As a kid, I remember my dad talking me to see this movie in theater in Calcutta(India) and saying it’s made by the great Sidney Poitier. That’s the first time I heard of Sidney Poitier ….5-7 years later saw the movie again in the theater in Calcutta again where I don’t live but visit my grandma every summer. Then one day sitting in my hotel/motel room in New Jersey flipping through the channels …saw this playing on one of them…
Watching this in November 2021 and still with an awesome, unequaled jazz moves of all times. I remember a great dance group at Holy Angel University, The Friends, dancing this in the 80s❤️❤️❤️
I was such a dork. In the early 90's I recorded this movie on a blank VHS and I'd practice these routines until I could perfectly dance with them. Lol! 💃
This film was instrumental in my becoming a dancer and later teaching dance.. I first saw this film as a child, and continued to watch it into my adulthood.. and all these years later, it's still my fave film for so many reasons ❤

This is great dance talent! Several of my friends had Cindy McGee (wearing a blue leotard and black tights in this clip) as a dance teacher in the Canoga Park, Calif. area. My friends really enjoyed her teachings. As far as I know, Cindy is still teaching and is as skilled as ever.
I love her ..her moves are perfect and I love that she smiles alot she seems like she very friendly and sweet. Love all the dancers thou. I believe she is someone who I would get along with. All their moves are perfect
My fave dance movie still never get sick of it ....great alarm too..I use to dance to this all the time specially as I cleaned as a child. Dancing and cleaning..I copied every dance step back then..Makes me remember how much I love dancing and this movie....best dance movie ever

This Modern Jazz music is our music in inter-branch competition during Company Christmas Party. As choreographer of the dance, I had a hard time teaching the steps to my co-employees because some steps had been gotten from the soundtrack movie. Lots of jumps and high kicks. We landed second place among all branches. Patience paid-off.
Next to "Rock around the clock", I personally feel, this Sidney Poitier production, is the 2nd best musical of all time. The kids in this are all fantastic. Just look at their bodies and you will know they are all professional dancers. In my hometown, where films don't play for more than a week, this film minted money at the box-office by playing for 18 long weeks. During its first run, circa 1982, I must have seen it over six times. Fortunately, I have a DVD at home and can watch this gem whenever the need kicks in.
Btw, does the DVD have the music video of this one? Cos I remember watching it on MTV with this scene except it had random movie scene shots plus rehearsals of the dancers

I have seen this 100 times and it still makes me smile. This type of jazz choreography is rarely seen anymore. It is very technical and kick ass.

Still love the movie and its songs just as much - 35 years later. Was looking for this on Netflix. Very underrated, indeed.
