Ma'am, I saw you as a guest on another channel (so sorry, can't remember who). I had been on day 10 with zero success. Then you told me to toss in some caraway seeds. I was ready to try any. You are a treasure!!! With hours I saw 3 bubbles. In 24 hours enough bubbles to give me hope. 48 hours....I have a lovely starter that smells proper and has lovely bubbles. Thank you. I will pass your tip on to everyone I have a sourdough conversation with. ❤❤
I'm really curious whether the original strains can be preserved in a new environment, along with new ones, or, if all the original strains will eventually be replaced with new ones?
Can you suggest how to get my start to bubble more? It’s very smooth but it doesn’t have any bubbles when I take it out of the fridge and take 24 hours to warm up and bubble a little. Therefore my bread is so dense and hard that it not good. Thanks for your help
I made the starter with buttermilk. I noticed today is day 5. There is mold around the top part of my starter, I’m so disappointed, so should I throw it out?start over?
If there's mold, I would recommend starting over again. I will never buy sourdough starter cos they look gross and will not trust it being bacteria free, how it been handled etc. Even to buy the kefir grains i was doubting but has no choice.
I made your sourdough starter with the active culture buttermilk and it didn't work! I wasted time, over a week to never get one bubble! Sorry, but going to a traditional method of the Tartine Bakery.
I used your directions for making a sourdough starter about a year ago and it's going GREAT!! Thank you kindly!
So glad to hear this! 😊 ~ Anja
So, long story short; Sourdough starter is very personal and so make your own!😇💪🏻✌🏻😎

That makes sense…just like how I’m probably nothing like my great, great grandmother.
Great analogy 😊
Thank you for the tips!
The information and instructions you share here are all very helpful and sensible!!
Thank you! I am glad to hear that 😊 ~ Anja
great thinking!
Do you have to use a special flower to make it?
I love using whole grain/rye to get it started but then organic AP flour 😊 ~ Anja

Different strains thrive under different conditions. Therefore, many if not most of the original strains will probably be replaced by new ones ~ Anja
So true!!!

You can put it in a warmer spot and/or use (whole grain) rye flour. Once you make your dough, let it ferment longer.
I got three weeks into my first sourdough starter and mold developed. Super bummed.
Oh no! There are various reasons - have you checked out my other sourdough videos?
Exactly!!

@@OurGabledHome thank you
I would find it hard to believe that a starter is that old. Who is tracking that? I'm skeptical.

How is it even possible to vet the age of the starter? I don't trust sellers making such a claim.
It‘s not but it depends on your source and how much you trust them 🤷♀️
