While it's pretty normal to have a small beer or a glass of wine (1, just 1!, ok!) on very special occasions (maybe 2-4 times a year) at the ages of 13-15, the real partying starts at something like 17/18 and lasts at least until the ages of 28-30+. The Leaders of the German-Military-Party wore "Ocker". The correct one is: “pale yellow”.
The lower Rank was dark-Ocker, which is a darker "Senf-Gelb" (Mustard Yellow). But we agree it can be described as "brown".
      The rest wore Black.
The Pencil was actually made as a "German Pencil". The other ones are Rainbow-Pencils.
But indeed will the black, red, yellow turn brown when you Kritzel-Kritzel on the paper.
The interesting thing is, the Communists wore the same Green as the USA.

As a helper in a voting location, I can say that there were many people who had trouble folding that giant thing back together again. For all the non-germans, we had 34 parties to choose from, and the paper ballot was about half a meter long.

16:40 you need to keep in mind that very commonly German Autobahn is only 2 lanes in each direction. Imagine your feeling in a car, you're allowed to drive as fast as you want, but in front of you, there's a semitruck going 50mph in the right lane, and on other one overtaking it at 50mph. Which can be resulting in the full highway being "blocked" for 1 or 2 minutes until their done overtaking. (Semitrucks have a general speed limit of roughly 50mph and that's enforced with built-in limiters AFAIK.)

The elections we had were the European (parliament) elections. In contrast "Bundestagswahl" would be German national (parliament) elections.
The ballot for the European election in Germany was huge, featuring 34 parties to choose from. You can find a picture of it e. g. on Wikipedia "2024 European Parliament election in Germany". The meme about folding it was eluding to how you were handed that huge/long ballot paper in a folded state, and it could be tricky to fold it up "correctly" the way it was after you're done making the vote. (It's certainly more relatable for people who had that thing in-hands themself.)

Trucks are limited to 90 kmh with a limiter in europe. But between trucks the limiter might have a small difference of 1 or 2 kmh in top speed.

I should have posted this a couple of videos ago. In the german reddits there are many "literal translations" like "Punkt der Sicht" which your translator just translates normally to "point of view", but we actually never use these in normal conversations.
The word "Explodierer" belongs in that category, but your translator doesn't translate it correctly, it should be translated as "boomer". We don't really have a german word for any generations, so we borrow your english labels, but as I stated, many german subreddits don't like using english borrowed words, and therefore, this happens.

Explanation for the "Autobahn" one: Trucks aren't allowed to drive faster than 80 Km/h, which is 49 Miles (around 50). A lot of Trucks are driving around 85, sometimes 89, even overtaking other Trucks which would be called "Elefantenrennen" (Elephant race). So Overtaking a Truck with aroun 100 could lead to internal rage by people who are driving 150, 160 or even 250 and need to break for that person 😀 And the same could be applied to the Truck. A lot of Highways/Autobahn are only two lanes. So everyone has to break from 120 to around 80 and waiting for the Truck to overtake and going to the right site 😀

    • @sebastianwittmeier1274
      @sebastianwittmeier1274 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The AfD (politically comparable with a conservative Republican wing) got 15.9% and was second strongest. The overall vote was quite split into a lot of parties.
Most times the European election has more left-leaning results, the general election is in overall balanced between left and conservative.
This time the European election was balanced, too. Which meant around +6% to +7% boost to the conservative parties in total.
The current Bundeskanzler is from the left-leaning SPD. So it also was a small protest sign by the voters, or a balance-of-power vote (vote in regional or European elections against the ruling party from the general elections.)
The commentators made a big deal about it.
The only special thing is that the times are over, when the political right had below 5% in Germany in total. It was always a specialty in Germany, but got more prominent after Merkel's and her party's move to the center and years of Grand Coalition governments.
Politically Germany had immigrants before, e.g. from Italy or from Turkey. And German's international role, e.g. how to deal with Russia was questioned before. The same for industry vs. environment. I personally do not believe that the topics and the leanings of the people have changed so much.
Only the times are over, when 2 or 3 parties (Volksparteien) represented the spectrum. And if you go back further in Germany's history, you find more parties again. So it was a special time, when there were few parties, not now, when there are more parties.

4:06 On Sunday June 9th there was an European Union election. We voted the representatives for the European Parliament. The two big winners were the leading opposition party CDU (Christian Democratic Union) who got 29 seats and the right wing party AfD (Alternative for Germany) got 15. A lot of the first and second time voters (aged 16 to 25) voted for them. So there's clearly a right wing tendency amongst the younger folks who suffered the most during the Covid lockdowns and are especially disapointed by the current government.
The Green party only got 12 seats. Aparently climate protection is seen a lesser priority since the start of the Ukraine war. People seem to focus more on national security.

-It's even better to voluntarily not drive faster than 130km/h

No idea on the minecraft thing
The spring board does not grant nearly as much lift as you expect
    19th:

I assumed Ubisoft has disappointed many times in the recent future, so the advice is to not pre-order their games and wait for reviews before buying.
23rd: Instead of "exploder", the author was probably going for "boomer" as a translation
24th: Sparkasse (lit. savings treasury) is a german bank
25th: It's a common bane on the autobahn that truckers, who are to drive in the right-most lane at 80km/h (truck speed limit) often overtake each other, blocking a second lane during a very lengthy overtaking process because of a very small speed difference. 3km/h is like half a persons walking speed.
26th: The meat in the bun is Leberkäse. It is a specialty of southern germany and consists of super finely minced pork, beef and bacon paste, formed into a loaf and than baked till it developes a crust. Bakeries often offer it and will cut off slices (like from a loaf of bread) and put into a bun (like a hotdog). The slice is about 1 inch thick or so and usually topped with mustard. It's a very simple, convinient and popular food to go for early in the morning before arriving at work or during lunchtime.
Basically the guy is so rich, he bought the entire loaf.

The "Alf"/Taiwan joke is very 1980ies.
In "these days" mainland China wasn't providing any(!) of the goods they produce today.
If you got a toy car - especially the cheaper ones - you would have a look at the base plate (cast iron) there would be an "inscription" "made in Taiwan".
    Or Hong Kong.
If not produced somewhere in Europe or the US.
Taiwan then was the "workshop for cheap goods" in the 70ies to the 90ies.
With absolutely no "mainland China" producers "in sight" - or even in existence.
In the beginning 1980ies Shenzen was a fishing village with a population of estimated 30.000 (no digits missing) - until it was made a "special economic zone". And rose to economic relevance in the late 1990ies to 2010er years.
And size / numbers of people and production sites.
Taiwan managed to upscale the value and complexity of stuff produced there to the tech, chips and else high tech they are selling now.
In a certain way - they had to.
With about 23.5 mio citizens in Taiwan - there was absolutely no way to produce goods at the same price and amount when mainland China with its population of over one billion then decided "we want to start production and export".
The hundreds of millions of migrant workers especially form the rural parts of the country were the biggest resource of cheap labour in the world.
But again - 80ies and 90ies - mainland China hat a very low number factories for consumer goods.
Almost none of them exporting outside the country.
As we all know - that changed dramatically over the last 30 years.
With mainland China facing the problem that the "factory workers" (and more qualified positions) had - and have - a keen focus on the education of their children - and there are millions of quite to very good educated young people.
All competing to a quite limited (for numbers and capacity) unis and job opportunities.
    In China.
And to my perception - "worldwide".
So many industries - of the US - who provided "decent payed jobs" in the 1950ies to 1970ies.
If your work depends mostly on your muscles - and manual skills - Taiwan is one early warning.
It doesn't matter that much who produces the goods - but if the demand is still there (and enough money).
    Business goes on.

For some more context on the election ("Wahl") topic. On 9th of June there was the european union election. We elect which parties we want to rule europe and unfortunatly, in germany, the most (but not the majority) of people elected AfD (far right/right extremists). And many elect the CDU (conservative right). And some of the memes refers to "Bundestagwahl", which is the major election in germany for the people who rule our country.
So most of the memes say basically "we cry if the EU election outcome was the outcome of 'Bundestagswahl'" because this would result in a far right/extremist right and a conservative right Leadership of germany.
We all have seen where this leads to around 100 years ago and most of us wont repeat it.

17:17 In Europe Trucks with more than 3,5t max weight are allowed to reach a max. speed of 80kmph... but 89kmph are tolerated. So European trucks are technically limited to this speed. If one truck overtake an other, the speed difference is not too high which means it takes some minutes...
In whole Europe this is ok, and usually the other drivers have the patience, but not in Germany... they honk and rage behind the truck😂😂😂😂

You need to be at least 10 km/h faster than the overtaken vehicle to not cause a traffic jam. If you overtake with less than + 10 km/h it looks like this and takes for ages. In germany we call that "Elefantenrennen". 17:15

  • @darthplagueis13
    @darthplagueis13 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Trucks are only allowed to do 80 km/h on the Autobahn and they are technically not allowed to overtake each other.
There's always some truck drivers who try to do it anyways, but because a fully loaded truck physically can't go that much faster, especially once they are out of the slipstream of the truck infront of then, they end up occupying the middle lane (where they aren't supposed to be) for way too long, slowing down and endangering other vehicles.
This is sometimes called an "Elefantenrennen" (elephant race) because having two oversized vehicles barreling down the highway next to each other is a bit like watching an elephant stampede.

      @darthplagueis13 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

As for the one about overtaking trucks at 100: In order to overtake a truck, you have to move over from the right lane to the middle lane, but people on the middle and left lane generally drive a lot faster than the trucks on the right lane, so if you overtake a truck at just 100 km/h, you're gonna be driving way slower than the people on the middle lane and force them to either break or pull over to the left lane.
Essentially, if you want to overtake anyone on the Autobahn, you need to make sure that there is space on the lane left of you and accelerate to match the speed of that lane in order to not get in peoples way.

overtaking Trucks at 100 on the highway is prime display of idiocy because trucks are BY LAW limited to 80 and most do drive 90, these numbers are speed in kph.
150 on the highway is slightly above the most efficient speed bracket for cars, that would be at around the 135 mark.

7:00 In minecraft you get a portal to another dimension called the Nether when you place obsidian bricks like this and light the center with flint and steel. Now some folks put fake gameplay videos online where they did the same with glowstone blocks and placing a block of water in the center to create a portal to a heavenly dimension - as an opposite to the Nether which represents hell. But this wasn't implemented in the game and of course didn't work. They were just trolling.

Personally I like it when someone is pronouncing "ä", "ö" and "ü" correctly.
"ä" is pronounced an english "a" (e.g. like in the word "and")
"ö" is pronounced like the "o" in the english word "word".
"ü" is pronounced like the "u" in the english word "lurk(ing)" (bad example, but couldn't find anything better)
Ö and Ü are very similar so another, so they don't make a difference.
Also when german words are ending on an e, you have to pronounce it (looking at 4:35); and it's pronounced like an "ä" (ä and e mostly sound the same in german)

Going to vote, and giving an invalid ballot brings something, too. Because an invalid vote is still a vote, and counts towards the total number of votes, which means the percentages of all parties are lowered. If every non-voter would have counted as an invalid vote, the percentages of all parties in Germany would have been lowered by almost half.

5:00 As far as I know, there was a small controversy around the big streamer Montana Black, who wrote a long comment in which he (in short) complained that it was OK to drive at 250 km/h in the left lane of the highway and nobody should slow him down when he drives into the left lane to overtake at "only" 130 km/h.
However, over 50% of Germans think that there should definitely be a speed limit, hence the new meme which says that it is OK up to about 160 km/h, it is smart to drive 130 km/h and it is very stupid to drive 150, 250 km/h or to overtake trucks with only 100.
