Great Video! Thank you very much. I've allready painted Stormtroopers, but wasn't happy with the details. White Primer, a very light grey wash and a final white drybrush. Looks nice and clean!
I am blown away at how AMAZING that White looks *with* notorious Contrast paints (The pooling bit is tricky). Will use this technique in the future! Cheers
If you think of all the individual aspects to a TH-cam channel. The person/character/identity on screen. The subject matter. The presentation. The production. If you think of a channel as an overall package, I'd argue that pound for pound, this is the best hobby related channel around!! 👍
Peachy was just as funny as Duncan and its cool too see him try new things, i really like the method here for clones as white is one of tricky colors but the way here is awesome.
Like just for straw through the back of the citadel pot to keep it open, never thought or heard of that but it's brilliant lol Love the channel and the shorts, keep it up team
Absolutely brilliant. I love it mate. You're really knocking it out of the park with the videos. I like that you leave mistakes and fixes in. They're important to accept and correct, rather than get grumpy with. We all make mistakes. I really need to pull my socks up and support and join the Discord. Thank you for another great video 🖖
Nice video - thanks for posting. I have never seen the plastic brush tip protector thingie being used to prop open paint pots before. Also, Peachy (a favourite presenter of my kids) looks really happy and relaxed in his presentation. Terrific stuff and good luck for the future.
Cheers Murray, that plastic brush sleeve is a little hack I picked up in my years at GW, and yeah I’m super happy working with the guys at The Painting Phase. Role on more future fun vids.
Great stuff. I'm really enjoying the channel. I'll have to try that white scar spray to try and make short work of some of those legion troopers. Seems like good project to avoid the stress of airbrush and myriad pots.
Only found this channel after your appearance on Sprues and Brews this weekend. So pleased to see you back on the small screen. Normal service has resumed.
I got back into the hobby a few years back painting Stormtroopers for Star Wars Imperial Assault so this is hitting home for me. I'd love to paint some SW Legion clones soon when my pile of "shame" will have decreased a little bit !
These clones imo are absolutely amazing to paint, I initially did some 41st elite corp (check out my Instagram) but I wanna do more clone legions now 👍 - peachy
A friend of mine put me onto the pro acryl paint a while back and I ended up buying most of the range after I used their white. It has gotta be about the best white paint out there and all their other colors I've used have been awesome too.
@@thepaintingphase I'd be especially interested to see what you think of their transparent paints if you can get hold of any of them and give them a go
That’s amazing! I’m going to have to try that for my next batch of clones. If you end up doing more from legion, paint some shoretroopers since they just appeared in Andor.
Ooh nice shout, tbh some of those early plastics are a bit soft, and looked awful in video. which is why we’ve been keeping it to the more sprue based hard plastics. But I’ll certainly give them a look as we have some in the studio…..and I have many ideas on how to paint them fast.
Never enough Star Wars content. So much so, next year I'll be bringing my own with the second of my Get Started series, this time focusing on Star Wars Legion. While I'll be using the Galactic Civil War set, this video has been helpful as it's given me ideas on how to tackle my Stormtroopers. Just need to figure out how to make my Rebels different to my other 4 squads (hint-hint, lol) Really loving these new videos and especially love the little bits you left in that maybe weren't planned, adds some humour to the information which helps, me at least, absorb it better. Top notch work, keep it up.
Cheers, initially we did a stormtrooper but those early plastics looked awful, especially with pats photography skills, but rebels are still on my radar 👍 - peachy
The company markings (or whatever) can actually be a little bit messy. To begin with, every normal clone had white armor but as they started to feel more connected with their own unit and as a way to express themselves and to build a sense of brotherhood they started decorating their armor a bit in the color the unit had chosen, something the jedi also encouraged them to do. That's also why i.e. the clone wars show it isn't uncommon for most clones to have their own way of painting their armor. It is worth keeping in mind that the clones were seen as nothing more than flesh droids by most people in the republic, this was one of the very few freedoms and way to express themselves they had. Just look at the different paint jobs on Monnk, Gree, Fox, Rex, and all the rest and we get a lot of freedom when it comes to painting and decorating clones, and an excuse for our imprecise brush strokes :)
@@thepaintingphase oh, thanks a lot, glad you and the boys enjoyed it :). I have a lot of various lore stored in my brain :p If you would want EVEN more freedom in design, look at Commander Wolffe and his Wolf Pack, the 104th Battalion. They adorned their armor with a sort of tribal style wolf head and sometimes tribal looking designs elsewhere. Even when they changed their decoration color from dark grey to red to fit into the Coruscant Guard regiment they still kept their wolf style. It looks really cool and unique :)
You mentioned in a previous video that you don't paint for display cabinets. You paint for table tops. I'm really trying to incorporate that philosophy into my painting, as I have way way too many models to paint and no desire to entire competitions!
Loving the Star Wars stuff! Just picked up the core set for the Rebellion (and Jedha!) So this should transfer nicely to Stormtroopers quite nicely! :3
Awesome! I had initially painted a stormtrooper, but the quality of the early plastics, which isn’t terrible at all, but add Pats amazing cameras and they looked a bit eww. So we did a clone instead, and I’m so pleased you can use this to your advantage - peachy
I prefer using layer paints, that certainly reduces the chalkiness, but adding a little water to your brush helps…..but that takes time and practice to properly perfect.
Thumbs up, great team! Though I am not into Star Wars Legion there is always something i can pick up for my own projects and get inspired. If i may propose something, I would like to see how you batchpaint some of the Oathmark boxes from the fantasy range (orcs or elves w). Great proxies for middle earth battles...
Yeah Soulblight helps with the definition more and is less subtle that apothecary, plus the new shade formulation means they often drain into the recesses, leaving very little blotches on the surface area, though I still like to thin mine a little just to be sure
Any white is fine to replace with the one we used, to he corax white we had turned into paste so Pro acryl it was! Apothecary white is a good substitute for soulblight, slightly different finish but a similar effect.
Is there any chance whatsoever of a tutorial for the 332nd troopers? They were Ahsoka Tano's dedicated clones and their helmets im finding rather tricky
Very nice! Legion has great miniatures, if you get the chance to paint some clan wren Mandolorians will you have tips about how to free hand markings? I'm sure it can be incorporated in other things clan wren just popped into my head because star wars lol Great Video Peachy :) really enjoying the videos simple techniques but easy to build apon with practice
Cheers, I’d defo be up for doing a whole bunch mando stuff and even different clans, just finished some Deathwatch based of the ones seen in Mandaloarian. So certainly on the cards - peachy
I have to watch this video every time I get brave enough to do white armour. This video deserves more love. ❤
This is easily becoming my favourite practical painting channel along with Warhipster ❤️
Well thank you kindly 😍👍😍
Oh wow that’s a collab I would love to see! Warhipster and peachy!
I was going to say exactly both of these comments!
04:20 "I'm not gonna do that because it's too much and I don't like it!" is probably one of the best painting quotes we have.
How have I been in this hobby for 25+ years and never once thought of holding the lid open with a brush protector?!
Peachy knows all. Hail Peachy!
Swear he's a wizard.
@@thepaintingphase "Thats so wizard!"

What a great guide to follow. I just opened my starter set, and this is a quick way to get the army painted . Cheers, guys .
You are most welcome 👍👍👍
Another really amusing and educational tutorial.
Fantastic video, love the opening battlefield
I'd love to see the republic commandos all painted up. These videos have all been a joy to watch.

Cheers! Yeah white is not easy, but that Soulblight grey is awesome 😘👌
Great tutorial, I really like how beginner friendly these videos are, and how much fun you guys are having behind the scenes making them.
Those are the two specific things we want to do, paint minis quickly and have fun!

Nice job, and what do you think of Pro Acryl’s Bold Titanium White? I’ve heard very good things.
I'm very impressed by it, it's quite thin but covers really well!
Any reason you used Soulblight Grey over apothecary white? Trying to decide what to get and both look so good!
Yeah Soulblight helps with the definition more and is less subtle that apothecary, plus the new shade formulation means they often drain into the recesses, leaving very little blotches on the surface area, though I still like to thin mine a little just to be sure
Hi this is going to be so usefull for my 501st legion Votann. Will apothecary white also be good as a replacement for soulblight? :)
