- LL COOL J Refuses To Put Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nas, DMX & Rihanna On His Def Jam Mt. Rushmore List
“ It’s LL, it’s Public Enemy, it’s the Beastie Boys... and it would have to be, it would have to be Slick Rick, because it’s Def Jam. What’s the criteria for it? Because what Public Enemy did in terms of building a label, what LL did in terms of building a label, and what about Rick and Russell?”

Agreed
Factual
LL is correct. Because he named the artist who were there when Def Jam was at it's peak. Now it's just another label but back then it was The Label.
Wasn't it also at peak in the 90s?
not quite. you can be partial or objective and he is being partial here. It is clear that Dmx should be number one on the Mount Rushmore because he is the most successful defjam artist as a pure defjam artist. next should be LL since he is the Pioneer, but lets face it 20 years from now people will still listen to the biggest dmx hits while they will not listen to LL since he is simply the foundation that layed the groundwork for the artform to advance more.
the other two on the list should be run dmc as a duo. and if you want to be technical and not allow duos just Run(not dmc)
and finally public enemy. simply because of the pioneer factor and strong influence they had on the culture and how it impacted what the label ultimately became. but if you had to take just one it would be Chuck D and not flavor flav. but it should be the duo.
jay z and Kanye and the others were with other labels and only getting distribution from defjam so they do not count. Back then, even they would tell you "Its the Roc!" so how could they be on the Mount Rushmore? makes no sense.
Dmx, LL cool J, Run Dmc, Public enemy = being objective =)

I remember me and my peoples seeing LL Cool J at The Tunnel nightclub in NYC back in 1989. The infamous Tunnel hip-hop nights on Sundays, did not begin until 1994. This was back when The Tunnel was known as a house music club, and on Friday's they had "Hip-House Night", playing both rap and house music.
Anyway, L was with a few of his peoples, and me and my crew yelled out: "Peace LL!!! You da man god!!! L walk through his peoples and greeted everyone in my crew. There was 6 of us, and he asked each one of for our names, and asked if we wanted an autograph. We said: "Nah, we good! We just wanted to show you some love!"
LL was riding high off the fame from the Walking Like A Panther album, and the "Jingling Baby" Marley Marl remix single. But he was mad gracious that night. In fact, a couple of hours later, we saw L in another section of the club, and LL dapped us up again, and remembered our names. I was going by my 5 Percenter attribute at the time, which was Jaheem, and LL yelled out: "Peace Jaheem!" I was grinning ear-to-ear like little kid, lol.
LL Cool J should be on everyone's top 10 Greatest Rappers of All-Time list! The brother is a straight legend, who is still doing it since 1984! Salute L!

Nope, I hope your know US History better than that. Only Washington & Jefferson were Founding Fathers.
Lincoln- kept the country together when another president might have just let the South separate. That is arguably every bit as important as founding father without actually being one.
Teddy Roosevelt- pales in comparsion, it ironic that he isn't even the most significant President Roosevelt. (If Rushmore was comissioned in 1957 instead of 1927 it is very likely Franklin that is the Roosevelt on Rushmore).
