Nicest celebrity I've ever met, in the early '90s he came to the Lowes Orpheum on 86st and 3rd Ave in NYC where I worked. Mr.Smith stopped in the lobby signing autographs for about a hundred people..smiles...hugged everyone...gave love to the staff too. This guy is amazing, for real.

Wow similar to my story I loss my little brother and he started me liking rap and big LL fan even looked like him a little . Even though he was my little brother I really admired him he was so cool.
Shannon be having the best interviews. The man is an interview genius. My first concert ever was watching LL cool J and the Ghetto Boys at Madison Square Garden back in the 80s and I was amazed at LL's energy level. LL ripped that concert apart. He was all over the stage killing it. LL is definitely one of the GOATs and maybe the top GOAT at that. The GOAT deserves all his accolades.
Shannon is a master of intros.but this LL intro will go down as the most epic, fitting the legend of who LL is..... LL the greatest that ever lived❤❤❤❤
Shout out to LL Cool J for keep the Mount Rushmore real and giving props to the original story teller Slick Rick ❤. He was the best and one of the first to me to ever do it. 💯
One of the best Club Shay Shays yet!!!! LL has inspired me since my youth… still a great model of longevity, humility, and success. Love to see LL be an EGOT. I could totally picture him as a teacher turned serial killer of bullies. Set him up for the Oscar then head to broadway.
Mr. Smith(Cool J)is DEF JAM in human form. Pure uncut Hip-Hop. He has took the Genre from music to a lifestyle to television to film to the boardroom and back. This is what an ICON living is. Period. The work over his extensive career has defined the term(ICON/GOAT)🫡
LL def writes his own verse, I’ve worked with him as a song writer singing and writing the hook. He even helped with my part. He wrote his own stuff and he’s one of the nicest artists I’ve ever met. So warm And friendly
I grew up with LL Cool J being one of my favorite rappers. Listening to him to speak is so refreshing. Made me pre-download the album and listen to the songs mid interview. I can't wait for it to drop.
This. I met him the weekend of my graduation from Hampton U in 2000. The hotel had one e of those fancier line dinners like a buffet, at the hotel over the bridge from campus (cant remember it's name). Anyway, I come into the restaurant and my mother is at the filet mignon cutting station, TALKING WITH LL, asking him aren't you the Oden kid? She thought he was a boy from our neighborhood back in Indiana. I was mortified! He was soooo nice. And he was helping my mom make her plate, walked her and talked with her back to her table. 😂❤ it was cute. Long live LL. My moms buffet bestie 😅
I am super impressed with LL. This man can speak articulate. He is comfortable in his skin and confident that he can do anything. He put his mind to it. He can’t be shaken by Shannon. It is refreshing that a man cannot worry about if someone’s talking about him in a good or positive light. Uncle LL is so confident. I’m going to go to one of his tours!! Let’s Go!
LL is a real dude, when he said he connects with people hits true; he met an acquaintances father at a restaurant, took pictures with him, and bought Super Bowl boxes he was running. He’s a cool dude.
I laughed til I cried when I heard, "Mama Said Knock You Out," because my mother and Great-grandmother drilled that in our heads as kids. Old School advice for sure. Love you and Shannon; GREAT INTERVIEW.❤
We danced with L. It was 1986 at Cheyne University. He was there with the Kangol hat and a white sweat suit. Fine and humble he asked to dance with Poochie. She was shy. We was like gurl that's LL. So they danced and we danced with other dudes right next to them. Back then people didn't trip when rappers popped up on the scene. He wasn't performing just hanging out with people his own age. Chilling. The 80s was lit and the 90s after that are iconic.
I had the pleasure of meeting LL Cool J in person in 1987 when him and MC Hammer were signing autographs at the Troop Club in Oakland, California. I asked to take a pic with him and I was smiling ear-to-ear with a mouth full of metal braces (Invisaligns weren't out yet)😂😂😂😂😂. He was grinning too and had such a shyness about him that read, “I can’t believe how giddy this girl is over me,” which was so humble and sweet. I'm thinking, "Are you kudding??!! You are FOINE!!" We took pics together, me 18 and him 19, two teenagers. Before that, when I visited NYC a few months before, I went to Farmer’s Blvd. and Ilion Ave in St Albans Queens and asked the kids in the hood where he lived. Rappers love to shout out their hoods so it was easy to find out where he lived, and kids tell everything. So I walked alllll the way down Ilion from the corner of Farmers Blvd in some heels to meet him. I found the house, knocked on the door, but no one answered. A dude rode up on his bike and asked, “You looking for Todd (LL’s middle name)?” I said, “Yep.” He said, “He’s on tour.” I was so disappointed and my feet hurt😂😂😂. I had taken the subway to Queens from Times Square in Manhattan where I was staying, but didn’t know how to navigate buses once I got off the subway, so I was on foot. Anyway, though LL wasn’t home, I had prepared a letter for him in advance just in case. I put that letter under his door and walked my azz back down Ilion to Farmers Blvd and headed back to subway station. About a year later, he was doing an interview in my hometown in Oakland and mentioned my letter!! I knew it was mines because he discussed what was in it. In short, I lovvvved me some LL!!! I saw him in concert EVERY time he came to Oakland, with the first time being at the Fresh Fest in 1985. I wore LL Cool J buttons (buttons were a thing in the 80s. Don’t judge me😂😂😂), got his name put on my high school journalist club tshirt (that I still have to this day), and recorded every performance on my VCR when he was on TV. In my mind that was my man, so imagine my devastation when he started dating Simone😂😂😂😂 Those were such great memories… I was already a hip hop/break dancing fanatic in the 80s, and when LL came through he was the cherry on top! James Todd Smith aka LL Cool J - THE G.O.A.T🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🎤🎤🎤
😂😂😂I am tickled about you in those heels on your way to confess your love. At least you have a memory thats with you forever and I know you were just too mad when he got with Simone😂

LL is like the Tom Cruise of HipHop. He’s undeniably hiphop’s rapper of rappers. He kept his lyrics in raw hiphop form and still got airplay and respect when Nwa, Nas, WuTang was getting rotation. He stayed LL and still was dope and going platinum.

Right and he created/coined the phrase in one of diss rap. So dope!
Thanks, Unk, for another legend in the building. LL Cool J. 40 + yrs of greatness. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
LL is so overlooked in the Rap game and idk how. I’m 27 and i bump his stuff still every now and then. My parents taught me all the right things in music
Lol bro wasn't nobody tryna listen to no ll but old sugar daddies and ol ladies born in the 80s or before. Be cool n all don't get if effed up, but ain't nobody listening to three straight L L songs these days.
Good for you
@@ronoceanii3576You can basically no skip the Goat album. Or Phenomenon, bad, mama said .. Exit 13. There's plenty of songs to string 3 songs
@@ronoceanii3576 what are u talking about?
He kind of put himself in the box making all the chick songs. He didn't start out that way with his first couple of albums.
He made the term 'GOAT' popular within hip hop culture.
LL - Living Legend ❤
Living Legend Cool James❤
He coined the term . Do the research
Naww LL means ladies love❤
@Mahitallendtday1can't buy common sense...he ain't say he was the first to say greatest of all time..he said he was the first to say the acronym "Goat" show us all the clips of Ali using GOAT acronym
@Mahitallendtday1 Ali's wife did not call Ali the G.O.A,T. She said he was the greatest of all time. LL Broke it down. You never heard GOAT until LL. said it.
LL had some great quips in his raps. "I'm the kinda guy that leaves my drawers in your hamper." Classic.
Facts
When Cool J went "We can go band for band" I lost it. People don't know how funny this guy is. You could tell it went completely over Shay's head too. lol!!
That cracked me up too funny he is 😂
Haha that one and "BBL Drizzy" went over shay's head
Nicest celebrity I've ever met, in the early '90s he came to the Lowes Orpheum on 86st and 3rd Ave in NYC where I worked. Mr.Smith stopped in the lobby signing autographs for about a hundred people..smiles...hugged everyone...gave love to the staff too. This guy is amazing, for real.
His last name is Smith (James Todd Smith)
I heard Heavy D was like that. RIP Big Hev!!
@@csmith2484my weird habit of calling people by their 1st name and saying Sir after. Thanks corrected. Still one of the best celebrities I've ever met. Shaq is fukn amazing too.
He is 56 he looks amazing😳
They both look awesome for their ages 🙏🏻
@@Sandra_BeckfordYou look awesome, we should go on a Starbucks date.
❤❤❤
I enjoyed every moment of this conversation. They truly had a good time. LL's career is unmatched.
Their energy together is amazing. They could literally be best friends 😂😂😂
At 56 LL is more healthier, much muscular than most younger guys in their 20s & 30s.Continue to look after yourself LL, proving that age ain't nothing but just a number.❤❤❤
I wouldn't say most
LL is one of the guys who inspired me to start hitting the gym back in the day. I've never looked back since. It's crazy that he is in his fifties and still a Unit. Indeed looks better than most of today's youngsters who only flex their fingers when pressing buttons on a keypad to pour their scorn and bile😂😂😂
🔥🔥🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
He fine
As the old saying goes....
"It Gets Greater Later"
No bout a doubt it my friend's. Lenny Kravitz @60 is another dude who still keeps in top shape like LL. Just saying... ✌️😉
This episode made me smile in the memory of my oldest brother rest his soul. He was the one that made me an L.L. fan when "Radio" first came out. He had the exact same boom box that was on that album cover. He used to dance on his skates with that radio on his shoulders. Maaaan!!! This was an absolute great interview! 💪🏾🤘🏾💥🔥
Wow similar to my story I loss my little brother and he started me liking rap and big LL fan even looked like him a little . Even though he was my little brother I really admired him he was so cool.
I fired up my drum machine 💯💯no lies told hip hop since 79 💪🏾💪🏾
Thank you Shannon for talking with one of my favorite rappers. LL Cool J fan for life
🔥🔥🔥
This is the best interview so far, LL & Shay great conversation, great chemistry.
Agreed❤
Agreed❤
Sway & Shannon have the best guest introduction for their shows
I love it give them their full flowers.
Shannon is a master of intros.but this LL intro will go down as the most epic, fitting the legend of who LL is..... LL the greatest that ever lived❤❤❤❤
This was a fantastic interview. Pure wisdom developed through experience.
“Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years”🎤1 of my fave interviews, thanks Unc!!!!🎉🫶🏾
Shout out to LL Cool J for keep the Mount Rushmore real and giving props to the original story teller Slick Rick ❤. He was the best and one of the first to me to ever do it. 💯
I always loved Slick Rick. ❤
Who remembers "in the house"?
Yes I remember him playing Marion. Good show
I’m watching it on streaming right now.
I do with Debbie Allen. Fun show.
Still watch it now.
I loved that show!
His Mt. Rushmore was accurate too. Those guys built Def Jam from the beginning and made it what it is today
This is honestly one of the best interviews Shannon has done. This makes me love LL more. I love his mind on life.
LL def writes his own verse, I’ve worked with him as a song writer singing and writing the hook. He even helped with my part. He wrote his own stuff and he’s one of the nicest artists I’ve ever met. So warm
And friendly
I grew up with LL Cool J being one of my favorite rappers. Listening to him to speak is so refreshing. Made me pre-download the album and listen to the songs mid interview. I can't wait for it to drop.
I met L.L. Cool J in person when I was 15. Cool af. Signed his book for me. “ I make my own rules”
From I Need A Beat (1984) to Passion (2024) Cool J has 40yrs in the game! Wow!
Let’s Go!
And Shay was trying to rattle or fuel something but didn't work
Very inspiring... Great conversation, thank you LL. Shay looks for some shock and awe at times, when it's not necessary but LL handled it well.
LL is a real dude, when he said he connects with people hits true; he met an acquaintances father at a restaurant, took pictures with him, and bought Super Bowl boxes he was running. He’s a cool dude.
"When I'm alone in my room sometimes I stare at the walls....I need love' first 'rap' ballad. Golden. Ladies do love Cool J....❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
My favorite LL Jam❤❤❤
Ballad.😂

I laughed til I cried when I heard, "Mama Said Knock You Out," because my mother and Great-grandmother drilled that in our heads as kids. Old School advice for sure. Love you and Shannon; GREAT INTERVIEW.❤
LL has always been overlooked for years but no other rapper has stayed in the game as long as Cool James. His longevity is legendary.
That validation question got LL motivating the next generation. Powerful Words!!!
Sounding like Coach Prime on that couch…Don’t let my confidence offend your insecurities 😂
I got that validation 2 for 5😂
It's a blessing when a legend lives long enough to interview another legend. Never take it for granted❤💯
This is such a special story! I love the determination you had as a teenager. Girl, you was gonna get your man!!😂 I’m sorry it didn’t work out but hope life has been good to you anyway. Thank you so much for sharing your story and your memories.❤
Love your story and thank you so much for sharing this with us. Most of all, I'm glad that you had up close and personal moments with the one and only LL Cool J ‼️💞

Dope story sis!
“Don’t ask me for nothing not attached to a dream!” Wow!! Loved this exchange so much! L is very self aware, articulate, and such an inspiration. He is the G.O.A.T for real!!
"I don't see lack. I see abundance." 🎉❤💎
Yessssss LL!!!!!
GROWN MEN TALKING AND SHARING WISDOM 💯💪🏽
LL is truly one of the GOATs, not just his music, but as an inspiration 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
This interview was sooooooo Fun! I love it!
LL is a whole VIBE & their chemistry is dope! This episode is ICONIC…the positive version of Katt’s interview.
I loooove this interview!!! LL is so right about not having to lose anything to want to be better. I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant for 35 years. I love learning new things and I love working in various areas of heathcare and being able to deliver on the job. I love it LL Cool J. Hunni you making me want to drink more water and I don't even like water.😂😂😂
That introduction from Shannon reminds you how much impact LL made. GOAT
Uncle Shay has done it again. From start to finish another entertaining, engaging and informative interview. So many gems were dropped in this episode!!! 3 Years in the making was well worth the wait. With all eyes on Club Shay Shay, we get our 2 fav uncles both at the top of their games having that drink and conversation many of us needed to hear! Great Interview and definitely looking forward to the new album from LL. Salute!

Thank you Shannon for this... you're doing God's work here. And all us women say PTL!!!
I remember when I was in the movie theater watching the movie “Krush Groove.” LL came in with his Dj and a boom box. Tore the scene up. “I can’t live without my radio.” He was a game changer. Not into the craziness of the business. HE coined the term G.O.A.T. He is a living legend and pioneer that made REAL hip hop what it is!!!!
They are both 56, in great shape with beautiful skin.
I love this!!!!🔥✨🔥✨
Well I have great skin too...except for the....aww nvr mind
The man who invented the term “THE GOAT”💯💯💯💯💯
Fun fact: He would hear a boxer say I'm the greatest of all time and that's when he came with the acronym..
So what does that mean? What LL was the GOAT for like 1 summer? His BAd album? After that, LL was just mediocre
He is the first rapper to coin the term GOAT and he has an undeniable legacy unlike a lot of these rappers that claim to be a GOAT and some of them just came out.
