great tutorial, do goes with a natural save process like Legend of Zelda for example do those saves work natively when using ROMS on retro pie or do you have to use save states even for games like that?
What do you do when you get a black hour glass in the retroarch spinning spinning and spinning and not saving anything but instead Corrupting your save data? Why does this happen? How do you fix it? And where do I go to purchase a product that can actually save 12bit roms? I know it seems to hard for a machine to do, but I would be interested in a retroarch that can function properly.
+Core Electronics I already got that done.. What I'm saying is the controller itself does not have a L/R button.. I can hold the select and toggle the save slots, but without shoulder buttons there is no way to save/load your game using a nes controller.. I can use a SNES controller, or the keyboard but was just wondering if there is a way to save using a different combo of buttons.. By holding select and hitting B will reset the game, hitting select and A does nothing.. Is there a way to re-map this?
Hey chap448, if you are using a joypad that doesn't have the left and right bumper buttons available, you will have to remap the hotkeys for your particular controller. You can do that by editing the controller configuration via the Terminal or by SSH. The location of the files you are looking for are /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg for the global controller settings.
Hey, to save/load games using a keyboard you would be using the same hotkeys (START + L etc), the only difference is that it depends on what you have mapped your keyboard buttons to when configuring the keyboard as a controller.
Thank you! Haven’t pulled out the old RP for a bit and needed to jog my memory!!!
Really useful, thanks! New to RetroPie, I didn't realize it had this much functionality!

Thanks! I would recommend you use save states in general, they are bullet proof and super handy for insta-reloads.
What if you’re using a controller without triggers (or bumpers), like a NES controller?
have you ever solved this ?
save states are nice, but i'd like to get the in game save feature working on the SNES. Nothing seems to work though.
Same
How do I select hot keys or select save features
Nice, thanks. It doesn't look like working with Mame ?

NIce, does the save state works for every system?
Nicely explained, thank you for the tutorial.
It's 2019, I'm using lr- emulators and a wireless Xbox360 controller. Select+right shoulder does not work. Help?

THANK YOU!!!!!!!
can you get Retro Pie On the Ultimate Portable l Game. Player ???
So I can't I save game, play another game, unplug re plug and can't go to original game?
What if you are only using a nes controller that does not have L/R buttons?
Hey, you could just skip those buttons during the mapping process. Press and hold any button for a few seconds to skip the option
