I play golf, but not with a pipe in mouth. I heard that he liked the longer pipe so as to avoid dropping ashes on his clothes while driving his cart. I too agree with your assessment of the shank to stem transition. Great review. BTW, I do like my Sav Bings Favorite.

This looks fantastic. Just bought Savinelli's Bing's favorite version and though I've only smoked it twice it's easily becoming my fav

The cardboard box is original as to how they originally came a long time ago. So that's historically accurate.

I love this pipe , Great video Brother. I wanted a Bing pipe and could not get a Merchant service pipe . So what I did was contact Basil Meadows who was a pipe maker to make me a Bing pipe . He had all the dement-ions to make the pipe Exactly just like Bing smoked . He was such a nice man and very knowledgeable. He had just turned 70 and could no longer make a pipe , so he recommended me to a great friend of his . A man by the name of Jim Brown and he was a pipe maker and went by Heisenberg pipes on line . Him and Basil was good friends and Jim had a Bing Pipe that Basil had made him , so he could make me a exact pipe from his pipe . He was such a nice man to work with and I was in Awe because the pipe turned out Amazing and beautiful! I will enclose a picture Bradley thank you for everything you do , your Awesome. I have been a subscriber for a long time . The Bing pipe is Amazing and I have one now !

I totally agree with you on the lines of it Bradley, the stem and band slightly too large diameter to keep the clean lines? IMO of course, I have all bent pipes and decided to look at something similar to a Bing but on my searches I found a Dunhill “Inner Tube” straight pipe from 1925, it’s a small pipe but beautiful, you have to sip at it as it’s thin walled but makes smoking straight Virginias more enjoyable, have sent you some pics on your Twitter page, hope you enjoy smoking it even more once your man cold has gone! 👍💨💨💨 Terry

Every pipe on the Merchant Service site is listed as "out of stock" now. With the option to "join the waiting list." Just not sure they are still making those or not. I've just ordered a few Bing style pipes: Bing's Favorites (both smooth and a rusty) and a couple of Canadian's (I believe he smoked before transitioning to that style you have there). If Merchant Service posted more of those, I would hope to know so, so I could grab one before they disappear again.

That stem does look a little fragile. I could foresee it snapping while being disassembled for cleaning then reassembled after. It would probably depend on the tightness of fit for that joint. I prefer my pipes to be a little more substantial. This one could require a bit too much care to be an everyday smoker for its price.

Very nice classic pipe, yep transition is what it is but the band is indispensable, sandblasted pencil shanks are very prone to hairline cracks, just snapped the shank on my estate Dunhill shell briar,,Greets,Paul

To me it's more a canadian shape than a bing shape.
Not a fan of metal bands, and the transition shank/band/stem is not smooth. I had a pipe with a peculiarity of this kind but I had to sell it, because on a daily basis the peculiarity got stuck in my mind making me feel unconsciously that the pipe was defective. Since then I'm very cautious when I buy a pipe, it has to be good looking from day one.

Awful thin stem. I prefer the Savinelli Bing’s favourite (with straightened stem) or the Dunhill 3110. Or even the Savinelli petite (a little too petite in this case) for that classic Bing shape. The Merchant Service just looks out of proportion for me with that thin stem and large bowl. God, some pipe smokers (yes me) are fussy bastards.

  • @Der_Kleine_Mann

The bowl is too big and the shank is a bit too small in diameter that ruins the overall look in my opinion. Not elegant enough for me to buy it.
