Always loved the seawind 1260. Best value out there. Price should have been a weighted category. Isn’t cost always the final limitation.

Sounds like we have a winner in the Ruby Rose sweepstakes? You gushed at the Seawind 1600 from the beginning and I guess the voting audience agreed, although in my heart the XQUISITE X5 is my yacht of my future. As an aircraft mechanic I see the similarities in the quality build, thoughtful placements of the things you need access to and the redundancies of the systems to prevent you from being disabled. Well done Terysa and Nick. Great job on the entire series. Doug in Vancouver Canada

Agreed, the way I see it, if something goes wrong half way around the world, how easy is to get parts, how is the reliability etc. After all people buy Range Rovers because of whatever, but they break down non stop.
I think there is a reason most prefer the Leopards and Outremer.

It is the absolutely worst of the lot, and they, as a matter of fact, even LIE to further the boats, that they like over the ones, that they dislike. Take Neel as an example: They claim, that Neel is building to subpar standards and are literally unsafe, because they have no crash bulkheads! In fact Neel is absolutely class leading, the smaller Neel trimarans all have 5 or 6 crash bulkheads and the Neel 65 got 8! They are virtually unsinkable. Mind you, all multihul in extreme conditions can capsize. I have seen several owners reviews of these trimarans and also an entire Atlantic crossing, and the interior design by Neel may not be to everyone's taste, I actually like their airy and bright design language though, but it for sure not subpar! Nothing squeaks at all, even sailing in open Atlantic ocean in rough seas! Consider Nautistyles instead, which are more professional and less personal opiniated than this channel. Anyway, all choices of boats comes with certain compromises. I actually like their choice of catamaran, but it in truth cost the same as a brand new Neel 52 trimaran or the Windelo 54 catamaran, both offering massive more space and the latter also coming with an advanced electric suit installed from factory.

  • @tlevans62

The Seawind 1260 is probably the best Cat in my view, simply because of the features vs price. The 1600 is incredible, but you're going to pay for it, and a lot more than the 1260. Those big swing up doors make a huge difference to the livability of the boat, and in the tropics, those huge windows will make a world of difference.

Your work is so very much appreciated by us newly committed cruising liveaboard advocates who are trying to navigate the tricky waters of choice. I am absolutely using your reviews as a baseline in my decision-making. What is curious, however, is that, with the exception of the Leopard 45, Seawind 1260 (and perhaps a few others), the reviews are done in the comfort of a dock at a boat show. Performance is assumed by polar charts, which I understand to be rather theoretical. Are there any resources that you can recommend which are based on real liveaboard cruiser feedback, and cover such things as ease of sailing, slapping, ventilation in hot humid conditions, etc...? I'm scouring the web for resources and can't seem to find much. THANK YOU!

After watching the couples channel that has the Leopard. I am sold on the front cockpit design. Since 90% of time is spent on the hook, it looks like the optimum place to catch a breeze during cocktail hour. Watching him sail from there with the iPad for control is an inspiring experience. All nice boats though !

The methodology of getting the audience involved with interactive voting was revolutionary for sailing channels. The ranking tool is also real effective in visually laying out the results keeping track on where a boat stands. Good to see two cats at 1/2 million $ make the top 10 & top 5 in a competition where some of the competitors were close to $2m. Surprises for me: The Antares didn't rank as high as I thought it would. Well done Ruby Rose. Now I'm going to go back and re-watch some of those episodes again!!

Me too! I don't think any other company has the tremendous appeal of their constant follow up on maintenance to ensure a solid resale value. Add their willingness to be the central source of contact when dealing with all the mechanics that could need attention so you don't have to be tracking down companies and hassling with warranty coverages. It's just good business sense in my opinion. Then the fact that you can get so much customization and it is stunningly beautiful!

Hi from Cape Town, loved the review but was amazed to see 5 out of the top 10 are South African and 3 of them top 5. All nineteen boats you reviewed are great and as I "Binged" I took a few notes regarding space waste as I call it. I am preparing to blow away some money on a semi complete 34ft monohull and the design wastes massive amounts of space. Redesign in my future!! Thank you for all the videos, you do inspire the wanderer in me.

Really amazing how reviewing 19 catamaran boats you were holding all our attention even us non boaters. That's pretty good guys. It show's you have a really good following that not only enjoy your adventures but value your opinion . And you find a way to involve everyone in this process. I picked the Seawind 1260 in all this. To me the best bang for the buck, but I'm no yacht'y so what would I know. Take care guys, hope your weather has gotten better.

Super awesome work you two. We are very blessed that you have done this. Totally awesome to take that much of your time and put it together for something so important. Now we can only hope that the boat manufacturers will take notice and make changes in their designs. The bottom line here is, we will see what the manufactures do in the next three years. I’m more than sure they’re going to take note. Awesome work guys.

This poll has it uses and value, so huge thanks for putting this together! The individual walk-through videos and your during- and after-analyses are more helpful. Looking forward to hearing the big news about RR2, as well as all the upcoming coastal sailing videos. Hope to see you in Annapolis in October, if not before!

Some very interesting results there.. great work Ruby Rose, i get the feeling this list may shock some designers/builders, but it was non biased! As voted on by the Consumers/ public, a great example of builders actually listening to what their customers want, Opposed from telling them they think they want..
    great work guys!

Hi Guys, Ye did a Super job on the review series, a real go to for anyone thinking of investing in a Catamaran and no big surprise at the out come, you got the top 5 in exactly the right order I think. I'm going to guess now at your choice and after a couple of mentions in the top 5 my money is on Seawind. I hope they give you a great deal, you deserve it !!

Good work putting this together. Appreciate the effort put in.
If you do this again, wondering if it would make sense to categorize based on voters' interests, e.g., the comfort cruising crowd vs the value for money crowd vs the speed crowd. Some categories like build quality and safety should be common but, for me, as an example, I'll give up 3-5 knots of top speed to save a million dollars. Others would take a cramped berth to race across an ocean 3-5 days faster.

All very interesting, if you can afford a brand new boat, which most people can't. Useful to see which manufacturers are highly rated though when looking at older vessels.
