The oppression of slavery made skin color an ongoing issue for our community! The goal was to make it last forever. Think about it would you want someone you harmed to ever have the upper hand on you! It’s why we have to fight to this day for equality even in our own culture the onset of colorism was started during slavery! Study the history it will all make sense!
