Thanks for the upload. You're right about Yamaha's way of being convoluted when it comes to navigating the menu. I would also like to see some quicker workflow in an update. Cheers from Australia.
You perfectly hit the point. Did you tell this to Yamaha on their inovation ideas website? The arpeggiator was a big asset with the Motif. When Montage and MODX came out, they didn‘t mention it at all. I had to ask many people if this is still there. Thankful, it is. I think they concentrated on Genos and others for the arranger keyboard features. One problem, especially with the MODX, is the very limited user memory. One good piano soundfont eats up 1/2 of it. And the loops also need memory space. So, I wish also a better and smarter USB integration. The Genos has it, why not Montage and MODX?
Search google for apps that can detect the BPM of waves or mp3s This apps will be OS dependent Windows, Mac or iOS. Also some DWA will detect the BPM as you insert the file on the project.
Hello and thanks for the kind words. In the video I’m using finger bass. Or it might be call fingered bass. I also like the upright and if you can get the MOXF sounds there is a bass called reggae bass that is a nice one.
Is it possible to record an audio wave file using init then awm2 then do a record like you did with the drums sample. So that while playing piano i can press play button and let it run on its own? Thanks!
Hey There. Been watching your videos for a while. TY. Question: i made 3 different scenes. They all loop. But, now i need to change Scene 2 to NO LOOPING. I can figure out how to do it Also I dont want REAL TIME When i change the scenes, Any ideas? Or if uou made a video let me know. Blessigs! From San Francisco, CA
Great! was looking for something like this... :) I have a question though - I want to use stem tracks of the whole song or a few instrument audio tracks that are produced on Logic pro to be played back as rhythm variations A B C D and Fills/endings, etc.. (like audio styles present on the SX900 and others) Is that possible on the MODX6? I use ableton for it at the moment (gets tedious). Need to know if this board could do it so that we can use it at church instead of having to use a laptop and other gear. Thanks again for this video
I’ve never tried that however, to play stems you could use cubasis on an iPad or if you are triggering loops your best bet would be to use an app called Launchpad. It runs on iPhone ore iPad and you can import your own loops. I use it for drum loops when I play live solo. Any loop you want. It comes with preprogrammed loops of a lot of instruments but the power of it is that you can import your own. So you could create your A B C D sections and set them up in launchpad. The app is also free. The import feature will cost like $5 and it will run on iPhone or iPad. I use it on my old iPhone 5 and for me it works great. I hope this helps. apps.apple.com/us/app/launchpad-dj-with-novation/id584362474
Yes you can, you have to use the arpeggiator and then assign those loops to to the screen triggers. There are hundreds of loops already made. I’ll do a video about it however, I personally find it a bit tedious, confusing and a bit mechanic sounding (depending of the type of music your recording) I prefer to make the loop using a Daw or something else and I run my drumloops separate through the MODX but outside the MODX. I make my drumloops in Logic using different software like Stylus RMX, Easy drummer etc. I then download my drumloops samples to an iPhone app called launchpad. I connect the iPhone to the input of the MODX. I find that this way the loops sound more organic, you can draw for a bigger palate than the MODX offers (drum wise) and you can have your drumloops on any other keyboard that you might use.
@@edwardgarrido6628 So then if it’s a wave file you cant adjust the tempo. I want to be able to make simple four to the floor drum beats And be able to adjust the tempo. This seems very tedious
@@vinnykeys8146 if you use the MODX you will have to save each drumloop together with the patch I believe you can have 5 variations of the loop per patch. However that is a tedious procaces (at least to me) if you use the app launchpad even though they are wavefiles you will be able to change the tempo. It’s easy. I will try an make a video about it in the next week or so.
Would it be possible to set up the loop to play when you press a key and then stop playing when you press the key again? Or a separate key to turn it off? I was thinking this would be really cool to have several loops ready to play and when you want to switch loops it’d just be a matter of pressing the new key with the current one that’s playing to transition
It’s a beat complicated to set it up every time. Specially if you wanna have a lot of different songs with different BPMs what I did was: I grabbed an old iPhone and I talked an app. Allen’s Launchpad (it’s free) I. It you can import whatever loops and it behaves as you want, you can turn the loop on and off as you please and it has a lot more features. I connect the iPhone to the input on the MODX and than I have whatever loop I want with a minimum of fuzz
..i did exactly what you did but on my modx the decay wont loop the sample...i have the latest firmware...dont know whats wrong.. please tell me what firmware you have on modx..i dont have a loop option..
The firm aware I have is 2.0 I never updated to 2.5 as I’m not going to ever use the morph function. However, I’m not sure what do you mean by “I don’t have a loop function” basically you have to sequence a note to trigger the sample of your loop. And when you want to use it you have to play that sequence by pressing the play button. Send me a video of what you are doing so I can visualize what you are doing.
@@dineshmusician3393 if you are using a .wav loop you cannot increase or decrease the volume as the MODX does not have a way to stretch the audio. The tempo is set on the loop. However, you could save the loop at different tempos and save them on different performances.

Excellent explanation - thanks! Can anyone explain the linking mentioned at 9:53? The rest was clear, but I'm not really getting that part.
Basically the pattern and the performance must be linked or else it will not line up.
Is it possible to record an audio wave file using init then awm2 then do a record like you did with the drums sample. So that while playing piano i can press play button and let it run on its own? Thanks!
I don’t understand the question.
Do you have to load everything every time you turn on the piano or is it automatically loaded as ready to play?
You have to make the performance how you want it and save it (store it) and every time you call it up it will be there.
Very helpful video!
fantastic thank you!
