  • I recently upgraded my 'Nursing Home Tank' and I thought it was a good opportunity to share in my experience, how to set up a Mystery Snail Tank!
    .
    .
    .
    just a note:
    The standard rules of how many Mystery Snails can be kept in a tank, in my opinion, can be bent, not broken, but BENT with adequate filtration and a weekly maintenance schedule that includes very good gravel vacuuming.
    SNAILS POOP A LOT! Be prepared for it!
    .
    .
    Thank you all so much for taking the time to watch this video and I hope it may have helped someone set up a lovely home for their Mystery Snails!

    I miss you lava. You're a fountain of snail wisdom. Please come back. Every time I set up a new tank (on #9 today) I come back to this video for a refresher to make sure I'm doing it correctly. Hope you're doing well. I started breeding purple and magenta bc how beautiful yours are.

    Omg I love your attitude towards snails, you really love them !! I do too and it’s really nice to see someone else who shares that love. I’m glad that I found your channel and I look forward to your future content. I’m new to the hobby and look forward to growing with you as well. Nice to meet you.

    Love this tank so much, and that you used a tall one. Ever since my first Walstad tank, I will only put snails of any species in tall tanks. I think they are so much happier in tanks with a lot of height to grow more algae for them to slurp up.

    0:47 - pH of 7.6 - 8.4, kH 12 - 18 n GH 8 - 18. Harder water the better.
    1:00 - 68 to 84 degrees fehrenheit. Cooler watr stronger shell, but not 2 cold. 74 is perfect.
    1:08 - ideally a cycled tank with Fritz Turbo Start n API liquid calcium.

    Long story, but I'm taking care of 2 young mystery snails until my social studies teacher grows his aquatic grass (About a week) and I'm using a 2.5 gallon. However I'm thinking of keeping one of my own after I give them to him because of how cool they are. I'm gonna need a bigger tank if I want to do that judging by the size of those snails! Lol

    • @LavsSnails
      @LavsSnails  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's so kind of you to do! Sure of course you can keep 1 in a 2.5 gallon! Be sure to give it plenty of things to climb on and graze on. Enrichment is quite important in a small tank. Like with any size tank, just be sure to do your water changes and your snail friend should be grand! 🐌❤👍best of luck!

    Hello, could you make a video of your snails that have deformities? I’ve been wondering what to look for. I have 3 clutches that I want to hatch but I don’t know what to look for in the healthy babies when they hatch. I know it’s a weird request lol.

    I have 200 to 300 mystery snail growing in a 45 gallon tank. Since they are very well fead, I have to make water change every 2 or 3 days. I would like to move some to my other tanks while they get biger. Some have Seachem Flourite Black substate. I have noticed that my ramshorn don't do well in that substrate. Could it be to ruff for snails? If so do you have an other black substate to recomand that does not lower pH? My city's pH is 6.4 and I strugle to push it over 7.

    Please help...started with non rinsed black sand very cloudy...got most of that cleared up but I added the Malawi buffer and it's sitting on the top of the sand. Should I mix it into the sand and stir everything up or will it dissolve? !? Also how do I clean the poo without making another cloud dust?

    Is the calcium block from CrayFish Empire? I got one from there but it says one block if for 50gals. Is it ok to put 1 block in a 10gal tank? I want to make sure my snails get enough but is too much bad for them?

    • @LavsSnails
      @LavsSnails  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! It is from Crayfish Empire! 1 block is definitely ok in anything from a 5g-30g. I leave them in all my tanks. More helpful then anything else, not harmful at all to them. Very beneficial 🐌♥️

    The crushed coral is for there shell right? Setting up a mystery snails tank and I have some in my fish drawer I stole one of the sponge filters and fixing 2 move over plants lowered the water level Down 3 inches have the heater kick on only if it goes under 68. Since the house stays cold. They have snaillo and im fixing to mix up calcium water as well. The one thing that makes go wait is the crushed coral I have for my puffer but he can live with sharing 😅 can you explain the reason of it in case I don't need it i dont just drop it in there and kill everyone 😬

    • @LavsSnails
      @LavsSnails  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The crushed coral will raise the Hardness and calcium levels of the tank. It shouldn't have any I'll effects of any fish. I will say, although mysteries can live in 68° water. They will not be happy and will be very lethargic and slow. That's just too cold for them. Again they can survive in it but not thrive. They are happiest at about 72-74.
      But yes, the crushed coral should be safe for everyone provided they don't mind harder water. 👍🐌💜
