    I finally found the sliding gate that I'm going to make. Now I can remove that makeshift screen that I've been using. I couldn't figure out how to have it slide without bulky wooden tracks. The pipe is genius. Great job. And I love me some Miriam Makeba, grew up listening to her songs in Africa.

    So beautiful! I want to make a sliding gate to enter our backyard from our driveway. So I want one side of the gate to slide open and then have the ability to swing/pivot the two gates open as one toward the driveway so the opening is the complete width of the driveway. I hope that makes sense. Anyway, you've given me a good idea how to accomplish my goal, thank you.♥️

    Not a bad concept. I did a search for some ideas. I wanted to make one for a drive way. Obviously with a large opening you'd generally have X2 gates and requires clearance for swing. I was more thinking of a single gate but a concrete base and maybe a channel. For the top stabiliser a second channel with 2 wheels that can house only come out at the ends. Your pipe idea is perfectly fine but restricted by the stop ends. Alternatively.. an inside channel and outside channel might work too. Much like your pipe idea. In regards to your pipe, it would be like your pipe going into a larger pipe. I guess there are various methods to achieve the same outcome. Cheers.

      Thanks so much Di and great to hear. I actually don’t but it was quite simple to do if you liked the look. The only thing special about it is that the two sides of wood and a 3/4” notch that is 3/4” deep which it’s the wire frame perfectly. Cut it with a table saw by running the board through a few times. That's an ingenious rail system and it plays well with the hog panel wire inset. How much wobble do you get with the size of the eye hole and the diameter of the pipe or is the fit good enough to eliminate it?

  • @tesla_3_performance
    @tesla_3_performance 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Used your idea, but i attached the galvanized pipe to the deck railing to keep it hidden. Only issue now is the bottom will swing outwards since there isn't anything holding it in place. Does yours swing or move at all?

  • @romegarcia3
    @romegarcia3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know you are not going for protection but, I thought it would be better with a second set of eye hooks on the right side of the gate opening.
    And maybe even a longer piece of 4 ft pipe which you can easily get cut to size at Homedepot.
    This would keep the gate from wanting to slide outward.

    • @BYOTools
      @BYOTools  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only reason I did this video was because I was going for protection haha. In all honest the gate really doesn't slide outward unless you really try to pull the gate in an awkward direction. I like the idea of more eye hooks but that would push the gate away from the post that I attached the hook on which means you would either need to move that post or get a longer latch, which just wouldn't look good. Thanks for watching though and hope you enjoyed the video.
