DIY Sliding baby gate. I made this gate to keep our baby out of our kitchen.

Nice job. Cute kid. I had to watch it twice as I missed the place where you installed the latch the first time through. If you have the room for the gate to swing, this is a much better idea than storing the gate behind the door. I had to do the hide-behind-behind-the-door as stair, handrails, or furniture prevented me from going with a swinging solution back in the day. Looks like a great design.
I’m looking to build a doggie gate and like the sliding aspect of this gate. Wish there was a demonstration of how the gate opens and closes using the hinges and sliding tracks.
How durable is this gate? I have a two year old and a seven month old. I’m worried that after a while it will start to sag from lack of support.

Matt I want to say I really appreciate your videos I use the wainscotting video and my project turned out perfect my wife was very impressed I will be using this video now to make my baby gate LOL
What size drawer slide did you use?
So what wood did you use for this and also where did you get all the metal work i.e. hinges, drawer runners and gate latch. Also all screws you used pls.
I love this idea. went to home depot, lowes and menards two locations each. none had 1x4s worth spending money on. I don't have a mill close enough to drive to so I got 2x3s and adjusting the measurements.
Did I miss something?!? Show the gate opening/retracting out of the way!

I think that when the baby gate is closed if the baby makes a little more pressure in the middle area it will break, at minute 3:10 of the video you can watch it, the drawer slides should be a real heavy duty with a protector so that the baby does not dirty his hands of lubricant grease with the drawer slides and also so that he does not cut his hands, but I think it is not a good idea the drawer slides in the baby gate because until today I have not seen any drawer slide with protector.
I apologize if I offend anyone with this comment, it is just for the safety of the babies.

The latch is attached to the wall goes into a hole in the gate. Keeps it from sliding open

The problem with this idea is the exposed slide. It's not a razor sharp edge, but there is no way I would leave the metal drawer slide exposed like that where a baby could touch it. You can clearly see it at 3:09 on the left half of the screen. It would be at the top and the bottom. No thanks!

A table saw and palm sander plus some long clamps is ‘a legit wood/carpentry shed’ since when? Since you don’t have a garage to store them in?
