Sally, it’s wonderful to see that you’re doing so well! 🙏🙏🙏 Your quilts are delightful works of art, so creatively designed, a joy to behold! Thank you for sharing, and welcoming us into your special room.
Sally, it gives me such joy what you have done and survived. I am so happy this is your life. Your studio is a brilliant place of magic and possibility. Lili, good to see you and you make the world sweeter and better everyday.
Wonderful video! Congratulations Sally, so very happy to hear you are doing well. Your quilts are beautiful, as are you. It is so nice to see you both together talking about the creative process, in such a deep and meaningful way. I too am moving toward making my knittng/crafting/sewing into a much more spiritual practice. It is a language of love and connection to our soul and to others. Thank you Jackie for being vulnerable and putting this our into the Universe. :)
I am a silent viewer from Down Under. I have enjoyed many of you podcasts...and poetry! Watching you and your mum Sally today was truly delightful and couldn't help myself from reaching out. You are two beauties with so much creativity and love between you. So special to share the passion for creative expression with your Mum. As a newish, self-taught knitter, you have inspired me to continue my own knitting journey which has often been frustrating. ❤ Lots of love to both of you and so happy that Sally is recovered and vibrant! Helen Maccora.
So wonderful to watch this, Jackie! I absolutely loved how this was pieced together like a warm and welcoming quilt... perfect for sharing the moments with Sally and her beautiful artistry! And not knowing about Sally's Instagram, I visited her page, and have gone down the beautiful rabbit hole of Sally's quilting and piecing, and also her strong and love filled journey through her recovery. Sharing the beautiful knitting of Lili was such a wonderful part of this whole exploration of three very different, but beautifully cohesive, expressions of artistry. Sally's "Room of Requirement" is indeed a wonderful place for you all to share. Cheers, Judith 💜
Love your new podcast Jackie. Two things that I notice that are really the same is when Lili was saying she loved the colors she picked for her Junko, but she didn't like them on her. And she wanted to knit it again with different colors. And you said you were not liking the colors in your hand while knitting your Twigs but you liked them on your body. I'm being so mindful of the colors I choose now to knit with because in the end they end up in your wardrobe. Like Melissa said if we knit the colors of our palate EVERYTHING goes together.
I experience the same in my home, it’s full of all kinds of disparate colorful beautiful things, and because I like them all, it’s a complex but cohesive and beautiful, inspiring whole (or so I’m told).
I almost don’t know where to begin, so I will start with thank you. With all my heart. This podcast truly touched my soul. There is so much to your content Jackie. Sometimes I have to pause after you have read something or said something and allow myself just to feel your words. I feel changed. And I feel grateful that I can share this process with all who join in on the conversation. It was wonderful to see Sally so healthy and vibrant. She is so wise and so talented. How very lucky your family is to share so much love. Lovely to see Lili again. Her sweater is gorgeous! And one last thing. Jackie, had you not said that you added colours to your Junko sweater, I wouldn’t have had a second thought. It is perfection. Balanced. And so suited to you. It is - you. Then you put the jacket on and well, there it is! Love it! I love how each podcast so far is unique. Sincerely, thank you ❤
Thank you for inviting us in to this delightful tour of your making processes and spaces. The “shop” is a perfect place for all to create. Sally’s ethic of making such a space for others is beautiful and touching. Wonderful to hear about Lily’s adventures in Ireland. I love how the Jax & Rose channel is evolving - nothing else like it out there! ❤🎉
Thank you for your thoughtfulness about your knits and for nudging us to begin thinking about the projects we have finished, are on our needles, or in our knitting plans. I think we have all knit projects because of the "wow" factor. Once finished, do we incorporate the item into our wardrobe? Sometimes yes...often no. Well done, Jackie. ❤
What a wonderful Mother you are blessed with and adopted daughter who is additionally talented. I think your charming knit fashion statements are magic. I am grateful listening to your podcasts as they say inspire me.
Omg I just laughed out loud. Jackie, you actually said, "Oh, it's just your standard tubular cast on." (said noone ever to a newer knitter lol) And I LOVE that way of talking to each other about techniques we are scared of doing.♥ I also send all my students to your tutorial for that. Thanks! And well done.
What a lovely episode. It was lovely to see Sally and Lily again. If Lily met the man in the wool shop in Donegal, I think I met him as well in 2016! We had a lovely chat and I bought some Donegal Tweed yarn and a knitted garment from him.
Thank you for inviting us into your home 🙏 Watching, listening….I think I got an answer to my confusion of many years “ why my knits and wardrobe stopped giving me such joy as I remember experiencing many years ago …. I grew up in Eastern European country which was under the Soviets till my mid thirties. We did not !!! Have “ things “ . Like literally….. since I was very creative soul who liked to dress up uniquely and stylish I was making a lot of clothing myself.I used to buy yarn from “ resellers “ ( lol u know what I mean ) who worked at the factories where yarn was used to make fabrics . Fabrics for sewing ( my clothes, clothes for my kids ) I used to get as leftovers from my tailor grandfather. Suddenly, watching you speak I realized that all that lacking of “ things” made me very grounded, mindful, appreciative and connected to my soul while choosing what to make. I couldn’t afford to be scattered because of the reasons I listed above . At that time my making was 100% reflection of me. I appreciate my current abundant American life and grateful , but as creative soul I got lost at this overwhelming ( comparing to Soviet life ) abundance of choices. Thank you Jackie for waking me up !!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I absolutely loved seeing the three of you together. And I loved hearing Sally talking about buying the new sofa for the living room. And you said you were going to show a picture and then didn't. I'd love to see It some time!
I don‘t have enough words to say how much I love your content. It’s right up my alley and makes my heart sing.💖 And to see Sally and Lili again. Made my day! Every video, every posting from you and your beloved ones is such a gift and pure joy. Thank you and kind regards to everyone of you!💖🫶🏻
What a lovely “nest” your family has made, gives me the feeling of being safe and seen…..something we all crave for. Enjoyed every minute of the content as well. Thanks 🤗
I thoroughly Enjoyed this episode so Much. Love the content, loved listening to Sally speak about her Quilts ( I’m a quitter also ) and Her Brother, so Beautiful. It was Great to see Lili oh my She has become such a Beautiful Knitter and She is churning out some Beautiful Textured Garments. Loved seeing the Special Space where the whole family can enjoy it looks so Homely and Beautiful with all the artworks and Colour…Thank You Jackie xx ❤
What a joy to watch this channel. Jaci, you are sharing your changing growth in a beautiful, thoughtful way. Your knitting is not how much you can accomplish, but a process to envelope who you are, and how you perceive yourself, and what you are hoping we will see and recognize in you and all that you do. It was fantastic to see Sally, and absorb the good news of her personal health; but even more to hear her share her journey and all it has meant. The ‘shop’ is a wonderfully delightful, calming, quiet space. And it obviously for everyone to share and retreat to for rest, relaxation, creation, quiet. I would love such a space. Lili, has grown and come into herself after being abroad, what a great opportunity. And yet the return home has been an easy transition because of all the love that is there, in the home in Madison. Thank you all for the sharing in this visit, I felt like I had also come home. Love to all of you, come back soon. Peg 💛🕊️
Jackie, your new podcast is important. I am watching you and your mother interact, two generations of artists and how you are deeply connected and at the same time completely individual. This works on so many different levels. I am an artist and was, when I was younger, often preoccupied with what the „market“ wanted. What you are doing, if I understand it correctly, is providing a pathway through PERSONAL story (the most universal), specific repetitive practice i.e. „handcraft“, color, unfiltered filming to encourage people to think more flexibly and contextually in order to develop access to ceaselessly flowing, gracious Creativity which always reveals authenticity and then supports, through conscious practice its development. Thanks dear one. Keep it up please.
Today my mother showed me a coffee mug painted by an Alcott grandmother. (Louisa May Alcott married into the family, but we are not descendants.) I’ve seen the cup my whole life, but never thought much of it. Right now Sally is taking up painting, like her grandmother did (at her age) and her grandmother’s grandmother evidently did too. What I was struck by, was how unremarkable, remarkable this object was. That it was valued enough and fortunate enough to be passed down and down. Not valued outside my family, but within: This woman’s work. A private valuing. You’re right, what we pay attention to is a powerful, albeit quiet choice. That a painted cup could last at all, unshattered by circumstance or temper, is a testament beyond aesthetics, to something abiding in how women move and care and create their way through time. I’m so grateful for your comment. Beyond grateful too to get to record an episode with Lili and my mother. ❤️
@@jdominirose Exactly. Thank you for sharing the family cup with me! Anonymity has value. I often find in feminist literature rage about the invisibility of women. Especially as they age. And although I agree I find female anonymity also to be a hidden, subversive power. You can accomplish so much going unnoticed. This is spiritually connected to the via negativa or the alchemical negrido. I love the privacy of knitting and the worlds that pass through me. Your mother described sewing her life into her quilt and you about how you want to choose color in a new way… you talked about delighting the world. So then. Thank you for your reply and all the very best for this endeavor! I would love to send you and your mother my song, „The Old Woman and the Lark.“. The story unfolds in a landscape that is inspired by my many trips to the North Sea coast of Denmark. Blessings!
What a wonderful video!! So great to see Sally and Lili again. I was wondering where Lily was. Thank you for this warm, inspiring, love filled episode!
Sally's artistic path of moving from quilt to paper reminds me of Suleika Jaouad shifting from writing to painting in the documentary American Symphony. True creators cannot be stopped from tapping into the Source. Thank you for a beautiful episode.
ooh sally i haven't finished watching but had to comment..... i just love you, and amazed at your journey and how you so eloquently told your story through creativity... i'd really love to see more of you and your creations. xo
Loved the podcast, so endearing! FYI: the stitching from Sally’s Mother with the dark blue backing is called HARDANGER, a Norwegian stitching style. My Mother made tablecloths, Table runners, pillows, bell pulls, etc. I cherish each of them ❤️
oh Sally ! So wonderful to see you and hear your news ! Looking forward to the rest of the podcast - have just woken up and started watching and unable to wait to comment …
I love Sally’s shop. I love the new aesthetic you’re all embracing. Welcome back, Lily! Love your new sweater, Jackie. Would love to attend your retreat. 💕🌸. Which Junko would you recommend as a starter?
Love your channel Jackie and what a joy to see Sally and Lili! Thank you for guiding us into your creative process. I’m learning from you how to view my knits in a new way!
Hi Jackie: Thank you for your awesome podcast! It is such a treat to see Sally and hear all the lovely feelings and inspirations that our crafting is bringing us. It is so great to have such wonderful knitting friends to reaffirm the reasons why we knit. While I am a mediocre knitter, I only learned how to knit sweaters during the pandemic. I buy patterns and sometimes I am not successful knitting them. I don’t understand the charts with the lifted increases and the stitches are not aligning. Yet, I still want to challenge myself and try to learn. That desire helps me deal with my health challenges. I resonate with Sally, we have to our crafting desire that will help us deal with some of our health challenges. I love all the Junko sweaters that were shown. I will keep those patterns in mind, to hopefully be able to knit one of these days when I get better at understanding colorwork charts. Thank you so much for sharing, you are a God send! Your podcast is so zen to watch and I feel so much better after watching! Continue awesome and amazing recovery, Sally! Hope to see you more often! Happy crafting! ❤❤
