I am so in love with the Bloedel! And I love the question, what helps you thrive? The deep desire of my heart, expressed wonderfully by a theologian I admire, is to "bear witness to a truly flourishing life ..." I'm figuring it out day-by-day, but I find keeping that desire of my heart front of conscience helps me navigate the quotidian and to make choices (even small choices, to eat this or that, to do this or that, etc.) that help me thrive. My auto-pilot is broken, so it's important for me to take time to reflect ("do I really want to do this?") when I get an invitation or other such, so I'm not automatically saying yes to an evening activity "just because" when I'd rather be home knitting, etc. How can one write to you? Do you have a business email or other such? I tried Ravelry messages ... but not sure you see those.

After several life transitions, including profound grief, dropping one of my sons off at college, illness, and the joy of our first grandchild, I have a new found appreciation for being present, letting go of the need for perfectionism......and even letting go of worry....instead I am finding gratitude in all of life's moments, sitting with all of the feelings - good and bad....just all of it, so that thriving is actually just being....just being able to wake up each morning to a day of new possibilities and choosing gratitude in all things....things do not always go as hoped but there is a peace in the acceptance of what is-- this is THRIVING 💖

I am very late to this most recent of videos but being a first grade teacher, you know that the first month of school is a bit crazy. Although I am nearing , and looking forward to retirement (about 6 more years), I thrive by watching my students have moments of pure joy. I thrive sharing my life and love of adventures and knitting with them and weaving that love into life lessons but I also thrive by recharging by battery and giving back to myself so I can show up every day for those little souls. Happy belated birthday!

Thriving… interesting to contemplate. I paused the podcast to think… I’ve realized when I am thriving, I’m not really conscious of it, but when I’m not thriving and stuck am so very aware of that gap. Today is one year since my youngest daughter overdosed, and rocked me to my core in way I cannot put in words. Since then, I’ve been blessed to watch her this past year move towards thriving again. I also now see that I’ve been holding my breath this whole year, holding back from letting myself thrive. I saw this podcast posted 11 days ago, and remembered only today to watch. I believe there was no coincidence in timing... It’s time for me to let go and trust that it’s now my time to thrive again. I will do so with my knitting and crochet and love creating for myself and others. I will do so by finding inspiration in nature with my long walks in rain, snow, wind or shine. I will do so by filling up on my husband’s tender hugs. I will do so by soaking up the smiles and laughter of my daughters. Thank you for the story of the barista. Felt like you were talking to me about knitting life circles around ourselves. Love that ❤

I think I’m thriving because knitting has become my creative outlet. I love that it allows me to express myself through color, texture, and design. Whether it’s a sock or a sweater, I pour a part of myself into every piece. The process of choosing the yarn, feeling it in my hands, and watching it come together stitch by stitch is incredibly fulfilling. Plus, it’s therapeutic-it helps me slow down and focus on the moment, which is so valuable in today’s world. Knitting has allowed me to challenge myself, connect with others, and express my creativity. I truly believe it’s an art form that continues to push me forward, and it is fun to think about what I will create next. Love the pink colorway you shared as your next one 😍

What a wonderful contemplative podcast and, question. I recently retired from healthcare and turn 65 this year. I have found during this quiet season that thriving for me includes time I never allowed myself in the 24 hr world of taking care of patients, families, staff and teams. That energy has now shifted to listen to the quiet, the wind, the pine trees, birds, children laughing and relearning and being curious on how to shower myself with the same level of care. It’s been challenging to make this shift but slowly the contemplative time is a happy reminder on how to be more childlike, joyful and thankful for the gift of every day. ❤

Thriving… if I’m honest I have not been thriving…only surviving for months, days, years…but I will. I emerge from time to time to put my toe in the water…to dare to take one tentative step back into the world. It’s the makers that draw me out… The makers of fibre, of blended colours and the merging of the two. It’s the stroke of a paintbrush filled with potential, that wakes the canvas, and fills it with dimension and perspective. It’s the makers who weave thread through fabric and create works of art that the generations to come will shroud themselves in and feel the love of the maker envelop them. It’s the makers who water seeds, to bring brilliance and life to flowers that are then transformed into magical gardens that I lose myself in for hours. It’s the makers of sound advice that help heal my mind and heart that has been and continues to be trampled on by the last person I would have expected. It’s the makers of ingenious projects for our homes that allow us to build our nest of comfort and solace where I can return each day, to close the doors behind me in order to mend my broken soul. But I will continue to appear each and every day. I am determined and hopeful that with every sunrise, the will to thrive becomes a little more effortless - less sorrowful, less painful, more joyful and that it flows like the waves. I can trust that the water that has pulls into the deep dark depths of the ocean away will always return to nourish the shore.

He was an alcoholic. The road has been hard of course. His Celebration of Life is this weekend. Today I am arranging flowers in vases to bring. I think the colors I use will be a good start to use for a shrug. Your telling of no knitting on the needles and the poem you wrote was so wonderful. I write poetry too. We need to meet Jackie! Jackie… I love your podcasts, your lust for life and all things fiber and philosophy. What an exquisite choice to have us each share our unique paths to “thriving”. In addition to putting “me first” I thrive most completely when I partake in some form of creativity. At this point in my journey, with an empty nest and a husband who has transitioned, I find I “thrive” the most when I put myself first, (not always easy for women)….an action that I needed to practice and practice again after so many life changes. Now my body hums with thriving when I allow myself to be creative, whether with one of the many instruments I enjoy; playing with the fibers in my coveted “stash”; singing to continue to raise my vibration; puttering in my ever evolving gardens with their myriad scents, colors and delights; and of course poking my nose in my book collection to feed my soul! Lastly, I also thrive when I watch your podcast, and find myself marking my calendar for when i think (and hope) your next lovely missive will appear. Extending myself grace when I don't meet those self imposed expectations I make for myself. Reminding myself to stop and do the things that bring me joy. Allowing the pulse of excitement to simply flow through me and give those inspirations the space to shine. Remember how sharing with others is a crucial part of my experience in life. Encouraging and lifting others up whenever and wherever possible. I could go on and on, but those are the few things that came to mind first.

I find that I am most thriving when I prioritize finding ease in my everyday life. Usually that means waking up before my family to read or knit quietly, sitting down to an afternoon tea break, and not trying too hard to make everything perfect in my life (my house, my work, cooking meals) when in reality accepting the imperfections or simpler options are absolutely “good enough.” Thank you for this podcast Jackie, and for your patterns! I am almost done with my first Shrug season variation and I’ve already knit a Friday Shrug that I LOVE!

Watching my daughter and Mom fight so hard this year made me realize how precious time is. I have become so protective of my time. I have stopped trying to please others by putting myself last, and have started spending my time in ways that fulfill me. It can be a walk or run, rock climbing, knitting, gardening, reading, playing with color. Thriving for me has been taking my time back.

Thank you Jackie for this podcast, this is the one I’ve been waiting for since you started this channel. You seem so relaxed, content and on a journey to understanding what makes you truly happy, taking deviations down as many endless roads as they come up, seeking and learning. You create beautiful items and you’re willing to share your creativity with others so they can run their own creative gauntlet. What makes me thrive? Having the ability to step away from the corporate rat race, to actual give myself the time to understand myself and what I need. Using my creative juices not just to paint but finding jewellery design and jewellery making ticks a gigantic box in my creative expression, taking the plunge and putting my jewellery out there and for it to be well received. Fills my heart with warmth, gratitude and peace. Being able to say, in this moment, in this space, in this time, I am truly happy.

I am ready to cast on a Friday shrug with the Elmer I bought while on Bainbridge this past spring. Your play with colors has truly inspired my knitting odyssey and the joy of color! What is helping me to thrive in this season of adult children and aging parents/in laws is learning to love myself and others exactly where I/they are. When I can practice surrender, letting go and accept that all is well and that I have everything I need I know I am on the right path. Having lived many years of fighting, controlling and denying which was barely surviving I choose today to live and thrive💜

This year I am 61 and I am very conscious of what it is like to thrive. Sometimes we fool ourselves and think that thriving means we are always happy. Although the past several years have come with many challenges as my parents aged and became ill, I would still have to say I am thriving. This to say that although caring for my frail father, teaching part time, living alone and travelling to see grandchildren is exhausting I am thriving. Everyday, I am noting the beauty in this world and reflecting on how to become more of the self that I am meant to be. Thriving is not passive for me, it is an act of awareness.

@@Lauraleahful Beautiful. Service is thriving too. When I was young, I watched my father care for his aging father. They had not always had a smooth relationship, but this devotion my father showed his father, ended up being one of his greatest sources of joy, and when my father was dying (and I too didn’t have an ideal relationship) but how we tended him, was one of the most meaningful acts of my life. ❤️
