Very nice build and interesting flight pattern. I have seen this before and in even more exaggerated form. The plane is tail heavy, trimmed to fly right. It scoots off to the right, gaining speed, slows as it climbs, reducing lift and the dihedral correction to left motor roll, the motor torque rolls it left, nose drops, left side slip, it gains speed, rolls right and repeats the cycle. More weight on the nose will help. Sheet balsa makes it prone to tail heaviness. The short nose makes it hard to balance. The plan calls for a 4" Kayson plastic propeller. The wing area is asking for a 6" prop. That would help with the CG, shown at about 40% chord. Way too long for ROG takeoffs.
The wings could be wet formed, eliminating the need for the ribs. R1 is unnecessary anyway because the wing is passing through the cambered slot in the fuselage. Once the wings are dry, the form can be tilted to the desired dihedral angle and the roots can be sanded to the necessary bevel. Just don't sand away any of the leading or trailing edge. While the wing is on the form at the angle the profile can be traced on a bit of card and transferred accurately to the side of the fuselage. That slot will actually have a higher camber than the airfoil.
Wet forming sheet wings is described here, among other places: www.endlesslift.com/build-a-better-cloud-tramp/
I find that HDPE plastic disks make better wheel retainers. www.endlesslift.com/simple-wheel-collars/

Actually, the model had a warp in the wing and that was why it was falling off on the tip of those long narrow wings. Once corrected, that issue went away. The CG location was fine. The model had a good glide with the CG as it was. The stall was corrected with a bit of down thrust and the model flies quite nicely (to the left.🙂) now. The model was only built for fun and in memory of Bill Hannan so I preferred to build it exactly to the plan as he intended. The only change was the balsa prop. I've built several of these and the model flies quite well with that little 4 inch Kaysun prop. My last one would do close to a minute indoors with that prop and a long loop of 0.050 rubber. Enough performance for me, being only a simple sport model.

@@Watchingthevideos99 OK, you didn't show that, so I'm going by the two short clips shown. Maybe you could get a long video of it now that it is trimmed.

@@aeromodeller1 since the model was built just for fun, it's already hanging in my shop. I flew it in my yard with the young boy that lives next door several times and I was done with the model. I fly FAC competitions, so the model was a novelty, and my main focus is with my scale models used for contests. Too many other projects. So sorry, no other video.

Crazy!! I was just going to build that exact model last week! Incredible!

@@Watchingthevideos99 Yeah, I like all-balsa builds because they’re simple, and easy to construct and having no dope needed. Also, where did you get the balsa from?

@@thebalsaboy lately, I've been ordering balsa from National Balsa in MA. Service is pretty good. Prices OK. (all considering with the price of balsa these days). I always order the light competition wood. But unfortunately, they don't offer that in 1/32nd. So, I order the short 24 inch long pieces of 1/32nd and occasionally get a good piece.

If you want to make a fan prop as shown here at 3:49, you can get the jig here:

Yes, actually that's the jig I currently own. Cut my own strips.

Another beautiful build! I think I have that same light board- they are very helpful 😎

Thank you. The light board was a Christmas gift and I love it! Thinking I might get another in a different size. 😊

Nice build, John. I have two solid balsa sheet kits made by Sterling built simular. They look good, but sometimes hard to get flying really good without stalling. I built a Comet STINSEN SR-4 VOYAGER in the same fashion. It's alittle heavy.

I also have two original 1950s comet all sheet models I’ve built, one of them is an Aeronca Sedan which flies.. OK.

They can fly good but need to be kept light. Still, a fun project.

@@thebalsaboy Well John, I haven't built much lately since I was a teenager back in the 1980'S. I built some models back then. I am in my late 50'S now. I'm trying to get back into it. I attempted to build some models lately in the past 6 years. I finish two, but they were water damaged in an apartment. Another was a scratch built 36" w.s Sterling Monocoupe I never finished because it became to heavy. Then I became sick in 2018. I keep buying kits and plans, but haven't built them. I have built a Guillows Super Cub 95, but it's not finished. I started a Guillows Hawker MK 1B TYPHOON, but needed surgery 3 times. I kind of laid off for a while. Now I have over or close to 90 kits and over 25 plans to build, but having trouble paying bills. So I have to work.
