Hey Afzal! Great video. Could you do a video on Masters in Finance vs. Masters in Management for investment banking? Highlighting the benefits of MSF, chances of getting hired, etc.
CFA VS MBA....
Thank you so much for your efforts....
Appreciate it....
What did you end up doing?
MBA vs CFA
you're such a great TH-camr, man! I'm a political science student but you've really encouraged me to go into finance.
You should also do a video about consulting.
Ah thanks!
@@AfzalHussein I was a political science student too during my GCSE. I majored in Business & Finance in college.. Changed my life.. Im thinking of doing CFA
I have a master's degree in Economics , I feel like pursuing CFA.
Questions for Q&A:
- What made you leave Goldman/ IB?
- Ever thought about making the switch to buy side such as your hedge funds?
- How do you feel working for yourself vs working for a company?
- Do you do any trading/investing yourself?
He left coz he felt that asset management was boring and he wasn't as fulfilled as he felt
I am studying a MSF Degree and the material is similar to CFA level 1 in some courses such as corporate finance, fixed income and asset management, but the MSF does focus more on financial engineering and modeling. All my assignments and projects require lotta modeling and valuation.
Great videos, I just graduated with a Bachelors in Finance and I'm learning a lot here.
Awesome! Loved this video. Currently conflicted between the 2. Excellent video!
Two copies of the intelligent investor?! One for each eye?
Nice videos !! I think It really depends on the nature of the masters program. I’m doing both CFA and masters and the masters is WAY harder then CFA since the program at my school is highly quantitative. And graduates tend to have an hedge for positions in public market quantitative investment teams/ hedge funds and also sales and trading.
Which level are u on
You can do a master's degree in finance at the University of St Andrews for around £11,000 which is a top tier university
Are you no longer an investment banker? If not, can you please talk about why you stopped and how you prefer what you do now compared to working at Goldman.
Pretty sure he has video(s) on this
@@dsatish1997 How different or what's the difference?
Please feel free to like, comment and share this video so more students can benefit from its content! :) Oh, and SUBSCRIBE too for weekly videos!
Could you also do a video on FRM?
Financial risk management
@Abdelrahman Mahmoud HAHAHAH
Loving the new setup mate.
Hey great video man, can you please do CFA vs MBA.
Also the questions for the q&a.
1. If you could start your career all over again, what would you do differently?
2. Do you think getting a masters in finance would help be better prepared for the CFA.
3. Do you think getting these financial certificates such as the CFA, FRM, Masters of Finance, etc will help a person be better prepared to start a company of their own?
Thanks for videos, I always look forward to every Wednesday, keep up the hard work!
I read somewhere that what is being taught in MBA in finance is similar to CFA level 1 ( and maybe for Level 2 ). So it gets a bit easier to get through it and better prepare for Level 3
I was waiting for this for a while. Thanks
Time to know the journey of afzal from IB to business :)
After watching this video, I really that I am in the USA. Overall, very informative and will watch it again when moving to the UK
CFA vs MBA vs MSF. Is it worth it to get a MSF, work in investment banking and then later get an MBA to get back to work and get a management role?
this doesn't make sense. you can do a finance based mba. take all the finance courses your school provides in mba. that plus your core courses in accounting and strategy and hr will be better in getting into management positions. the finance courses i took also had students from masters in finance so the material is the same.
Hey Afzal I really appreciate your videos, I was wondering for someone who missed the boat and realized later in life that they're interested in private equity, is it possible to break in? What sort of path should one follow?
Also congrats on your subscribers! :)
Hey Afzal - Thanks for the great videos. Could you do an in-depth guide into the Spring Week applications process? Your other spring week video was more on the performance on the spring week, rather than applying to it! Would be super helpful!
CFA vs MBA video please.
Btw I love your videos, it's extremely helpful for grads as well those who want to get into finance.
This was very informative, thank you
Thanks for watching! :)
CFA VS MBA
Q&A question:
How possible it is a foreign student (mexican) can get an intership/job in GS or any other Investment banking institution?
Thanks a lot man! Keep the good work
Sergio Valdez Mata as likely as anyone else. Possibly slightly higher chances because the investment banks like to have a diverse group of people employed to get different insights into problems.
Thank you Afzal, your videos save me a lot of time of research. Up!!!
To all people considering doing CFA level 1 during your final undergraduate year I would suggest taking the exam after you finished. I passed my level 1 during my undergrad but it meant all your time for 6-12 months was basically uni + cfa so its a big sacrifice
Are you doing level 2 this June?
Kody Fischer yes i am. On top of full time work. How about yourself?
@@Liverpoolaussie21 I'm prepping for level 1 atm, I am also working FT at the moment
@@Liverpoolaussie21 are you also based in UK, if you don't mind me asking?
Kody Fischer no im in sydney australia. My advice for level 1 is prac papers. Do 30-40 of them. Yes you will be doing some of them twice or so but you wont remember the paper. The questions you will begin to understand are very formulaic. Find out your weak areas ( mine was FSA and FI) and then work on them some more
5:52 this is really valuable. Thanks a lot
Pleasure!
My name is Karthik Sundaresan, and I intend to do Asset Management, but I have some questions about what the career really entails. Can you speak to your experience in Asset Mangement at GS, a typical day, what you loved, and what you didn't Afzal? Thanks again man keep up the good work!
He already did
This is such a great insight as I am literally at the point of choosing CfA or Masters ... I’ll be going down the masters role as I want to be an investment banker ... thanks for the help ... fantastic insight ... will recommend to many friends
MBA vs CFA video pls! Your content is so useful
Man, thank you for this videos. The are very Helpfull and interesting. Keep going!!!
This is good info. keep it up!
Thanks!
Thanks for this great video..almost every doubt cleared, but I am curious to know more about CFA vs MBA.
How did your interest developed towards investment banking, why did you leave investment banking? Tell us more about your business and where are you from?
P.S. sorry for asking too many questions 😅
*Questions for the Q&A:*
1. What are the appropriate qualifications to get hired by an investment bank?
2. Do marks matter for getting into an investment bank?
He answered them. Check previous videos
Is a Master's in Finance from a non top tier college worth it in terms of a career in Banking or Asset Management?? Do Banks even recognize Non top tier or even low tier Masters in Finance?? Also based on your experience, do Banks value any other charters such as FRM and CAIA AS COMPARED to CFA? Thnx
Well this depends on what types of employers are you looking to work for, if you want to work for some of the most prestigious institutions ( GS, MS, JPM, Blackstone, KKR etc.), then going to one of the "top tier target schools" would certainly help
CFA does not necessarily mean deeper knowledge than a Masters in Finance from a top-tier university. Those Masters tend to go much more in-depth and as part of your curriculum you’ll be asked to e.g. build financial models from scratch. Moreover, many employers require an advanced degree for certain jobs on the buyside. This means a Masters degree is a prerequisite. Having completed a Masters from a top-tier university, you’ll find the curriculum for the CFA very familiar and it shouldn’t take you long to complete levels 1 and 2.
please do a video on MBA vs CFA
I know a few guys in the hedge fund industry, they refer to people with CFA's as Cant Fucking Add. it left an impression.
So, is Analyst Prep your recommended route for studying for a CFA Level 1? Love the videos by the way...clear, logical, knowledgeable...
Very insightful video!
Thanks!
Q&A: Did you face any challenges in banking being from an ethnic minority?
It's London not Switzerland lol
Hi, Afzal thank you very much for your video. I am 40 years old and I started a new career in the banking industry, after working for 15 years in sales for CPG companies. I like to study and actually get new licenses or diplomas. I really don't know what would be better for me, I am working as a credit risk analyst in a Financial institution and would like to know more about finance, investment and banking don't know yet the path I just want to earn more knowledge and of course, I am OK with the commitment in time. Do you think CFA would be good for me?
Great video, very useful.
MBA VS CFA
I don’t agree with the part where you said Masters degree becomes irrelevant after sometime. Masters students get equipped to deal with work at Management level, that’s why they need to have knowledge from different areas, but that doesn’t mean they can’t do a specific job function. For example if one is interested in Finance, they can major in Finance Management which literally goes deep into the field of Finance. I think the major difference between the two is that CFA looks only at the Finance perspective while MBA does more than that.
Hello Afzal! Great content on your videos overall with clear explanation! I have a question
Can I register to the program for may 2023 just to get the study material , prepare and give the exam next year?will it charge me an extra fee? Thaks a lot
This is very helpful, thank you so much
Q&A,
I will be finishing my ACCA in the coming june and i have enrolled myself for CFA lvl 1 in Dec. I intend to work as soon as i finish my ACCA in june, but my question is should i start of in banking or advisory/consulting, giving that i wish to work at a management level in my later career years.
Just curious, how did your Dec exam go? I finished CIMA in Aug 2019 and also took CFA Dec 2019 exam. But I feel that too much studying is actually not the optimal use of time. Networking is the key
Thank you for another great video Afzal. One question: Do you think getting a masters in finance would help be better prepared for the CFA.
Should ppl do both ?? CFA and CAIA
Great job! Keep it up!
Very well explained, thank you for such a great videos. I request you to make a video on CFA vs MBA. Thanks in advance. 😁
this is so helpful, thanks!!
It’s pretty unrealistic to say you can do cfa in 1.5 years. Realistically 2 and a half is the absolute minimum but it’s takes most people longer.
Also not sure why you think it’s costs 10 grand. Entrance for each level is less than a grand. So can be done for around 3 grand as you don’t need to spend that much on extra materials especially if studying with a froend
can you show us some of the books on your shelf? great video by the way!!!
How Do a Chartered Accountant go for investment banking at wall street? Pls suggest
Yes. I want to know the same ...i am a CA foundation student now .....its my dream to be in the wall street ....anyway thanks for putting up this question ...
Do you plan on making a video about CAIA for ppl working in AM any time soon?
MBA vs. CFA
Really depends on the MSF….not all are the same.
I'm just on the verge of completing a 2 year graduate programme within corporate banking and have 2 levels of CFA under my belt. I'd really like to move into investment banking. What advice would you give me? Have I got a chance going on the graduate programme or do IBs ignore grad applications from those who have already been working? I'm 23 btw. Thanks bro!
CFA Vs MBA sir thanks for all the content very useful
might be stupid question, but I am wondering if I can use CFA Level 1-3 materials for studying masters in finance? I mean as an additional source of information and materials...
i love your channel, brother! your channel have all the answer i need as a banking student!
Tell us about your experience in asset management at Goldman sachs and why you decided to leave
CFA VS MBA
thank u bro for this information
please talk to us more a out ur career path
for a career in development finance, which one is better MS development finance or CFA
Really informative video bro
CFA vs MBA would be quite interesting please
When and why did you start getting into investment banking?
It doesnt matter what u get. If you dont know anybody inside ur chances are 1% to get in.
will CFA be helpful in fintech careers or data science in finance domains ??
Thank you so much for sharing such amazing knowledge it really helped me a lot by adding value to my knowledge.
I want to get into investment banking with an MBA degree in Banking and Financial Services specialization. Also, I have done certification in investment banking from IMARTICUS. Sir can you suggest how I need to go ahead.
Love the videos mate, but I think being able to see the recording camera through the mirror looks slightly unprofessional.
Baytah
And there was me admiring the fact that his shelf is populated with books
Can you clarify the distinction of a masters in finance and an MBA?
I think Masters of Finance (MFin/ MSc Finance) are generally geared for candidates who are keen to break into the high finance industry (IB, AM, PE&VC, HF etc), whereas for MBA (top tier), it is more about gaining the valuable alumni network & prestige, it is more geared towards experienced professionals who are looking to break through the corporate ladders and move up into the management roles (EDs& MDs)
masters in finance focuses solely on finance. MBA focuses on business, management skills and does include finance but not as in depth. So an mba is more broad
Is that red book at the back the intelligent investor?
Would you recommend some books that can put you ahead of other applicants?
Sorry for too many questions, but is it possible to get into Banking or asset management without having done spring weeks or Summer internships? Thnx
yes. simple as that. it's easier to get an internship when you get the spring week though
no
Hey Afzal - I am working towards my CIMA qualification, I am on the 2nd level now, operational level. I am thinking of doing my masters now, do you think a Masters in Finance will be a good choice for me or a Masters in Accounting?
How can i be a expert of risk and banking? Its CFA and FRM? Or not
Currently pursuing Master of Commerce focused in Finance, typically known to be M.COM in India. I'm totally looking forward to enrich my finance career by the CFA certification with a full-time job by the side. Please suggest me some tips on how I can gain an edge with the combination of two.
Could you please make a video explaining cfa vs cpa?
Im completing my Ecobomics degree next year and starting the CFA. I'm excited and scared at tge sane time.
What kind of Mathematics background is needed for MS Finance and CFA?
Hello Afzal Hussein. I am currently a final year student, but I have a problem completing my final project. My question is whether the "long time of study" determines the chances of being accepted for work?
I haven't had a chance to check out the CFA cost video you made but I thought I might share my cost breakdown since we came to different numbers.
Level One
$310 Mark Meldrum "Full Access"
$699 Kaplan Schweser "Essential Packages"
$900 Early Registration Fee (CFAI)
$350 CFAI Enrollment Fee
Level Two
$350 Mark Meldrum
$799 Kaplan Schweser "Essential Packages"
$900 Early Registration Fee (CFAI)
Level Three
$390 Mark Meldrum
$699 Kaplan Schweser "Essential Packages"
$900 Early Registration Fee (CFAI)
Total - $6297 before tax
Personal Cost - $4100 before tax with my work place discounts
Hope that helps someone out.
What group were you in at Goldman? How come you left to do your own thing? How is it going having your own business?
He was in GSAM (Goldman Sachs Asset Management) for 3 years. A lot of people leave IB after to 2-3 years to switch the buy-side, consulting, non-profits, start-ups etc.
should i do cfa and masters in finance together?
Do you still make your own investments along side running your business, even though you have now left the world of Investment Banking?
I am a recent grad from economics twying to break into IBD, PE or Consulting. As you said CFA is not required for those divisions but I am wondering wether it would help me to differentiatie from other candidates in the current context of few opportunities and lots of candidates.
How do you feel about having both, CFA and MBA?
So particularly in equity research/financial modeling, CFA better suited?
I've just finished my MFE and don't have a job. Is it worth study for the December CFA as I seek employment?
Yes
Hi , cheers for the video really, am i too old at 34 to start a career in finance " asset management ", meaning will i still be recognized and considered after graduation by employers i am considering doing a Master in 1 year? thanks a lot for your response
Cfa only useful if you are already in good finance role. If you are in some crap back office bean counter role then CFA will not mean anything - everyone has it and have met many who do not understand basic finance (many Indians from India not UK born Indians, not always just observation) as they passed with either little experience or little understanding of material. A good Masters if going into high finance from Imperial or LSE or other top 10 school spending £30k plus is far better.
Is it true that at investment banking firms you are on a temporary contract as an analyst and if you do not perform they will not promote you to an associate and essentially sack you?
CFA VS CPA VS MBA PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO
Is it advisable to do both at the same time
Can you do a video on CFA and Fintech?
Hello Afzal, I'm organizing a conference in my business school (top 5 in France), and my finance club would love to discuss with you about it. Maybe you could develop a new network in France? Please answer it :) . Btw, great video !
Which school please
