I always go back to an old band called Beyond Twilight. Their first album featured Jorn Lande on vocals (and it's incredible), and their last album was a single song in 48 parts or something (also incredible). That's just me though :)
Another great example of symphonic metal is Mors Principum Est - check out their songs Apprentice of Death, Reclaim the Sun, We are the Sleep, God Has Fallen, and Monster in Me.
Dimmu Borgir and more specifically their live show with the Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Check out Dimmu Borgir - Gateways live from Forces of the Northern Night. I love how the orchestral parts are written in it.
The guitarist Christos Antoniou does the orchestration according to the credits in the booklet of this Live album/Blu-ray/DVD and the booklet of the album this track is on. His website says that he studied composition at the London college of music, so he is a trained composer. A lot of their music is written with the orchestra in mind.
I've always been a fan of symphonies and metal. In recent years orchestras have been making some sort of collabs with metal bands, mixing with metalcore, death metal and it has been an honor to my ears. I'm really glad 2 great music styles get together and form such a pleasant experience to the human ear!
The name of the Drummer is Kerim Lechner AKA "KRIMH", His YT channel is "KRIMH Drummer" I´ve following him since he open its YT channel he´s really awesome
I met Sotiris (the bold guy) in 1994 when they made their first masterpiece-Mystic places of dawn-.You should listen to it. I think their influence was Paradise Lost at the time of Gothic .
There are orchestral only versions of a lot of their music floating around - worth listening to as well. Plus the Intro is a major theme running through the new album.
Band-Maid just released a new song this morning (15th July) but it’s a limited release so it will be removed within a few weeks. It’s called ‘Sayonakidori’ which means ‘Nightingale’. Rather beautifully, it translates as: SA (small) YO (night) NAKI (singing) DORI (bird). th-cam.com/video/sGzAQigaL14/w-d-xo.html
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Drum, bass and acoustic guitar with vocals from Miku and also some from Akane! The bass was the only non-acoustic instrument in the whole gig, And Akane uses rods on the drums, not sticks. Interesting stuff.
Welcome to my unwanted, long ass, guide to Septicflesh: Septicflesh had a hiatus when the members went studying and you can hear a clear difference between the sound of these two periods. The band before was named Septic Flesh and now is Septicflesh. They wanted to make this concert (from the video) in Greece, but they were not allowed and moved it to Mexico. I think something to do with the particular venue. but their similar show in Athens now was sold out. Christos - the guitarist does the orchestration and writes the music. He is a classical musician Seth - the singer and bassist does all the art, also the art of some other bands. He is a professional artist. Sotiris - guitar and clean vocals - he writes the lyrics. Often he does not tour with the band, cause he has obligations keeping him from traveling. But he said he is trying to find the time and didn't want to stop the band from preforming. Krimh - the drummer, other than being absolutely incredible at his job he is kind of their social relations guy. If someone answers on TH-cam or Instagram it's probably him. He is the most likely you'll meet after a show. They all contribute to the music. Here is some side info about the band: Seth and Christos are brothers. Christos is the younger brother by two years. When asked if they fight a lot, he said that if they weren't related they would've killed each other on a few occasions. But also he once proudly said "My brother has a beautiful voice" when someone complimented the vocals. Christos hates the name Septicflesh and kept it only because they got stuck with it. I don't know why he doesn't like it, but I think it's pretty cool. He has a side project named Chaostar, that is more orchestral. Seth has clean vocals in a couple of songs as well as his usual, but he has only been a guest there. He studied composition in the London College of Music and has made music for two movies/series and an upcoming video game. One of them got him an award for the score, but I don't remember which. He Also, he was also absolutely stoked to do this show with the live orchestra and expressed disappointment that they couldn't do it in Greece. His wife, Fany Melfi Antoniou, sings in septicflesh sometimes. I suppose backing vocals - she was at the concert at the Acropolis. She has a very cool, strange, voice and is a good singer. The funny thing about Seth as a frontman is that while his live voice is incredible, better than the recording sometimes, he seems like he doesn't give a shit about getting the lyrics right haha But we are not too mad, since we are His Friends :D He was told he had to redo the cover art of their first few albums in quite a hurry, due to some copyright nonsense going on, you can see the albums with two versions of a cover because of this. He likes Addidas so much he made a little fanart of Anubis wearing Adidas. Seth has started painting as a kid and when he was a teen he studied design, later he got accepted in the Athens University of Fine Arts, (As a fellow artist - he is a lucky bastard!) after uni he worked for Metal hammer Greece for a while before developing the style you see now on the covers of Septicflesh, Kamelot, Moonspell and a bunch of other bands. His favorite artist is Francis Bacon. Seth is a photographer and his art is often a mix of photography and traditional or/and digital art. He has one of those hairless cats who is also named Seth :D Krimh is Austrian, and the youngest member of the band. He has worked and is currently working with other bands, including his own project by the same name where he does all the instruments. He could've been in Slpicknot too - but I'm glad they didn't take him from us :D He seems to prioritize Septicflesh the most. He joined them in 2017 since Codex Omega (Also a fucking badass album title) He is a TH-camr, and posts drum videos, and some other updates quite often. He also has a cat - a gigantic maine coon who kicks his ass every now and then. He posts the most on social media and seems to be the easiest to reach. I heard Sotiris can't travel cause he works at a bank, but I don't know how true that is. If it was, I'd be funny (and a bit sad), but it's probably bull. I don't know much about this man other than his great voice. His activity on social media is only recent. But one thing is for sure he seems to care a lot about his lyrics and the themes he writes, and strikes me as a very deep person. He used to have big curly hair when he was younger. He also dabbles in art, tho unlike Seth it is more 3D oriented, Last I heard he was making a 3D video for Psychohistory by Septicflesh. You can find his art on TH-cam, His Instagram, and his art station. he does models and animation. So I suppose his job is something along those lines and not a bank. Either that or he is trying to find work in art to run away from the bank and if that's the case - Give the man a job, so we can see him on tour ffs! :D I swear If I see Septicflesh with Sotiris, I can die knowing I lived. I love his voice so much! After Fortis - the OG drummer - left. Septicflesh did one show with Namtar from Charach Angren. - I thought that was just funny Trivia, as Carach Angren are one of my favorite bands too. I am totally not a fangirl with no life or anything.... hahaha .. ha... ha... h I'm a fan of many things, to be fair. Septicflesh is only one of my victims.
Good open-minded reaction. [ all the orchestric arangements and writing are from the members of the band. The song you heard is almost the same as in the original album recording not an "orchestrical version" (except from the intro). Is part of their original sound and of their songs (not like in the live of Metallica for example) plus, not something that it is added after to the song (like in most cases - if not all - of other such bands. The songs of other symphonic heavy bands can stand without the orchestra - it's mostly like an "added atmosphere" even when only the orchestra plays without the guitars or plays another harmony - in these songs of Septic Flesh no. Even this is the case with the best one extreme symphonic metal bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth, not with Septic Flesh. It is something different, the orchestra is not treated like an "atmosphere on the back" or even an "added harmony" (it's very organic part of the arrangement and final sound it self. One must hear very carefully their songs to understand better what i mean or it will be misunderstood, it is difficult to put it in words (or in few words). There is a subtle but very crucial difference that makes their sound unique from all other symphonic metal bands. It's not like heavy rock + classical music or metal music that wants to sound as classical music - like even the best ones of that kind as Therion. The songs can not stand by alone without the orchestra and vica versa. While in Cradle of Filth - for example - the orchestric parts can stand alone.. Septic Flesh sound it's something new... Of-caurse many that will try to copy them will come out and they already do this or they are very influenced / but most ppl don't know from where this exactly sound or elements originates and they think that these bands is something that play with some different approach or follow a "general stream", while they just (try to) copy Septic Flesh ) ].
I ignored this band for years based on their name, assumed they were another forgettable sludgy, generic death metal band, rotting christ is another example, poor name for what they sound like in my opinion, glad i eventually gave them a listen though
The same happened with me with both bands. Heard about them since the middle 90's and although I like normal death metal I had never the urge to check them...untilbI did some years ago.l
You are wrong.. these guys didnt go there and played together with an orchestra .. They always write all the orchestra parts and always record with full orchestras. This is not "metal" with an "orchestra" on top. Every instrument is very well placed.. that is why the guitars seem so simple.. because they usually are...
LOL ok. I literally read the video description as my source of information on my first time listening to them real time at the start of the video. I think I was pretty clear on my words about combining two different ensembles that normally don't play together and appreciating it when they do. Not sure what else to tell you.
There’s no need to be so aggressive though. Tony is someone that I imagine *does not* listen to symphonic death metal all that much. It’s a learning process especially with metal subgenres, so acting snobby about it really doesn’t help anyone.

The whole concert is a epic masterpiece.

My reaction when I saw this video come up: "Holy shit, he's doing a Septic Flesh song. Damn, dude, you're diving deep!"
This is a good song but if you really want crazy orchestration you need to listen to Enemy of Truth from the same show.
Anubis and Vampire of Nazareth equally good - the choirs ... especially the kid soloing on Nazereth.
All songs from album is perfect

The greatest death metal band of all times.

such an awesome band....the fifth member of the band is the orchestra
