The Bet Free Life Episode 3 brings a conversation about continued compulsion. Similar to the compulsion we had to gamble, but what do we do with it? Brian tells the story of taking money from his grandfather and using it to gamble. This had brought feelings of guilt and shame but through recovery, he has been able to forgive himself. Last a plea for the news media to cover gambling related harm in stories other than sensational financial crimes.

I live in Oklahoman, home to a caniso in every county. Go down i 35 to texas theres a caniso in every gas station that way.b last t8me i ch3ck3d there's 173 caniso in Oklahoma....i never gambled till i was in my late 40s and when i started i bet for 8 years straight. I finally took hold about year and a half ago i got 13 months nobets...then seven months i go i started back. Hopefully ill start over and stop again. Start to feel again have hope again. ❤

Im a gambling addict and im just starting my recovery.
I never thought I had a problem until I started taking out loans to pay my bills because I spent my pay check at the casino then took out loans for the casino to win back my money.
I would actually feel sick after I left the casino I knew I needed to stop.
So now im paying off loans and after that start saving my money.
Your prayers would be gladly appreciated.

I appreciate what you are doing. I am a compulsive gambler in recovery and appreciate you both sharing your stories. It helps, in the same way that going to meetings helps. But it's different and more accessible than meeting protocol, if you know what I mean. I believe gambling addiction is exploding in our society, from the legalization and marketing efforts of fantasy sports, sports betting, casinos, lotteries, cryptocurrency, etc.etc. this problem is only going to get worse. I am blessed to be bet free for a couple months now, but worry about so many others getting drawn into this addiction.

I am realizing I have a huge problem. I never thought it needed the same treatment all addictions need. I make cash driving cab and it's so bad I have had nites I did not know how I would pay cab rental! I know I need help. Casinos are new in my town and now I remember why I moved out of Neveda. Do I quit my job and get a paycheck job?

Nice podcast but I definitely don't approve of casinos. These joints aren't filled with occasional strangers playing for 20$. They are filled with the same people coming day in day out, trying to win back something of the life they lost. Gambling venues aren't built on 20$ strangers and it shouldn't be called gambling, it's should be called being sucked into giving money away. If it were gambling, you would win one time and the casino would win 5 times, instead they win 100 times and you win zero times. That is the truth.
