This lesson was put out seven years ago and it's still the most comprehensible break down of this timeless classic which gives us a great insight of how it was put together, excellent work Brian and many thanks.

Brian, this is the the best breakdown of this song I've seen so far. I'm a seasoned guitarist myself and had originally learned this from sheet music, but there was a lot missing from it. You've just filled in the dots and crossed the ti's. RESPECT. You're such an honest and dedicated musician, all us guitarist owe you a debt of gratitude. Many thanks thanks. James. SCOTLAND GREAT BRITAIN 👍👍👍👍👍

Brian, in your opening dialog you mention how this song is one of your favorite guitar compositions . Dire Straits released this song and album in 1978-79, I just graduated high school and was in my first year of college. I'm almost 60 years old now and this song is Still my desert island song! From the opening note to the ending note, it's still as fresh as the first time I heard it. Mark Knofler, I'm sure all will agree, is the most under rated guitar genius's to ever pluck a string. I've been playing this song since it came out , until I hooked up with this tutorial, about 90 minutes ago, I could never quite get the nuances of the riffs finely tuned.
Thanks to your patients and time put forth to make this easily understandable both audibly as well as visually, I appreciate the song even more. Mark Knoffler, one of the greatest guitar players ever. Brian Kelly, your a great teacher!! By the way....to every and anyone who reads this......1978---2020, 42 years this song has been Popular! My question to you the reader...in 2062, 42 years in the future, ??do you think Justin Bieber or Kanye East will still be relevant?? Can you name a Song by either of them??

Even Knofler doesn't play the rifts in this song exactly the same way each time. In one live video he does a break with muted strings. This was a very detailed and helpful breakdown, great job.

Nothing short of an amazing lesson! Unbelievable effort on Brian's part to put an hour lesson on video which must have took him many hours to compose it. Best guitar lesson on TH-cam IMO from start to finish on a difficult song to play as a beginner player. BY FAR THE BEST TUTORIAL ONLINE IF YOU WANT TO LEARN TO PLAY THIS SONG.

As well as being an excellent guitaist, you have an inbuilt knowledge of just where, and how, us learners would likely get stuck. Thank you so much for a really excellent tuition video of this song - it must have takenyou hours to put it all together. I'm 82, and started playing when I was 11, but have never got around to learning this song - until now, and with your help. Bless you, it's superb.

Man, this is great. I could watch you all day, Brian, I'm learning a lot. I'm an old x-hippie at 76 years young getting my jollies learning guitar. I like that it is very chord intense which is my shortcoming on trumpet. Every instrument has its own difficulties, I'm always amazed just thinking about it - even more amazed if I smoke first then think about it. Hey, just ordered my first electric guitar from Amazon, a Les Paul 335 by Grote with Maple brown color top. After half a century I'm pickin' up the guitar, wow, I love it like a lost love come back. Gotta go practice, can't wait to be good. Btw, I really dig your lessons. Subscribed. ciao.

Brian you are amazing to do all this work and give it away to anyone who might support your efforts, you are the best deal going on the internet, I've gotten a whole lot less from other teachers who can't teach what they are playing, and I don't mean to be knocking some of the great guitar players out there, but the truth is just that, they can't explain music theory in a way you need to, to understand it, so you just nod your head, so you don't want look stupid. Everything from True Fire to Lick Library, I've spent hundreds with them, to just get lost. The cage system is a must to understand song writing and lead composition. Thank You

Thank you for a very comprehensive approach to this complicated technique used bu Knoffler. Good teaching skills, I'll remember to use the middle finger on that part, lol! Also I noticed Knoffler likes to go to a C to Dsus4 D on that familiar goto riff after the stanzas,
