- Salutations! Today, I'll be discussing a classic Czech knife that's been around since the early 1900s. Mikov, the company has been around since 1794. It's one of the oldest knife makers I've ever seen! The Fish Knife used to have a wooden handle and a carbon blade. However, it now has a metal handle and a stainless 420 blade. The quality is absolutely OUTSTANDING for $8.50 CAD. I found this knife at Lee Valley Tools. They have a website, however, I am unsure as to whether or not they ship worldwide. In the meantime, I have to say, for my first Czech knife, this is a brilliant piece. Cheers!
Greetings from Czech Republic,
The knife has been in production for over a hundred years. In the Czech Republic (Mikov) and Slovakia (Sandrik). Thats many years ago in Czechoslovakia.
Today, manufactures only in the Czech Republic (Mikov). Some "handymans" modify these knives with wooden handles etc. They originally had a carbon steel blade, it holds sharpness better, but it rusted unless you havnt blade cleaned and lubricated carefully often. Today's knives have 420 stainless steel, but you just need to sharpen them more often.
But it can have different variations, for example one of collector's - blade of damascus steel and 24k-gold or silver plated handle but it's not that cheap anymore :D This knife is simply legendary at least in the Czech Republic and Slovaka. The original designer is unknown.
Im sorry for my English. Good work. Subscribed.
First, your English is better than many native English speakers! Second, I am very impressed by this knife and it's vast history. Sadly, I live in Canada. And we don't have a particularly rich knife culture here. Grohmann of Canada is our only real traditional brand. (Grohmann was founded by a Czech immigrant from a German region in Czechoslovakia!) So because of this, I always love hearing stories and such from other countries and cultures! Thanks for the comment! Cheers!
I remember when i was younger my friend showed me his knife and it was the same one as this
It sure is an icon!
Cheers!
I've always wanted one of these!
I'm not joking when I say it's one of the best, small knives I've ever had. Sure, it looks a lil' goofy, but it's whimsical and pretty in it's own way.
Yep, I like it too. Thanks for showing it.
No problem!
Love the channel and knife selection on your videos. I have one of these in the silver. Mine also has a strong back spring. Mikov also do really cheap Victorinox style knives at a very low price. A big plus for me is they have a fork tool for eating your lunch with on the go. Not as high quality as Victorinox but def worth the money. If you get chance check them out. Mercury also do this with their multi tool knives. Thanks for the content!
I have seen the SAK styled Mikovs, very nice! I agree Mercury makes some great ones, too! Thanks for the compliments! 😃 Cheers!
Nice, here in the Czech republic you can get them in any hardwarw store for about 6 canadian dollars, they're cool little knives i've got like 4 of 'em
If I could collect them more easily, I'd have 4, too! Cheers!
I have a collection of them. Great little backup
Nice! They absolutely are! Cheers!
What a cool little knife! Thanks for the look at it, buddy!
Glad you enjoyed it!
i have it and i use it as a knife for fishing when i catch the fish thats the tool for "ending the fish" i find this a very fitting role
Kind of morbid, but it is very fitting! These are awesome little folders, I'd suggest them to anyone. Cheers!
I got mine today, the opening is a bit gritty and grindy. The blade is also dull. But for the price, I really don't mind giving it a bit of TLC to get it working nice.
Huh, interesting. Mine came scary sharp and only needed a lil' oil to run smoothly. Regardless, the price could excuse this. Cheers!
Very neat
Truly!!
Rybička is first children's knife. :)
Makes sense. It's one of the least threatening knives out there! Plus, they're just great, usable, fun pieces! Cheers!
For me its a dollar more, but im planning on getting one, ahah
You'll enjoy it! Cheers!
Rybku nám deťom kupovali rodičia, nedalo sa nimi ublížiť ani sebe ani iným Nosili sme si ich do prírody keď sme pásli kravy , vyrezávali sme si píšťalky a na huby......
I got 1
Love it
I'm happy to hear that!
Cheers!
