So fun fact for you. The pc version of Nfs3 Hot Pursuit came with a basic car editor buried on the game disc. You could edit the vehicle mesh of existing cars, add and remove polys to create entirely new cars and import new textures for things like wheels. Despite the hard limit on poly count and car count, the community at the time got super creative. One of the best at it, Eric Arroyo got hired by EA as I remember. It was a fun time to be playing NFS.
Quick tip. If you wanted to play Hot Pursuit 2, find the PS2 version. It's the one that has better graphics and better gameplay, ESPECIALLY THE COPS. I'd love to see a separate video where you try it out sometime because that was the first NFS I ever played and I still love it to this day!

Actually the first step in the progression was NFS High Stakes which you missed. There you can complete Tournaments, buy cars, pay for repairs, race for pink slips it has a full on Carreer mode just without the story and for me is one of the coolest NFSs I've ever played. Yes it's old but better than that Cringebound story
Road & Track The Need for Speed was so much fun. They were all great for their time. I actually did play all of the Need for Speeds. No one will ever top Black Box, their isn't enough focus on NFS anymore.

Along the way I played the sequels one by one but among all the nfs games HP2, UG2, MW 05 and Carbon are my go to games of all time, they are and will always live inside my heart. Prostreet, Shift, HP 2010, The Run, MW 12, Rivals, NFS 15, Heat were amazing. I didn't like Undercover, shift2, Payback that much and I regret buying Unbound, to me it's the worst sequel for the franchise with worst car sounds and not having Supra, whereas other games have Supra lol. Fun fact: I still play NFS II and NFS III sometimes to this day.
My first NFS experience was Carbon. Like 12 years after its release. I found it in my dad's old closet at my grandma's. It was a physical copy of the pc version. After I fell in love with Carbon I got NFS 2015 and fell in love with the whole series. I've only played mw05, nfsc, 2015 and Heat.

Pink slip and Tournament racing in High Stakes as well as seeing the manufacturer evolution AND THE BEGINNING OF DECENT CAR CUSTOMIZATION (plus flipping auction cars for profit) in Porsche Unleashed was sweet for its time.
NFS Underground was my first one and is still my favorite one. Since then I've played all of them (well, maybe apart from Motor City Online), but none hit's me into the feels quite like the Underground.
Road and track does come with an option to have all the cars on the grid. You just need to pick "the pack" as opponents. Watching my brother play it while i was just a kid, i had to go back to it on an emulator. Also please play high stakes. That game is the original hot pursuit but better. And possibly my favorite of the old nfs followed by NFS 2
It was either underground or underground 2, the only NFS to ever introduce nos purge. It was hot pursuit 2 i used to play, but it was underground that really exposed me to NFS. back then, i fell in love. But being able to purge your nos felt awesome.
I believe Underground 1 had it BUT it didn't replenish the tank once you banked the style points. Nitrous was a one tank and done ordeal in that game. Underground 2 allowed you to purge whenever you were stopped (or possibly off throttle or neutral) and you could refill with style points or overfill for a larger, more powerful shot.

When in reality it stabilizes the pressure. It was an awesome feature that should've never left. But the way the NFS franchise is going, i dont ever see it back again.
The original the need for speed I loved. The cops when they pulled you over had some interesting dialogue. One line that I remember part of it was "you better start growing some antenni because I just caught myself my first UFO" something along those lines.

So I would be doing the same like 4 levels over and over and over again. And just doing quick races over and over again. Until I found out the controls, it felt like another universe. And still today im playing every NFS game that releases but one big memory of mine in this series is that one all the way in the beginning for me.

If you already have Dosbox set up, maybe try Screamer or Network Q RAC Rally Championship. Or if you feel adventurous, Street Rod. All my favourites from that time, clunky but with soul that is often missed in modern games.

High Stakes or Road Challenge in Europe, 1999. I got it as a christmas present. The cover was bright red and featured a message from Siba (old swedish electronic store that sadly went out of business.) Funny story, when I had a birthday party I got yet ANOTHER example of High Stakes from one of my friends. That's how popular the game was in Sweden.
My first Need for Speed was NFS3 Hot Pursuit, it's what got me started on it all but also got NFSII shortly after, love the old games. The ticket system in NFS3 is you get one more chance than you have laps iirc. So as you saw, 3 tickets for 2 laps, 4 tickets for 3 laps and so on (can't remember what lap options there were).
NFS 2 SE was the first video game I ever played. I have incredibly fond memories of that game. The car list was very interesting. Anyone remember the Italdesign Cala and Isdera Commendatore 112i? The cheat codes were also hilarious
entered the franchise with NFS: HP1 (i was a kiddo) didn't own the game, i got to play it on the desktop from my uncle :) years later i got Porsche Unleashed which started a yearly purchase (almost anyway) UG1(i was hooked), UG2(couldn't stop playing), MW(Same deal), Carbon(couldn't stop playing), ProStreet(Noticed i didn't like it as much), HP2(Back to the good ol), Shift(First time sim), Shift 2(meh), The Run(Noice), Undercover(Wtf?), MW 2012(Nostalgia), NFS 2015(i don't want to stop!), Payback(lacking something but what?), Unbound(did 7 races and was done) in that order.
I’ll never forget the first time I played the original NFS shortly after release, I was hooked immediately. My all time favorite in the series is definitely Porsche Unleashed though - I will never stop hoping for another game like that. Doesn’t have to be Porsche, I just love the way it played.
I prefer underground to underground 2 as well i feel its often overlooked because the lack of freeroam but the vibe and i suppose the nostalgia and sound tracks for the 1st one is unrivalled imo. But both are legendary and great for different reasons all down to preference and nostalgia attached to it.
I still have NFS 1 on ps1 with the manual which is ''only'' at 192 pages. I probably spent the most time on NFS Hp 2 for the ps2 which is very different from the pc version, countless hours spent with cop chases and the viper was fun to use in that game.

no. road & track presents the need for speed had cop chases. it also had three 15+ mile point-to-point open-road races where said cops would chase you. the closed tracks in the game arent even the main focus.

Still didn’t play 2 or high stakes unfortunately. 2 doesn’t really offer much compared to the first nfs so I get skipping it. Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit on PC was my first NFS game and had so many awesome memories as a kid, especially the Hot Pursuit events. I would also recommend checking out NFS High Stakes. One of the earliest NFS games to have performance upgrades and the cars also get visual upgrades when you upgrade your car to a higher tier on the PC version. NFS Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 version is also worth checking out as the graphics and handling are different from the Xbox, PC, and GameCube version since Blackbox developed the PS2 version and EA Seattle worked on Xbox, PC, and GameCube versions.
Hot Pursuit 2 on the Gamecube was my first need for speed and damn did I play that game way too much as a kid. I remember getting Underground and being like "Yep, this is now going to define the rest of my life".

Porsche Unleashed/Porsche 2000 was the gamee man it had proper controls mixed between arcade and simulation for it's time. Anyone who's going to watch some old videos on youtube will see automatically the difference.
I recently played it on PS2 and quit because when I got to when the helicopter started dropping barrels and shooting missiles, I was done. The races are already long. And to top this off....nah man.
My firsh ever exposure to the series was with Underground 1, but the first game I ever really played was nfs Porsche I remember that in '03 or maybe early '04 one of my older cousins brought Underground to our house, and installed it on our family computer. I vaguely remember watching him (and maybe my older sister, since it was in her room, and really her computer, which I wasn`t allowed to touch) play the game on a few occasions, and I though it was really cool, though I don`t have too many memories of the game from that time, other than bits of gameplay, the main menu, and `lil Jon, of course. I was around 7 or 8 and didn`t see too much, so memories are vague. My first ever 1st hand experience with the series was with NFS Porsche, in about '06. My sister bought a few used PC games, and NFS Porsche was one of them. I played the crap out of that game... Going through the evolution campaign, than through the test driver campaign; driving through each of the 13 tracks with no AI pretending I was on a road trip, only to than go through the reverse layouts in reverse order, pretending I was driving back home, and 99% of the time I`d play exclusively in cockpit view... It was my favourite game at the time, and is near and dear to my heart to this day. I than experience NFS Underground for myself some time later, via a classmate who lent, and eventually sold me his copy of the game for pretty cheap. I also loved the game, but I never actually beat it, in part because I struggled with later races, in part because I found the tracks to feel pretty similar to each other, and in part because we`d start sharing games amongst ourselves that had been acquired through alternate means, and it wasn`t too long before a "DRM free" version of Underground 2 came into my posession via a USB drive, and later MW and Carbon as well... Between those methods and starting to sail the high seas myself to procure more games, I played every mainline NFS game from NFS Porsche upto (but not including) NFS THE RUN and NFS Hot Pursuite remake, since my PC couldn't run them. I fell of the series at that point, until Heat dropped anyway (Which I bought legit copies of, like 3 times)
My first need for speed game that I played was NFS 2 hot pursuit (pc) but just for a short time then I got nfs underground 1 and that was the game that started all the love for the need for speed franchise for me , nfs u 1 has a special place in my heart and I could play that game over and over again without getting bored of it , I admit I didn't grew up with nfs mw 2005 but I had some friends from my childhood that played the hell out of that game , still friends to this day and all still loving this franchise (I played a lil mw 2005 on their pc's at that time though 😄). The other ones I played them later on like wayyy later on bc I didn't had the possibility to play them back then. Btw I hope you consider making a nfs u 1 walkthrough at some point ! 👉👈 😄
Theo, if you ever decide to play Hot Pursuit 2 again, make sure you play the PS2 version as it’s the best version of Hot Pursuit 2 since it’s the one that was developed by BlackBox. The other versions were developed by EA Seattle I think.
the ps2 version of hot pursuit 2 was developed by blackbox but all other versions were developed by ea seattle, the blackbox version has different handling and physics.
Fun little fact, Need For Speed 4 aka Need For Speed High Stakes was actually the first game that had any sort of progression to it, actually. The game is however pretty forgettable because it's essentially just Hot Pursuit but with a bunch of more cars, some progression and maybe a few more tracks. The game had a fairly basic career system where you could buy cars and upgrade them, and with each upgrade, your car looked more and more like a racecar. You also needed to repair your car after every race as well if you took some damage, otherwise your performance would be affected severely. The game was also the first game to have pink slip races as well where you could actually lose your car if you lost, so there's that too.
You should play the Wii version of Hot Pursuit 2010 next, feature wise its actually better than the flagship version because it has actual customisation with body kits.
NFS III at Lan parties playing knockout was super fun and something else. You lost you got a truck for the next race, and then the road block wars started. Not the same replaying the game alone years later tbh.
I spent so much time on hot pursuit 2. It was the first NFS and the only game on my PC for the longest time. That game is the reason i love the elise and the CLK-GTR

One thing to note is that the PC, Xbox and GameCube version of Hot Pursuit 2 were developed by EA Seattle and the PS2 version was developed by EA Blackbox, the PS2 version is far better than the one you played here.
When i get a ps3 im buying all the old nfs games i should still have hot pursuit in storage hopefully. Been playing 2015,ruvals and replaying heat to try and appreciate what we have and are probably gonna be left with sadly. 2015 is such a vibe the boost gauge i forgot was in underground is such a just simple addon but it makes a big difference in the feel since we have no cockpit. I hope next year we get some good additions to unbound probably not but man i hate the default speedometer in unbound so just lame we can't even change the colors. EA is never gonna give them what they need to make a good game in the way things work in the gaming industry I really hope somehow they can sell the franchise to someone that cares but nobody does ugh.
My first NFS was Most Wanted in the year it launched. It was such a thrill 🤩 Up to that point, I was used to play Gran Turismo which is very slow in comparison. After that, I backtracked. Played Underground 2 and then 1. After that, I played Carbon, Pro Street, Undercover and World. I stopped there because I couldn't afford the PS3. When I got a decent PC (about 5 years ago), I managed to play the pre-Underground NFSs and The Run. I don't really like the old ones but I adored The Run. The newest one I played was NFS 2015. It was a weird experience 😅
I think the dawn era games are probably the best candidates for a remaster. Especially stuff like Porsche unleashed and the earlier hot pursuit titles.

Porsche unleashed 2000 is special for sure and with its UI, music and vintage Porsche point to point races, Unleashed is on podium still today timeless. NFSU Proper fully fledged customisation yes looks stunning NFSU with NFSU2 where did the Porsche go. That intro guy 🤙 A fellow of mine had nfs Unleashed, Hot Pursuit 2, C&C Red Alert 2 and Generals! What an era of gaming! NFSU was the reason I bought a Playstation2! 🤙
You need to play NFS HP2 on PS2 version. That is the only version developed by Black Box. It's a completely different and superior game to the other versions

Frankly, if you go over the series. Get the PS2 version of Hot Pursuit 2 however means you can, it's the version actually made by blackbox, and was the main version worked on. It's feel and presentation is much better than the others imo. It's also the game I started NFS with.

I started out on UG2 and then at a sale i brought UG1 and HP. And then when most wanted came out i got that for my birthday. My parents weren't the biggest video game fans. So I didn't really get too have a lot of games.
NFSHP2 on the PS2 is one of my favourites and easily in my top 5 nfs games, I still have a copy of it and I would rather play that than any of the nfs games released nowadays, I started to fall off the nfs games when Criterion took over with NFSHP
You needa play Hot Pursuit 2 on a PS2 or PCSX2 cuz the PC version doesn’t even compare. The physics are more realistic on the PS2 version, the PC version makes the cars feel way too light.

The ticket system in NFS3 is you get one more chance than you have laps iirc. So as you saw, 3 tickets for 2 laps, 4 tickets for 3 laps and so on (can't remember what lap options there were).
NFS 2 SE was the first video game I ever played. I have incredibly fond memories of that game. The car list was very interesting. Anyone remember the Italdesign Cala and Isdera Commendatore 112i? The cheat codes were also hilarious
Imo the ps2 version of HP2 is the best way to play HP2 but it’s still cool to see these older nfs games being talked about and played! 😄
entered the franchise with NFS: HP1 (i was a kiddo) didn't own the game, i got to play it on the desktop from my uncle :)
years later i got Porsche Unleashed which started a yearly purchase (almost anyway)
UG1(i was hooked), UG2(couldn't stop playing), MW(Same deal), Carbon(couldn't stop playing), ProStreet(Noticed i didn't like it as much), HP2(Back to the good ol), Shift(First time sim), Shift 2(meh), The Run(Noice), Undercover(Wtf?), MW 2012(Nostalgia), NFS 2015(i don't want to stop!), Payback(lacking something but what?), Unbound(did 7 races and was done) in that order.
I’ll never forget the first time I played the original NFS shortly after release, I was hooked immediately.
My all time favorite in the series is definitely Porsche Unleashed though - I will never stop hoping for another game like that. Doesn’t have to be Porsche, I just love the way it played.
I prefer underground to underground 2 as well i feel its often overlooked because the lack of freeroam but the vibe and i suppose the nostalgia and sound tracks for the 1st one is unrivalled imo. But both are legendary and great for different reasons all down to preference and nostalgia attached to it.
I still have NFS 1 on ps1 with the manual which is ''only'' at 192 pages. I probably spent the most time on NFS Hp 2 for the ps2 which is very different from the pc version, countless hours spent with cop chases and the viper was fun to use in that game.
*When people say "Ackchyually, originally Need For Speed was all about the cop chases." they clearly never played Road & Track Presents: The Need for Speed which was a track racer.*

no. road & track presents the need for speed had cop chases. it also had three 15+ mile point-to-point open-road races where said cops would chase you. the closed tracks in the game arent even the main focus.
underground is where i entered the series of need for speeds but unfortunately unbound is where i leave nfs for good.. tbh with the games now days i kind of thinking about selling my pc and giving up gaming all together...
Never thought I’d see the day black panthaa played the classic era nfs games. Still didn’t play 2 or high stakes unfortunately. 2 doesn’t really offer much compared to the first nfs so I get skipping it. Hopefully pants covers high stakes at some point just highlighting that games progression for a video. I think going back just shows how dry the racing game climate is at the moment for real…

Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit on PC was my first NFS game and had so many awesome memories as a kid, especially the Hot Pursuit events. I would also recommend checking out NFS High Stakes. One of the earliest NFS games to have performance upgrades and the cars also get visual upgrades when you upgrade your car to a higher tier on the PC version. NFS Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 version is also worth checking out as the graphics and handling are different from the Xbox, PC, and GameCube version since Blackbox developed the PS2 version and EA Seattle worked on Xbox, PC, and GameCube versions.
Hot Pursuit 2 on the Gamecube was my first need for speed and damn did I play that game way too much as a kid.
I remember getting Underground and being like "Yep, this is now going to define the rest of my life".
My first NFS game was Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 3 and my favorite car to use on that was the Lamborghini Diablo and favorite track was Aquatica.
i found out about NFS from a most wanted ad back in 2005 but actually started through 2 SE (one of the best of pre underground games)

Porsche Unleashed/Porsche 2000 was the gamee man it had proper controls mixed between arcade and simulation for it's time. Anyone who's going to watch some old videos on youtube will see automatically the difference.
My first NFS was Hot Pursuit 2. You should play the PS2 version, it was developed by Black Box and was considered superior to the other versions
I recently played it on PS2 and quit because when I got to when the helicopter started dropping barrels and shooting missiles, I was done. The races are already long. And to top this off....nah man.
My firsh ever exposure to the series was with Underground 1, but the first game I ever really played was nfs Porsche
I remember that in '03 or maybe early '04 one of my older cousins brought Underground to our house, and installed it on our family computer. I vaguely remember watching him (and maybe my older sister, since it was in her room, and really her computer, which I wasn`t allowed to touch) play the game on a few occasions, and I though it was really cool, though I don`t have too many memories of the game from that time, other than bits of gameplay, the main menu, and `lil Jon, of course. I was around 7 or 8 and didn`t see too much, so memories are vague.
My first ever 1st hand experience with the series was with NFS Porsche, in about '06. My sister bought a few used PC games, and NFS Porsche was one of them. I played the crap out of that game... Going through the evolution campaign, than through the test driver campaign; driving through each of the 13 tracks with no AI pretending I was on a road trip, only to than go through the reverse layouts in reverse order, pretending I was driving back home, and 99% of the time I`d play exclusively in cockpit view... It was my favourite game at the time, and is near and dear to my heart to this day.
I than experience NFS Underground for myself some time later, via a classmate who lent, and eventually sold me his copy of the game for pretty cheap. I also loved the game, but I never actually beat it, in part because I struggled with later races, in part because I found the tracks to feel pretty similar to each other, and in part because we`d start sharing games amongst ourselves that had been acquired through alternate means, and it wasn`t too long before a "DRM free" version of Underground 2 came into my posession via a USB drive, and later MW and Carbon as well... Between those methods and starting to sail the high seas myself to procure more games, I played every mainline NFS game from NFS Porsche upto (but not including) NFS THE RUN and NFS Hot Pursuite remake, since my PC couldn't run them. I fell of the series at that point, until Heat dropped anyway (Which I bought legit copies of, like 3 times)
My first need for speed game that I played was NFS 2 hot pursuit (pc) but just for a short time then I got nfs underground 1 and that was the game that started all the love for the need for speed franchise for me , nfs u 1 has a special place in my heart and I could play that game over and over again without getting bored of it , I admit I didn't grew up with nfs mw 2005 but I had some friends from my childhood that played the hell out of that game , still friends to this day and all still loving this franchise (I played a lil mw 2005 on their pc's at that time though 😄). The other ones I played them later on like wayyy later on bc I didn't had the possibility to play them back then. Btw I hope you consider making a nfs u 1 walkthrough at some point ! 👉👈 😄
Theo, if you ever decide to play Hot Pursuit 2 again, make sure you play the PS2 version as it’s the best version of Hot Pursuit 2 since it’s the one that was developed by BlackBox. The other versions were developed by EA Seattle I think.

the ps2 version of hot pursuit 2 was developed by blackbox but all other versions were developed by ea seattle, the blackbox version has different handling and physics.
Hot pursuit was my first game...😂 One of the best nfs game ever, insane cops and crazy games with family. Good times
Fun little fact, Need For Speed 4 aka Need For Speed High Stakes was actually the first game that had any sort of progression to it, actually. The game is however pretty forgettable because it's essentially just Hot Pursuit but with a bunch of more cars, some progression and maybe a few more tracks.
The game had a fairly basic career system where you could buy cars and upgrade them, and with each upgrade, your car looked more and more like a racecar. You also needed to repair your car after every race as well if you took some damage, otherwise your performance would be affected severely. The game was also the first game to have pink slip races as well where you could actually lose your car if you lost, so there's that too.
I entered Need for Speed Hotpursuit 2, I loved it, had 2 favourite cars the Diablo and Ferrari F50
You should play the Wii version of Hot Pursuit 2010 next, feature wise its actually better than the flagship version because it has actual customisation with body kits.
NFS III at Lan parties playing knockout was super fun and something else. You lost you got a truck for the next race, and then the road block wars started. Not the same replaying the game alone years later tbh.
I spent so much time on hot pursuit 2. It was the first NFS and the only game on my PC for the longest time. That game is the reason i love the elise and the CLK-GTR

One thing to note is that the PC, Xbox and GameCube version of Hot Pursuit 2 were developed by EA Seattle and the PS2 version was developed by EA Blackbox, the PS2 version is far better than the one you played here.
When i get a ps3 im buying all the old nfs games i should still have hot pursuit in storage hopefully. Been playing 2015,ruvals and replaying heat to try and appreciate what we have and are probably gonna be left with sadly. 2015 is such a vibe the boost gauge i forgot was in underground is such a just simple addon but it makes a big difference in the feel since we have no cockpit. I hope next year we get some good additions to unbound probably not but man i hate the default speedometer in unbound so just lame we can't even change the colors. EA is never gonna give them what they need to make a good game in the way things work in the gaming industry I really hope somehow they can sell the franchise to someone that cares but nobody does ugh.
My first NFS was Most Wanted in the year it launched. It was such a thrill 🤩 Up to that point, I was used to play Gran Turismo which is very slow in comparison.
After that, I backtracked. Played Underground 2 and then 1. After that, I played Carbon, Pro Street, Undercover and World.
I stopped there because I couldn't afford the PS3. When I got a decent PC (about 5 years ago), I managed to play the pre-Underground NFSs and The Run.
I don't really like the old ones but I adored The Run.
The newest one I played was NFS 2015. It was a weird experience 😅

Porsche unleashed 2000 is special for sure and with its UI, music and vintage Porsche point to point races, Unleashed is on podium still today timeless. NFSU Proper fully fledged customisation yes looks stunning NFSU with NFSU2 where did the Porsche go. That intro guy 🤙

You need to play NFS HP2 on PS2 version. That is the only version developed by Black Box. It's a completely different and superior game to the other versions

Frankly, if you go over the series. Get the PS2 version of Hot Pursuit 2 however means you can, it's the version actually made by blackbox, and was the main version worked on. It's feel and presentation is much better than the others imo. It's also the game I started NFS with.
Ah yeah, NFS3 HP is the NFS' Brake to Drift mechanic from Blackbox.

Hot Pursuit 2 is my 2nd fave NFS game still. I must have put 1000 hours on it.
I started out on UG2 and then at a sale i brought UG1 and HP. And then when most wanted came out i got that for my birthday. My parents weren't the biggest video game fans. So I didn't really get too have a lot of games.
NFSHP2 on the PS2 is one of my favourites and easily in my top 5 nfs games, I still have a copy of it and I would rather play that than any of the nfs games released nowadays, I started to fall off the nfs games when Criterion took over with NFSHP

You needa play Hot Pursuit 2 on a PS2 or PCSX2 cuz the PC version doesn’t even compare. The physics are more realistic on the PS2 version, the PC version makes the cars feel way too light.
