This game glorifies what no other nfs ever has: the cars. From the extra videos & voiceovers, to the ignition sounds (which you can do in game, it allows you to shutoff your engine!), to the incredible graphical and sound quality, it makes you fall in love with these machines. It's also no surprise how most if not all of the cars present in HP evolved to be timeless art pieces irl. I really miss this amount of detail in today's games, the only one who puts effort into car detail now is Gran Turismo, a shame truly.
Great video and observations, most people gloss over these details 🙏

The simplicity in hot pursuit is something I miss in the sreies, which makes hot pursuit 2010 my favorite nfs in the franchise as a whole.

You're spot on with describing the backdrops and scenery of Seacrest County. Even though some people complained about mountain cliffs, beach paradises, barren deserts & redwood forests within spitting distance of each other. I just didn't care because of how masterfully crafted it was.
It's something that Forza Motorsport 3 & 4 also did a great job with when it came to their fictional tracks like Fujimi Kaido, Rally di Positano, Camino Viejo de Montserrat & Bernese Alps.
Black Box also did a pretty good job with this with their open worlds like Underground 2's Bayview, Most Wanted's Rockport, Carbon's Palmont & even Prostreet's tracks.

Thank you for being one of the only YTers that actually acknowledges the existence of the games before the Underground series - it is laughable how many members of the community outright ignore them, and this is even worse because these are the people the devs listen to. These days, I'm really starting to think that allowing customization beyond paintjobs was a complete mistake for the series. HP2010 and Rivals really were the last of their kind to carry the original SPIRIT of NFS, even if both of them had a good amount of imperfections.
I hope that Criterion DOESN'T listen to the UG and MW crowd for once, and instead makes another game like HP/Rivals, or even maybe a remaster of one of the first 6 games in the series. But I think the answer is already set in stone to be the opposite.

i mean, technically, there is an upgrade system, but it only applies to the pursuit tech, and the upgrades just improve it, theres no extra shit added on to them, Spike strips get longer and you can deploy 2 at once, EMP's do more damage, Turbos last longer and give more boost. Helicopter gives it more fuel, more spike strips, and the ability to follow the chase even when theres a tunnel, and so on.

NFS HP2010 along with Rivals are my favourite NFS games. The feel and aura of HP2010 is something that hasn't been recreated to this day, drifting a Sesto Elemento and then instantly hitting turbo on the straight is just satisfying as it is always hearing Edge Of The Earth on the starting screen, Criterion literally achieved perfection with this game considering that this was the last great NFS game at all grounds. This is why I really love the fact that EA chose this to remaster it. It easily brings back alot of those memories.

By the time I got a PS4, I got rivals next because it itched the same spot the mobile HP did all those years ago. And then I bought the remastered to come full circle. Unfortunaley EA wants NFS to be the horizon clone for maximum player retention. Also the people who made these passionate games like HP, underground 1-2 and MW probably aren't even in the business anymore. And even if they would.. all the executives want empty, soulless open worlds where the the most exciting thing happening there is some duck flying around.

      @keegangossett2896 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Well NFS isn’t trying to be a Forza Horizon Clone. That’s the Crew. NFS is trying to be an illegal street racing and car culture game like the Underground-Most wanted era and fell on its face when EA kept shutting down its studios or pulling the developers working on NFS to work on Battlefield because apparently their main developers aren’t competent enough to make a good working game anymore without help from racing game developers.

    • @tyrestyco964

@@keegangossett2896 Excuse me bud, but unbound has the exact same open world content than horizon games, I tried playing payback too and oh boy is it trying to be a mixed clone of the crew and horizon it's not even funny anymore. As Moses said. They thank god for that.. failed miserably with the clone approach.
Meanwhile you are also right. EA focuses soley on their battlefield games hence all the devs from the other studios suffering, but in the end the executives make the decision to keep forcing their devs to create horizon since it's the only franchise pulling numbers. God knows why since horizon 5 sucks.
They are all trying to be the next horizon. Thats the core of all the failures. Even TDU solar crown (the very last hope of the whole genre ) tries it. It's just sad.

NFSHP is *150% pure adrenaline. With 25% chaos ans 25% skill* and its is super fun. I constantly play events like *hotting up, unreasonable force, blacklisted, hunted, calm before the storm, etc* for my direct injection of *adrenaline* ! And the cars. I have *fallen in love* with them. Most notably: the Gumpert Apollo S in the police side. 0-360 km/h in 10 seconds. Even the idea of *multi class hot pursuit events* like super series cars below $150,000 vs speed enforcement units above $300,000 or special respone units vs exotics from start to finish!
    *Oh the fun*

I can only agree! There has never ever been another series quite like Hot Pursuit/Rivals. And currently, there are zero games that scratch that itch. I also come back to this game years and years later. You hit the nail on the head, when you say the key is the developer's "passion". It's just obvious. The only thing is that I do think the soundtracks from the 90s NFS games were quite significantly better than 2010's (except for the originally comosed music). Having music originally composed for the game is far superior.

I wholeheartedly agree with your description of what makes HP2010 incredible and the broader point that racing games have stopped focusing about the actual racing. It’s something KuruHS and Raycevik have also pointed out, modern racing games have started focusing on industry trends and gimmicks to make their games stand out instead of actually crafting an enjoyable and foundational racing experience (especially games that focus on online). Grinding, car collecting, customisation, “super accurate simulation”, team building or whatever else, all of these features are consistently not integrated well enough into the experience to justify the implementation, there really isn’t a single modern game out that just has an enjoyable racing experience, for racing sake (except Wreckfest)

But objectively speaking, it is one of the pillars of modern racing, just for how unique its cop vs racer combat racing is. Be honest what was the last cop v racer combat racing game you remember? Just to be clear i love the underground games, most wanted ect. But for me Hot Pursuit IS Need For Speed. I grew up playing NFS Porsche 2000 (also known as NFS 5 or Porsche Unleashed) and i loved that game, it sparked my love for cars, racing, games, music and the franchise as a whole, it really shaped my interests for the future. Then for a long time growing up I didn’t really get to play the new nfs games since i had a Wii, think i did play a bit of Nitro and Prostreet though. But it all changed when i got my Xbox 360, i picked up Shift 2 and most importantly Hot Pursuit 2010, that game was basically my first real mainline NFS experience in years and i adored it, seriously i thought it looked amazing and it was so much fun to play, i loved the intro with Edge of the earth blasting in the background. That game properly reintroduced me to the franchise. Eventhough i love the blackbox games, honestly i didn’t know they even existed for the majority of my childhood, i knew NFS Porsche and Hot Persuit and deep down in my heart they are still the quintessential Need For Speed games for me. (Well basically everything before underground 1, love that game tho wow)

This, this right here was the best choice for a remaster. its simple yet not. I love the game for its car roster (the username might give that away huh) and scenery. god damn do i wish the place was real, cause even in its poly like form its breathtaking. its not unflawed, but its a better buy than the so called new era of racing games. i absolutely loved this video, and the different sections you covered. I pretty much agree with all the points mentioned in it. I hope to see more videos like this in the future. Easily one of my favourite need for speeds, i had high expectations before going into this one, since hot pursuit 2 was one of ny faves back then, and boy did it deliver. Even with the lack of customization and replayibilty (from my experience), i still find this game to be a challenging and rewarding experience that differentiates itself from the older classics. Would recommend this and Rivals to anyone who's exhausted through the classics and wants more pursuit action.

But I always found myself playing hot pursuit more than GT5 because it was so fun!!! 14 years later this video was recommended, I watched it and because of this video I'm now playing the remastered version on my PS5. Thanks for reminding me of this gem!!!

Personally, the one race that sticks with me, and probably will for a looong time, is "Born in the USA" from the Racer campaign, which is a draft battle, but that feels like it is the most intense race in the game for me, as you generally never really "shake off" your opponents, you keep battling it out on an insanely long but intense highway. Also, it's a battle between 3 awesome cars: the Ford GT, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the Dodge Viper SRT ACR (my personnal favorite, by far).
Finally, the soundtrack of the game is indeed, very unique for me, of course, 30 seconds to mars being "THE" track most people remember, by my personnal favorites are the two made by Klaxons, which is a group that looked promising.
All in all, a great video, on a great game !

I fully agree with you about Seacrest. Not only is the map diverse, but it also calls back to classic NFS tracks. Farmland, forests, coastal roads, winding mountain roads, desert, etc. Racing exotic cars in exotic locations is NFS at its best.
Also, I love that they brought back the brochure reader for all the cars. NFS3 was the game that really got me into cars as a kid. Checking out the car showcase menu with the dude telling me how cool each car is really drove the point home.

There's so much dead space when going from event to event in Horizon 5, and there are no set pieces for lack of a better word. The world in Hot Pursuit is memorable. You always know where you are.

I’ve always thought need for speed lives in two different timelines, the tuner and obnoxious racing timeline, and the exotic semi serious racing timeline, games like rivals, MW 2012, hot pursuit 3, as bad or good as they are, they route back to those ps1 and dos games, I remember having this wakeup back when I was about 7 and my father installed Porsche unleashed in my computer, I was confused because I never knew that side of nfs until then but it has left a permanent mark in my life 😂

When you were talking about the simplicity of Hot Pursuit 2010 and how it's not overwhelming with many things it made me think of Most Wanted 2012. It was also simple and fun but it received so much more hate than Hot Pursuit. I mean, I get it, they probably received the hate just for the name from the old NFS gamers, but I will defend that game. Spent so many hours just driving around or racing or looking for cars and billboards or trying to launch myself as high as possible in the airport.

Hot Pursuit is definitely THE game that marked my childhood. I remember when my dad had just bought a ps3, bringing me this car racing video game. I remember going slowly and being afraid of the police in my very first gameplay, but the next day, proudly telling my dad how i had managed to win a race for the first time. And then started an endless cycle of hours upon hours of playing, I think I should total about 2000 hours on this game including the remaster.
No other game has felt as homely as the sheer brutal racing action this game offers, and it’s to this day what i look out for most in my games.
Because of the lack of upgrades it’s definitely the best multiplayer in recent nfs. Winning will quite literally almost always depend on skill or experience. No op Regera or player flying away in the lead in a power build. Everyone gets the exact same chances and it’s up to the best player to find their way to victory.
I’m thankful to Hot Pursuit for having accompagnied me in periods of my life which have been pretty lonely. I have had other games which i loved or hated with more passion, but none ever brought me back with as much passion years later.

Too bad nobody talks about the even more finer details. Like how you can turn off your engine and some cars actually have a unique start up sound. Or how the difference between the racer career and cop career. In the menus it's not just simply "racer career" or "cop career", in the driver details tab they're actually referred as "rap sheet" and "service record" or the leveling name racers have "levels" while cops "ranks". Or when you choose a location, racers have "select race location" while cops have "select police district". Very small details that many don't notice or just don't care, but I think they're neat.

This has to be the best entry in the series, that most people who played NFS during the 2000s will probably refuse to play, and/or give credit to.
It's another good experience where you can pick up and play, that also gives you enough room to become better while constantly putting your abilities to the test, and to me, it leaves me with a sense of melancholy when I see folks, both from within and outside the motorsport sphere, that seem to ignore this game, at least, those within my own circle anyways.
In the end, I'm starting to feel like this is probably the best modern nfs game that most individuals refuse to play, whatever the motive for it is.

After watching this video I installed the game for the 1st time. I'm so awestruck right now.
Like many here I have a long "player career" in racing games, but NFS was always the series that I sort of abandoned off after NFS Underground 2, when it started becoming too much style and less substance. I had recently installed NFS The Run, and was pleasantly surprised, but this is on another level. First of all it's crazy how much this exudes Burnout 2 vibes from every pore. This sort of feels like the "high tech, real life cars" sequel that I always wished Burnout 2 had had instead of where that series went with the "easy gratuitous spectacle of takedowns" and then when it veered towards open world with Paradise. This feels so much like a labor of love from the people that made Burnout 2 (I'm just saying this without knowing if it's actually true or not).
There's so much that surprised me here in terms of getting the basics right as well, like:
    - The game defaulting to my ancient preferred control scheme of right stick to accelerate and brake, as if by magic!?
    - The menus being fast, simple and easy to navigate
    - Having a car of each class that I can drive in free-roam straight from the get go
    - The HUD being exquisitely minimal (for an arcade racing game at least), with all the hud action neatly tucked away on the bottom sides and with the proper respect shown to leaving the view of the road gloriously unobstructed (how almost every racing game fails at this by filling the center top of the screen with text popups is still something I don't understand)
With the HUD off mod, this might just have instantly become my new favorite "cruise through a gorgeous landscape at high speeds" game.
This makes me question what other games in the Franchise I may have overlooked.
