I saw the thumbnail and thought, "Not another melted connector." It's good to see the NVidia can come up with new and innovative ways for a $1,600 GPU to self-destruct.

That's their best way. It will be the same for the next $2,600 GPU and for the brand new $3,600 GPU

I have 4090 and did dust cleaning recently so I looked at connectors and stuff and card is like new, I do not have any issues. I do not even have big clearance between side panel and card. Zero issues. Only extra step what I am doing is verifying card installation with thermal camera and some stress testing. But I did that even with 3080 ti, because 450w small consumer electronics is insane.

This is what happens when you have a piece of electronics drawing almost as much power as a microwave oven.

The problem isnt nvidia or the card. Yes the card is a beast but there is no point running it at 100% all the time. If people used frame caps in their games (which they should because of monitor refresh rates and such) this wouldnt happen. I run minecraft with my 3060 with max settings and SEUS path tracing shaders at 60 fps vsync and most of the time it doesnt even draw 100 watts (its max power draw is 175W). If i didnt cap my fps it would max out at 175W and run at 10fps more with occasional stutters. Is that worth it?

I am sure who ever designed that connector no longer has a job at NVIDIA

Shoutout to you, Tony!!! You've just elevated yourself to a whole new level! This is no longer GPU repair, this is GPU transplant & reconstruction! There are no limits for you, apparently! Keep it going!!! You truly deserve all the success and recognition!! On top of your mad electronic skills, the video editing with that calming and soothing music in the background made what I'm sure was challenge hours of work look like "just another day in the office" for you!

Considering this is your first attempt at such a repair I am very impressed ! You demonstrate the knowledge, skills and adaptability required to be a most excellent tech. You undertake tasks that many technicians would shy away from. I am ‘old school’ and like to repair equipment, even if truly not economic in terms of labour time. I loved the way you approached this challenge. In case you are interested, PACE did a series of videos (I think they are on TH-cam) on repairing PCB’s that shows the use of Dremel-like tools and epoxy in-fill techniques. PACE made the tools for repairing all manner of PCB damage as way back then the PCB’s cost thousands of Dollars to replace…. Not unlike the value of modern GPU’s ! Writing-off one of those specialist older PCB’s was not an option so repair techniques and tools had to be developed…. Just as you demonstrated in this video. I have had to repair a PCB that had a crack across its full width and it was challenging to say the least. Failure was just not an option and the cost of labour was just accepted by my employer. I loved this video…. far more interesting than watching certain other channels where a GPU is quickly declared a “no-fix” at the first signs of a harder repair that cannot be completed in a few minutes ! Good business but pretty disappointing for the viewer. Then again you have the skills that others may not be fortunate enough to possess ? Thank you for the time you spend on these more interesting repairs and on making the video of the event :)
Update: The videos of PACE PCB repair may be found by searching TH-cam for “Paceworldwide” Be warned…. These are very old videos :)
