This video was not boring. You proved how important it is to measure the pads yourself and not to trust anyone's info on it. That's good info for people who want to go a good job.
Great video! I'll tell ya though, I've had my ventus 3090 since 2021 without ever opening it up and my memory junction & hot spot temps never exceeded 90 C. After adding aluminum heatsinks to the backplate over the vram and getting a new case with better airflow, now I get more like 82-85 C. Core almost never exceeds 75 C.
I seriously came home from watching NF replacing 4090 connectors to reseat my connector today! The 3x8P to 12VHPWR was always a little snug in my case. I fished some more slack to make things fit better. Hopefully, that saves a burned connector.
good for you man, another good thing is to check for tension or too much weight, if the cable has a bunch of tension or is very heavy, it may ever-so-slightly sloooowly disconnect and burn. be safe out there with those 4090s.

Before removing old pads and adding new ones, don´t forget to measure all the old pads first and note down their individual thicknesses. You´ll avoid experimenting with pads thickness. It is only unavoidable in a situation, when a manufacturer uses atypical thickness, which isn´t generally available.
According to JacobF from EVGA, the pad thicknesses are: "Memory is 2.25mm, VRM 2.85mm, back VRAM is 2mm". He posted this on the EVGA Forum on Oct 20, 2020
Those numbers are wrong for 1 reason They use thicker but softer pads. Softer pads will squish but harder pads dont. Thats they their numbers are useless.
Good point on softness. FWIW, there is also a FAQ page on EVGAs website that lists pad thickness for all of their cards. For 3090, they show 2, 2.25, 2.5, and 2.75 in various locations. No 2.85 like JacobF wrote.

Protip, remove the plastic off the fan hubs when you buy new cards. If you don't you can end up causing the fans to wobble when spinning resulting in bad/dead fans.
What did they do, try to pull the fans out without unscrewing them? Did they think they could just pull the blades out? I don't see how else they could damage 2 fans like this, I doubt they both just failed like that.

In basic terms the coils are "smoothing" the voltage from the output of the mosfets which are operating in their most efficient mode, turning completely on and off, this smoothing is lossy and causes the heating. "coil whine" is the waste effects of the smoothing becoming audiable.
I have a question: are you liable when you break a customers card? What are you doing if its unfixable, do you keep the card, or do you pay the Customer for keeping it?
Sometimes the putty can be reworked by hand to become surprisingly soft again. Definitely wear gloves when doing so. I usually just knead it by hand. That being said, it is possible the putty got cooked with the 2 fans not running. The VRM's do get quite hot, but I haven't seen bone-dry EVGA putty yet myself.
