    Nice video Sal.
When you're shooting at 1/8000 using High Speed Sync how does that affect the battery life in the flash. My understanding is High Speed Sync drains a battery much faster. Thanks...
    Well done...(as always).

What you’re saying is correct but w context. Yes… it makes the flash work much harder than let’s say being at 1/200th sec. But according to profoto I’m still going to get 400 full power dumps on this. Now I’m fairness I’ve never tested it w hss vs standard but I also wouldn’t shoot all day in hss. But I love the look of flash w a shallow depth of field.

@@SalCincotta1 Yes, I get your point Sal and wouldn't shoot in HSS all day as well when say doing a wedding shoot.
I think, because of the extra battery drain issue, I've been avoiding using HSS a lot and honestly I am going to change my attitude/approach on that issue because the benefits of using HSS (on select shots) really does open up a lot of flexibility and benefits.

The way it works is it has to fire multiple times in a very short duration to be sure the entire frame is exposed which also means that it lowers the overall power of the flash…

Great technique. I'm doing this most of the time as I can't stand the washed out background, esp when there is beautiful cloud in the sky. I just couldn't quite get the not flashy look like what you did. Thanks for sharing it. One thing is Profoto is quite powerful light and I don't have that, so I use ND filter instead of HSS. Considering I'm the one man band, so 1 light is all I have and I need to start using HSS for quick portrait session during the wedding.

ty so much!! I think you should work on getting to HSS - the results are SPECTACULAR!! You get perfect light with that milky background. it took me a long time to embrace it - but i love the look now! :)

Sal, I’m doing this technique and love the results. I’d love your opinion on which light/lights to take on my trip to The Philippines. Two A10’s or and A10/B10 combo. My style is similar to yours, I don’t severely darken the background. I like to blend the background wherever possible. I’d love to know your thoughts.

I love the new ai masks and I do use it all the time. In fact I often develop for the subject and then ai mask for the background and darken to make the subject stand out. But once you get good at flash photography, the results can be much better. Heck, you can use both techniques together. I used to be a natural light person but once I started learning flash, I really upped my game. You don't use flash in all scenarios but suddenly a lot more possibilities open up.

Really don't like the flash shot. Shadows are harsh, highlights are a bit much and to be honest I think the framing was way better in the first shot. She was also already bright enough to stand out against the dark sky. And I know you said that it hadn't been touched yet but I think you'd get a great image out of the first file and a mediocre one from the flash shot.
