- Deep in the mountains of Idaho lies the home of some of the largest freshwater perch on the planet. 15" fish weighing over 2lbs. are common. The lake just froze and we're on the hunt for safe ice to chase some of this Idaho gold!

We used to ice fish down by the dam in the late 70's early 80's and catch a lot of Kokanee and Rainbows. Nice video buddy, thanks for sharing.

6” of ice is plenty! Where was everybody? If this were Michigan, early ice, with the fish you have in Cascade, there’d be 200 folks out there even on a weekday.

Love them giants. You ever catch them that size full of eggs? What’s that weigh? 2.5#?
All winter long they’re full of eggs. They’re some fattys!
@@OLDHATOUTDOORS I’ve only caught 16-17” in July. Can never find them on the ice. Even in July they weigh between 1 3/4# and 2#.
Great entertaining video! We went last weekend for the Cascade fishing derby.. Fog/clouds and about 14 inches of fresh powder made it interesting. How thick was that ice? What would be the minimum you would walk out on?
Thanks for watching Paul! The ice was about 6 inches that day which was plenty to make me feel safe. 3-4 inches is ok too depending on the quality of ice and the size of the guys fishing with me :-)

We go in tomorrow for 6 days
Stop at Tackle Tom's in Cascade. They will help you with a snowmobile. If you end up walking out, you can do so from Poison Creek or Boulder Creek. Both spots you'll need to walk a ways to get to fish. You can also walk out from the boat launch in Cascade. You'll just be limited where you can go if you're on foot. Good luck!
