Best bare shaft explanation I have ever heard. Most of the time you get "nock left, tail right" which no one can keep straight. Thanks.

Thanks brother for educating us. I am new to bow hunting, but as a former sniper when i found your videos it made total sense as that is what we do with bullet coefficient to make the perfect round for your rifle. Cant wait for my test kit to arrive so i can create the most lethal and ethical arrow for my bow.

I am an engineer and archer. I love your content because it’s correct and mindful of the context of archery..... which is primarily a weapon designed to kill things. I live in the UK where bow hunting is illegal, but I still target shoot with hunting in mind.... because that’s what a bow is for. I would never usefully or ethically have to hit a target accurately at more than 25yards range. If I didn’t have to hit a target further away, Id do it with a longbow and a bunch of friends..... which is also why I clout shoot. Keep the content coming 👏🏻

11 seasons shooting non-adult twizzlers. Killed over 90 deer. About 10 of those were fed to coyotes because of poor penetration. The only thing I tried to do differently was change my shot placement to get behind that shoulder and down. Not enough vital to limit their past shot travel distance and give me good blood. I'm going through a complete switch to adult arrows, bare shaft tuning, nock tuning, fletch tuning, heavier single bevel broadheads and aiming where my arrows will blow through their vital v and give me the Rut Daniels kill!

Ranch Fairy you are very entertaining and I love your attitude. I must be a goofy duck because I have been using 100 grain brass inserts and old style 150 grain broad heads that my fathers left behind. My arrows weight 255 grain with fletching and nock then my insert and tip are 250 grain so I am tad over 500 grain. Not sure brand of broad head but they look like palmer extremes and they will crash through bones unlike those rage things. Not sure how to figure out FOC but these arrows work and that's good enough for me. Shoulder bones don't stand a chance. Quit rages many years ago after a couple shoulder hits. Rages and bones don't go together good. I am almost out of the Palmer style so will need to find a replacement that doesn't break the bank. The Palmer style start getting rebellious @ 25 and by 35 its like we never knew each other. This is with extensive bare shaft tuning and great results. I alway keep one in my quiver when hunting tight woods, most shots under 20 yards. My golf bag also carries generic g5 style fixed 3 blades that I sharpen up and they will fly good out to 70 yards and beyond. @ 70 they are still really close to field points. I will say I tend to fall in the 5% you talk about as you can get a g2 bow press for under 50 bucks to yoke tune and or to use control cable tuning methods on hybrids which is what Pamela is. You have way more then 50 bucks into one arrow so small expenses and I like to change my own cables and strings, hate relying on shop 30 miles away. Keep the videos coming! Just ordered my sniper light for coyote hunting this fall in WI. Start practicing no peep night shooting next month to get ready. Backup bow is going full nocturnal!

Just did this bare shaft tuning in the target and through paper, showed just how "out" my bow was. i moved the rest until the bare shaft made a bullet hole in the paper. Now all of the broad heads i've ever bought shoot very close to field points; never had that happen before.

  • @30cpe
    @30cpe 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Great advice as usual. I just finished tuning. It wasn't quite as effortless as in your video because it ended up involving dropping my 60# Chill r to 55# and cutting my shafts to 27 3/4" to get 340 Beman ICS Hunters to tune with 125 grain point and 100 grain insert. The bare shaft now flies straight, and btw, my fletched arrows with field points group with the bare shaft as well. This gave me just over 19% FOC and 519 grains total. I probably should have gone to 300 spine shafts, but then I'd have had to deal with the finance committee and she had already decided that vinyl plank flooring in the basement was a higher priority. Perhaps next year I will invest in some 300s and make some adult arrows. ;-{)
Thanks for keeping this stuff real. Like you, I'm a bow hunter. I shoot at targets to get ready for bow hunting. I want arrows that penetrate and broadheads that cut for quick, clean kills at ACTUAL hunting ranges, like 25 yards maximum, and 10 yards is way better! I like seeing the arrow stuck in the ground after it passes through my deer.

Definitely not the only guy who shoots linking logs for arrows, the grizzly stick guys do it as well. I have to say though, I've seen numerous guys like john Dudley, Levi morgan, and Jim burn worth taking shots over 50 yds and making great ethical shots because they were shooting a lighter weight, and by light weight I mean around 450 grains , flatter shooting arrow. One particular hunt that comes to mind is the man himself Bill Winke when he killed the 200inch g4 buck at 50 yds. Nothing wrong at all with shooting these heavy ass arrows for the sake of momentum and clean pass throughs but I think theres a happy medium where you can add some distance to your effective shooting distance by having a bit more speed and a flatter shooting arrow while still having more than enough momentum. Entertaining video though

Absolutely. You can shoot skeet loads and mechanicals - man, I am not saying they don’t work. Millions of animals wounded to death every year.
I don’t plan for things to go perfect.

From what I’m seeing, broadheads land in the same place as a bare shaft when everything is where it’s suppose to be with arrow rest adjustment and the arrow spine is correct.
Would it be sensible to make the broadheads group with field points right from the start ?
I can see where serious targets shooters that are using glued in points would have to bare shaft tune because they can’t get a broadhead on the arrow

I agree with you everybody seems to like Target nice round targets big rounds Target. I have a rotten hate but for stopping the arrows in case I miss and then I have a 6-inch cardboard tube that stands 6 feet tall and it was originally decor for a carpet I figure if I can put an arrow in the tube I've hit my target and occasionally I will wrap duct tape around the tube and shoot the duct tape. I started doing that when my grandfather looked at me and said why do you have such a big Target small targets means small misses and if you think of it that way you'll bring home to meet every time

The 150 and 225 are 1 5/16” wide and that bowed out piece on the back. Nasty. They also fly great. All reports on Helix says the same thing. They can be hard to sharpen too. Get the sharpener

400’s are twizzlers - HA. Yes - get 300 spine - same brand and diameter as the 400’s. Two things: 1. You’re front loading the arrow - 200 grains - that’s straight forward
      2. the longer and heavier point actually softens spine a bunch, the whole arrow is “longer”. Those grizzlies blow through critters!!!!

@@RanchFairyNo the shafts are still bare. I did shoot my old arrows that are fletched for a control and they group right there with them. The vertical spreads out because of the weight difference at a distance but at 25 and closer, they are in the same holes. I just remembered I need to number my arrows. Was so wrapped up in cutting 1/4" at a time that I forgot that step. Some shots are smooth all the way out. Some do that nock kick then straighten. Maybe it's only certain shafts and I can just put them to the side. 25, 30, 35 and 40 yards everything hits great. At 20 and closer, some are a bit nock left. So I am trying to build a heavier arrow with gold tips 7795 (.340) spine with a 30 inch draw and 67pound draw weight. I put a 100 grain insert with a 200 grain head and tried bareshaft tuning like your video shows. With this much weight on the front, i experienced tail whip. So i moved the rest 1/16 right and left and never could get that "kick" out of the flight. The slighted movement of the rest caused the tail in the opposite direction. I put on a 125 grain point and the arrow appeared to shoot straight with my original "tune." If I have an arrow that is questionably underspined for the amount of weight i want to put up front, is this a problem I am going to notice with the tail left and right effect as it comes out of the bow bare shafted?

Shaft is too soft - the lighter point is showing you that. Pretty standard. I’d jump to a .250 spine since your DL is long. Black Eagle spartan .001 is a killer option.

i checked Black Eagle out. Its hard to decide on an arrow. They all hype up their product so well. The only arrow that i have seen pass the "tough" test is the grizzly sticks and the black eagle with an aluminum footer thingy. They seem good. Maybe on my next arrow buy. Anyway, when I shot the heavy 200 grain with field points and broadheads, they shot with the similar POI. But with the 125 grain that shot identical with bareshafts, the broad head shot 2 low and 5 right. Go Figure:(.
