    This was the REAL Chicago. Able to get down and dirty just to rattle your head, and then turn around and do 'Fancy Colours". What a great variety of flavors. Thank you Terry for your tremendous influence on this group of great musicians. Hasn't been, at all, the same since your passing.

      "This was the REAL Chicago" I agree ! How did they get from this great electric and groundbreaking progressive stuff to easy listening 80's ballad crap like "Hard Habit to Break","Look Away","I don't Wanna Live Without Your Love," "You're the inspiration."etc

    He never repeated himself. Wasn't into the note for note rendition and posing that so many rock guitarists were afflicted with. Still my all-time favorite rock guitarist. "Liberation" from CTA 50 plus years later still mind boggling. Those banjo like strums at the beginning are incredible.

    • @davidmay8104

      He rarely overplayed either. On the funkier songs, like this one, they're approaching a sort of funk/jazz synthesis. Kath improvised a lot, like a jazz player.

    People think Chicago fell with Peter departing but Chicago was hit once and only when Terry was lost.

    • @golfhound
      @golfhound 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You're right. After Terry died, Chicago was not the same. After Terry died, they became more commercialized pop music. They downgraded from serious composers with seriously brilliant music to juke box junk. Girls, bring your bubble gum and tissues for those sappy pop tunes. Yet another example of the record industry and their pop culture mindset. Here was a brilliant band which could rival Yes or Kansas with their compositions that was ruined by a clueless record industry. Terry was working on a solo album and considering leaving the band. Live at Carnegie Hall was their "9th symphony." I seems that most true Chicago fans agree with me. Also, their first album was brilliant. I saw them live in 2002. I almost walked out.

      Peter who? He had some valuable vocals, but he wasn't Terry, Robert or Walter.
      Then we have Saturday in the Park, case in point, bubblegum.
      CTA 1, Chicago 2 to IV for greatness and the rest were all top 40.

      Paul Levine - forget about the stupid Hall of Shame. It's geared towards pop and radio and was run by Dick Clark if I'm not mistaken. Any thing called "Rock n' Roll that has Annette Funacello in its bubble gum nonsense. Chicago will have a loyal following and guitarists who dig hard enough will learn about Terry Kath just as musicians still study Mozart. Hendrix spoke so highly of Terry Kath. Jimi learned feedback from him. Since you appear to be a guitarist, how many people do you think have heard of Danny Gatton or Roy Buchanan? How about Django Rheinhart? I bet I stumped a few readers with that name. And yet, guitarists and serious musicians will know who those three gentlemen are. And yet they aren't found in any Hall of Shame. Mozart was murdered and buried in an unmarked pauper's grave. Yet his music is remembered and played over 200 years later. I think Terry Kath is in good company. Life isn't fair. Like me, I know you are thankful for having listened to and seen Terry Kath. We are the lucky ones. To hell with the bogus HOF institutions and their bubble gum. Who needs them anyway?

    • @paullevine1813
      @paullevine1813 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well you are right about pretty much all aspects especially when you start talking Terry , Roy , Jan Akkerman & definitely Django.ect. There was a time when Rolling Stone & the Hall of Fame did have merit but in today's lame world where Prince gets mentioned but who cared when Frank Zappa , Rory Gallagher Roy B. or Duane Allman passed, only musicians with a passion for what's real . Yes we were the lucky ones to have not only seen these greats but to have them as real influences. Chicago finally did the recognition they rightfully deserve . But you are right , the hell with the idiots that havent a clue when it comes to the names & music of the greats of Rock, Blues Jazz & even guys like Don Rich & Merle Travis. We really dont need outside bullshit to be in the know . Thanks for some encouraging words. Saw Terry & Chicago at The Atlantic City Pop Fest in 69 & again in 1970 at The Shady Grove Music fair in MD. They were hot as hell & still learning a lot of their best material. Those were the best of days. I started playing when i was 12 . Take care it's nice to hear from someone that has a good head on their shoulders & ears on their head.

      Jimi was only a cover guitar, every song he is known for he isnt original
      It is sad so much talent was gone too soon.

    • @willwilliams7491
      @willwilliams7491 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We all have our influences. Collectively yes, Chicago has great chemistry and the sum of pieces were greater than the whole. It was a 7 man contribution but Terry was the cog. When he passed, they almost disbanded. The style of music going forward was unarguably different.
      I take nothing away from any of the founding members. They made what we all appreciate from Chicago.
