I had one of those...tapered spindle bearing is weak link ... Got mine from a retired Kodak model maker. It was in his basement ... was a lot of work to get it upstairs ... machine was built back when iron was cheap. LOL Im sure you will enjoy using it.

I can't wait to see your progression! I picked one of these up last year, and while it works well, since the prior owner used it regularly and maintained it, it also does have a little slop in the x/y adjustments. I took it apart, removed it from one basement and then got it into mine. However, I was under pressure to get it out quickly, and wasn't able to figure out how to remove the table, so I have to do that. I'm hoping to follow your lead, as I don't want to break anything in my stupidity haha
Good luck! I'm excited for you!

I ran one just like this a couple summers during college. A small machine shop over by the Hillsboro airport that made contact service tools.

How great it will grind will depend on how worn out the table and saddle ways are. Looking forward to your future videos.

I have one of these machines, they are incredibly simple machines, very easy to take apart and work on. Everything is super straightforward and self explanatory, if you have at least 2 or more functioning brain cells you’ll be fine lol. They are “ok” machines. They are rack and pinion, not cable, no bearings in the ways, and all the ways are just flat surfaces. So there’s no v-way that keeps the x axis in line as it traverses the rack and pinion. This makes it less useful for side and cup wheeling as you can’t really trust it in that direction. There is a brass gib that tightens against the rack, it wears in the middle and makes that situation even worse so you’ll want to address that for best results. These were actually marketed more to small and home shop type markets and were sold as a “universal” grinder that could be a surface grinder, T&C grinder combo machine.

My dad has one he wants to sell. It’s 1942-44 model. Any idea what it might be worth. Does all work.
