Hey singers! Welcome to episode 5 of Voice Lessons Online! 🎶🎤 Today we are studying a singer that will ROCK YOU: Freddie Mercury! Massive vocal range, playful theatricality, and unending creativity. A true legend. Let us know what you like about him and which artist you would like to see next. Thanks for watching!
Thanks NYVC. This is another awesome video. Freddie was ahead of his time. He was able to think out of the box and did not allow the music industry to pigeon hole him. If he had listened to the record execs at the time, he would never have recorded the masterpiece "Bohemian Rhapsody".
@@NewYorkVocalCoaching Yeah, for sure! I love heavy metal, but nothing touches that special place that Freddie Mercury holds for me; and Queen as well. GD, the guy is so missed. I can just see him still writing music today...............
This channel is .......I can't explain. .... You guys are amazing. Nobody has ever done this breakdown!!!!!😭😭😭😭 Next Can you please do Michael Jackson or George Michael!!!!
Hey Justin, I really appreciate your work on these videos. Not only you, but also the other people who are also behind the camera. Freddie Mercury is such a singer who can motivate anyone for singing. The MaMaaaa- line in Bohemian Rhapsody killed me😅😅. Well, can you please make another one on Micheal Jackson???? It will be useful 😀😀😀😀 Take love from India 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much Biswaman! We're so glad you are enjoying the show and we really appreciate your kind words! And, we'll definitely be covering Michael Jackson :) -NYVC
@@NewYorkVocalCoaching Thank You Very Much. I really enjoy this show. I'm big fan of Voice Lessons To The World because I have learned many things from there. I also want to send my questions though 😅
Really love this one, Freddie the phenomenal singer ! I truly want an analyze of Messiah Marcolin, who`s the lead vocal from Doom Metal Band Candlemass. He`s the great combination of power, haunting, brutal, and beautiful ! I know they are not famous, but I love them ! Album
One of my top fav belters is 💜Whitney Houston💜 i love how she always sing with heart n soul i love it when she belts with a strong vibrato. I wanna learn that. 🤩😍
Can I do prince, touch his falsetto and his scream and also chest voice... a perfect song for this that has all 3 is “the beautiful ones” and how to get that scream
I’m not much into singing, I’m more into changing my voice and voice acting. Singing and voice acting both require significant vocal strength so they do kinda connect or at least have that one thing in common
So am I. A voice actor and a singer and it helps to do both to not only master different character voices but your own voice as well for range and control
@@AtomizedSound yeah one thing I still struggle to do though is that one voice that is very high pitch but non falsetto. I can only raise my pitch mildly before going into falsetto
Yes, voice acting and singing definitely overlap and help each other out! And, Mixing (staying connected instead of switching to Falsetto) can be very difficult! It's the "Holy Grail" of singing! :) For help with it, we have some great tips and exercises for you in Episodes 114 & 115. -NYVC
@@NewYorkVocalCoaching Yeah best I can do is elmos strong reinforced falsetto. If I have the strong falsetto I should only need enough practice to get a little bit more vocal strength and eventually I should have that strong high pitched and compressed voice. I sure I will need this for certain characters. Spongebob isn’t much of a big deal but for Fozzie Bear this is crucial. I already figured out that you have to pull the tongue and clench it significantly in the back for that distinct distortion Fozzie Bear has. The last thing I should need to top off that voice is that strong high pitch but not stretched out falsetto voice
What can I watch or practice for more about the "compression power" the first guy talked about? Is that saying he's using his "falsetto" register but somehow strengthening/thickening the sound so it sounds like chest voice?
Hi El! David is saying that Freddie is Belting and using a "chesty" register by using Compression without a lot of breath/volume. Sometimes people get louder to get stronger, and it works but it's not optimal. Doing Compression exercises quietly is a challenge but it will help you to gain great control over your Belting, your Mix Coordinations, your Breath Management and consequently your Volume. For more on this check out Ep. 104, Ep. 114, and also Quick Singing Tips "Vocal Strength In Letters". -NYVC
@@NewYorkVocalCoaching thank you so much! I'm a baritone who has always kind of considered a high F as kind of a ceiling on my "real" voice, and though I sing in falsetto all day (I'm a choir teacher and I always have to help the Altos with their darn notes!) I've only recently begun to realize that a lot of the tenor notes I've always heard as being unobtainable for me to perform are often sung in falsetto, but a lot stronger/more equalized in tone than mine.
Dear justin , I started taking breath from belly, i do not over compressed my voice, i do all the excercise on daily basis and my voice is imroving but still on high no matter how hard I try to keep my throat muscle relaxen but they automatically strain and my high notes feels like i am screaming . please help me i need your help please.
Hi Shubh! We're so sorry to hear this! We recommend writing in to Questions@VoiceLessonsToTheWorld.com and our team will give some episode recommendations that have some exercises to help you! -NYVC
It can be both! :) Vocal variety and flexibility is key for longevity of the voice. Compression is normal and natural, but over compression with excessive breath pressure and tension, and without utilizing other registers, will not be sustainable. We recommend checking out these episodes: Ep. 104 "How To Sing With Vocal Strength and Compression" th-cam.com/video/J3Flsrn1L-A/w-d-xo.html Ep. 111 "Singers: Practice THIS!" - Voice Lessons To The World th-cam.com/video/LauVoXN7iwY/w-d-xo.html Ep. 112 "What Is Vocal Technique?" - Voice Lessons To The World th-cam.com/video/Q6P1Y352O-M/w-d-xo.html Keep up the great work! -NYVC
I didn’t understand what the first guy said about compression power making the voice sound fuller. What is compression power? Is he just talking about compression? And isn’t compression pretty much used in 99% of our singing? Unless we are intentionally breathy?
There are different amounts of Compression that can be used! And Compression can be used without a lot of volume, but still have a powerful sound- which is the goal for a lot of contemporary sounds. Most people use volume when they want "power", so David is saying to cut the volume and just use the Compression. For more information on Compression, check out Episode 104 "How To Sing With Vocal Strength & Compression"! :) -NYVC
Wow can you also do prince? His range is insane he can mostly sing in his head voice, low chest voice, powerful screams that I want to do and he had the problem I had with a weak chest voice that’s why he only sung falsetto first 3 albums and can you do an analysis of his song the beautiful ones cause it has his beautiful falsetto then that powerful scream and chest voice
