    Thanks NYVC. This is another awesome video. Freddie was ahead of his time. He was able to think out of the box and did not allow the music industry to pigeon hole him. If he had listened to the record execs at the time, he would never have recorded the masterpiece "Bohemian Rhapsody".

    I’m not much into singing, I’m more into changing my voice and voice acting. Singing and voice acting both require significant vocal strength so they do kinda connect or at least have that one thing in common

      So am I. A voice actor and a singer and it helps to do both to not only master different character voices but your own voice as well for range and control

      @@AtomizedSound yeah one thing I still struggle to do though is that one voice that is very high pitch but non falsetto. I can only raise my pitch mildly before going into falsetto

    • @NewYorkVocalCoaching
      @NewYorkVocalCoaching  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, voice acting and singing definitely overlap and help each other out! And, Mixing (staying connected instead of switching to Falsetto) can be very difficult! It's the "Holy Grail" of singing! :) For help with it, we have some great tips and exercises for you in Episodes 114 & 115. -NYVC

    • @SpringChickensOnlyMan
      @SpringChickensOnlyMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NewYorkVocalCoaching Yeah best I can do is elmos strong reinforced falsetto. If I have the strong falsetto I should only need enough practice to get a little bit more vocal strength and eventually I should have that strong high pitched and compressed voice. I sure I will need this for certain characters. Spongebob isn’t much of a big deal but for Fozzie Bear this is crucial. I already figured out that you have to pull the tongue and clench it significantly in the back for that distinct distortion Fozzie Bear has. The last thing I should need to top off that voice is that strong high pitch but not stretched out falsetto voice

    What can I watch or practice for more about the "compression power" the first guy talked about?
    Is that saying he's using his "falsetto" register but somehow strengthening/thickening the sound so it sounds like chest voice?

    • @NewYorkVocalCoaching
      @NewYorkVocalCoaching  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi El! David is saying that Freddie is Belting and using a "chesty" register by using Compression without a lot of breath/volume. Sometimes people get louder to get stronger, and it works but it's not optimal. Doing Compression exercises quietly is a challenge but it will help you to gain great control over your Belting, your Mix Coordinations, your Breath Management and consequently your Volume. For more on this check out Ep. 104, Ep. 114, and also Quick Singing Tips "Vocal Strength In Letters". -NYVC

      @@NewYorkVocalCoaching thank you so much! I'm a baritone who has always kind of considered a high F as kind of a ceiling on my "real" voice, and though I sing in falsetto all day (I'm a choir teacher and I always have to help the Altos with their darn notes!) I've only recently begun to realize that a lot of the tenor notes I've always heard as being unobtainable for me to perform are often sung in falsetto, but a lot stronger/more equalized in tone than mine.

    Is compression hard on the vocal folds and is it sustainable ?

    • @NewYorkVocalCoaching
      @NewYorkVocalCoaching  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It can be both! :) Vocal variety and flexibility is key for longevity of the voice. Compression is normal and natural, but over compression with excessive breath pressure and tension, and without utilizing other registers, will not be sustainable. We recommend checking out these episodes:

    I didn’t understand what the first guy said about compression power making the voice sound fuller. What is compression power? Is he just talking about compression? And isn’t compression pretty much used in 99% of our singing? Unless we are intentionally breathy?

    • @NewYorkVocalCoaching
      @NewYorkVocalCoaching  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are different amounts of Compression that can be used! And Compression can be used without a lot of volume, but still have a powerful sound- which is the goal for a lot of contemporary sounds. Most people use volume when they want "power", so David is saying to cut the volume and just use the Compression. For more information on Compression, check out Episode 104 "How To Sing With Vocal Strength & Compression"! :) -NYVC
