Underrated? Why? It’s too easy to use the word underrated when you like something and think more people should be like you. As it happens, I enjoyed the programme very much and still watch the videos that I bought.
I'd forgotten how good this comedy series was , Robert Powell was a revelation in the role I always found it amusing that he played Jesus of Nazareth and then he was in this with Jasper Carrot, hilarious.
The grass is Paul Barber, known for playing Denzil in Only Fools And Horses. I like to think he's playing the same character, making this a crossover. The Detectives also crossed over with The Paradise Club (remember that show?) and Bergerac, so it's quite possibly deliberate.
I watched this with my Mom, she always watched everything that was actually Funny! I always Loved the way he called Jasper "BOB". If you know you know.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?
'Serious actor' Robert Powell was brilliant in this series.

Such underrated show just brilliant tv😊
Loved this show. George Sewell was great as the boss as well. It should be back on tv instead of some of the current "comedies".
I agree, but George Sewell sadly passed away in 2007. I don't think it would be the same without him.
This is still hilarious. Brilliant show.
The most underrated comedy ever...
So true

@@momeara7482 Only because they didn't bring the monkey!
Brilliant. Such a shame about the loud canned laughter.
I think it was filmed in front of an audience.
@@helenbryant404 Well, the blokes at the bar weren't laughing.

Haha. Love Denzel's Liverpool accent
