    I had the opportunity & the pleasure to ride in the Thais Long Tail boats over there in Thailand when i was in the military. The Thais used. . . . . & i kid you not. . . . V-6 & V- 8 Chevy/Ford engines for their powerplants. And these boats are fast as all can be!!! Thankya young man for sharing this video. Lookin forward to seeing your boat iut on the water. Take care & God Bless.

    Modify the engine mount and place the engine more forward of the pivot. It will add weight on the engine end of the drive and it'll be a lot easier to maneuver along with being easier on your back. The Thais run 1.5 liter diesels(HEAVY!) in their longtail tour boats. It's all a matter of balancing the engine and shaft over the pivot.

    Tip for your handle, use what is called a locking mountain bike grip. It's cheap and locks on with allen screws.

    It idles. It just doesn't have a clutch to be in neutral. But that also gives more power to the prop being straight drive. Thinking about getting one and slapping a motor like yours on it. Maybe a 20 hp. Idk yet. Probably have the same boat you have

    They make bigger cluches for it to when you at an idle the prop won't spin ir it slows it down a lot i can't remember

    You said 16 HP how does that compare power-wise or maybe I should say output wise to a regular outboard of a 16 horsepower class? I'm also wondering about RPM and the output because small engines of the type you have there I don't believe are known for being good for very high RPM. The small engine goes to what 3000-4000 Max probably but a Yamaha or Honda Outboard crank up pretty high maybe five six thousand or more. Obviously you could run away from those guys in the mud but can you keep up with them in Open Water

    • @jordanbrooks4127
      @jordanbrooks4127  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure on exact specs but I anit going to lie there pretty slow compared to an outboard lol open water outboard would smoke me no doubt but like you said I can go where an outboard wouldn't even move lol

  • @wu3705
    @wu3705 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't know why someone couldn't put some lead weights inside their handle or clamp some on the outside of their handle to balance it out somewhat. I think you could do it in a way that it would hardly be noticeable especially with matching paint. I have other ideas how to make it better but I would want copyright benefits...maybe the owners will contact me ;)

      @@jordanbrooks4127 I don't know how I ended up here, but I enjoyed your video all the same! I enjoy boating and all things engines. I tinker with go-karts and these clone engines. LOL, I could take the governor out, put a billet rod and racing cam and billet flywheel in that thing, and aftermarket exhaust and open up the carb and bigger valves and shave the head and make that little darling really make some waves!!! it would just make more noise!!! But it would sure go a lot faster!!! But then I don't know what the RPM range your prop is tuned for, may have to go with something a little bigger and more pitch!!! Thanks for the video!

  • @clayton203

    I don’t see it no louder that someone coming up through flooded timber with a regular outboard,,and every time they go across a log ,,the exhaust blows up out of the water,,actually not as loud In my opinion,,cause you would b idling,,,and someone coming up through there with an outboard would b gunning to get across logs and blowing the exhaust out of the water,,,so your good man,,,and besides that if your where the ducks want to b they will come back,,,they are stupid that way,,,always go where the ducks want to b,,that way you wont b second guessing yourself

    How would one of these do in rapids? I have always wondered. I hunt/fish a variety of water up here in da UP of Michigan. I duck hunt in muck that is like going through wet concrete, also fish for salmon/steelhead in shallow rivers with lots of rapids. I was thinking of building a jet jon for a while but it would clog in the muck. Wondering if you could run fast rivers with a set-up like this or if the tail would pop out of the water.

    Will salt water kill the shaft or props

    • @TrapperAaron
      @TrapperAaron 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it will none of it is marine grade anything honestly the only quality part of the rig is the static coupling from motor to shaft. Its a nicely machined peice of steel. Also the rig i worked on used grub screws that sit in keyway of motor in place of an actual keyway and shear key type assy. Seeing as there is absolutely no shock absorbing design to this prop/shaft setup i assume the grub screws are their version of a shear key. Better than detonating a motor everytime u hit a log. Honestly if u have access to even a neigbors shed w some very basic metal forming tools. You can easily fab up a rig better than this for same price.

      The prop is aluminum and made to be the weak link in the system. They sell the props cheap so you can pick up a couple and change on the water. They also offer a stainless shaft
