A potent Hobbywing brushless system means you’ll have plenty of power on tap while ripping through courses. Topping the rig off is a racing-inspired body and roll cage loaded with scale detail. I'm liking what I'm seeing. Hopefully this will jumpstart the stagnant 2.2 class. Anyone thinking it's a copy or clone isn't looking under the hood. Yes, they chose a popular body style (looks like a deadbolt, wraith 1.9, Vanquish front end...), but they've got their own stamp the components underneath. I for one, dig the body design (which is probably because many are drawn to that look). The divorced transfer case layout and the axles look good too.

U said it best last night, one of the founders from axial works for redcat ofcourse going see better quality shared technology hence why redcat hired him to making strides towards being competitive with our rc market .

I'd like to see a full cage like the gen 7 for this, and with the Camo X tires, with beadlocks, and the reef metal sliders.. all stuff you have in house..the body is cool, but without a rigid style body like the gen 8 I'll stay away from it unfortunately. I do like it tho.
Awesome job Redcat, great looking rig... Really love the use of part of the Gen 8 platform and using the chassis mounted servo. So many options for custom builders for some really cool builds. There will be many a creative mind set whirring with this release. A chassis builders kit for sure please. If I were to have a negative it would appear you've dropped a beadlock wheel? Small inconvenience though.

My main and really only complaint is the price and glued wheels. Love the new axles. Like a lot! I'm on the fence about a CMS racer. I feel like SOA is the way to go.
I just ordered one,yeah dumb glued tires in this day & age.I have some aluminum beadlocks I may install.

My son and I have some older redcats and they are a blast. But these newer redcats look so much better, durability and components

It could probably be used but is not 100% designed to fit directly on it.

Well anything for the sorts would work really - such as general gear grease.

In the pictures the panhard bar is perfect, May have just been how they had to mount to the portal axles on the gen8?

Is this capable of slower crawling as well? I was considering a Gen 8 for my first crawler but might get this instead.
Glowingtomato that’s part of throttle control. I’ve got a 4300kv in mine with no drag brake. It’ll go just as slow or fast as you can handle.
Not designed for that at all as it has a non sensored brushless motor. This is meant to be quick on the rocks
Well a stadium truck isn’t designed to be a drag car but yet there’s Slashsters. Only difference between a 2.2 and a 1.9? Tires. Make a gear change and tires, this turns into a Gen 8 without portal axles.
Weston Paschal well drag racing doesn’t require a sensored setup.... and there’s more to this then tire size. Regular gen 8 has a brushed motor, and axe edition has a sensored brushless setup....your question was about low speed not high speed 🙄
My reply is you can make anything do anything you want. Think outside the box. I just put gen8 axles under my Ascender. And 2 if you want to go slow, don’t hammer the throttle. Like I said my 4300 will crawl at a snails pace, not get stuck or hammer it and it’s on the roof. Me personally, I like to have it set up to be non drivable and doesn’t make sense, it makes me a better driver because of throttle control, anticipating the way the rig will react in certain situations, and knowing the full capabilities of what it can do. Original question. Can it rock crawl? I say yes it can, without a doubt. Can it run against an RR10 or Wraith? I say yes to that too.

I really like this type of vehicle as I'm not into crawling so this seems like a great mix of crawling and high speed bashing! Like a truck you can take hiking with you.
Well I consider myself to be one of the biggest Redcat Racing fans there are, my collection speaks louder than words. I’m getting a little this new release of course, can’t wait to see what I can do to it. Great work Redcat cause I know it’s gonna hold up. Looks like portals are going to be an option and if not I’ll just make them one.👍✊🤜🤛🤝

Just wanted to drop in and say that Redcat has great customer service! Had an issue recently and troubleshooted it myself. They took my word and sent me replacement parts in just a few days. Thank you Redcat Racing. Sent me a new reciever and servo, no questions asked.
Wendigo put Wraith into a retirement.

finally I can find a use for my 2s batteries again, nice speed spec. Just might be one that I'll run stock, unless durability becomes an issue. Redcat is really busting out of the toy grade stereotype that they kind of had and becoming a mid level hobby grade.
These last 2 trucks I think are definitely better than mid level hobby grade and are direct competitors with any trucks in the same class and price range

I grabbed that losi 4.0 chris and db pro be here Saturday, I went losi craxy
Now I'm on the fence about it, just seen the size. I never checked the wheelbase for the Gen8 and was a bit disappointed after my purchase to find that it was much larger than 1/10. It appears that Redcat has again taken liberty with "Scale", the Wendigo is even bigger than the Wraith.
@@TerraQuestRC you do realize scale goes by the actual 1 to 1 truck and that truck was a big truck over 2 tons probably 3 . Is gen8 bigger than trx bronco?

Redcat I love you guys but this is not a rock racer. Rigs with a suspension setup like your Camo are rock racers. Calling it that is not a wise decision, real rock racers will run circles around the Wendigo. It's confusing. Your Wendigo does not come close to the handling and stability of a true rock racer. With its current powertrain(which is also a mistake) it's a 2.2 trail truck. A brushless sensored system would make this a great 2.2 trail rig and crawler. Actually just a Hobbywing 1080, 550 35T, and and 3S would make it so much better at slow speeds and still have plenty of speed on tap. The 1080 has amazing low speed control and smoothness and i'm surprised most crawlers don't come with them RTR. Putting an unsensored brushless motor in a solid axle crawler is an awful idea. You guys really did an amazing job putting the AXE system with the FS-GT5 in the Gen8. I hope you guys do an update on the Wendigo soon. Cheers
Your opinions and points are very well put. However, the engineering department with regards to this truck - designed it in the legitimate scale fashion of a rock racer. Granted, it would do very well with a censored system.
