yep ran a bolt through my front shaft tonight so i can run her tomorrow.. got a set of drive shafts n 2 bags of screw pins 2 trees of plastic rod ends n hope im good for any future issues.. I love this thing so much lol. im torn between a second gen8 since my daughter had to have my purple one lol.. I need a crawler.. this is the greatest thing for mountain dirt bike trails I've ever seen n gravel pit running.. it my gravel pit king!!! 150 ft high climbs none of my other rigs could ever make... best rc truck ever!!!!
*Places target on back* I've had nothing but good times out of my Redcat models. I own 2 Volcano EPXs and a Gen 8 Scout. No major problems and no broken parts. In comparison, my Axial Wraith dropped a chassis support due to a loose screw the first day. It's all relative. Scale wise, we take these models up and over obstacles that break and destroy full size off road vehicles that are made of steel. 10th Scale Garage, I was one of your first subs and I love what you've done with the channel. I watch you guys all the time.
I'm with you on this one. I tend to stay away from Redcat after some bad experiences, but I really like this truck, and I'll tell you why. I think it would be a good offroad trail truck. Not a rock crawler, not a fast racing truck, but a really great offroad trail truck, especially because of its speed and those locked differentials. You should find a nice offroad trail with a bunch of mud, and I think this beast will shine... er... um... shine as much as one can with a bunch of mud on it lol... Also, I think it could do well in loose gravel as well. Just because its usefulness may not be immediately apparent, doesn't mean it doesn't have strong points.
Had mine over a month now. Re geared it, changed the ESC and motor to a sensored one, made some suspension adjustments, and its the king of the hill when my buddies get together to crawl. Dont let this thing's speed scare you away. Its built tough enough to handle some serious tire binds. I live in Moab and put this thing to the test on the regular! Its survived some harsh falls too. I agree about obnoxious body noises though. Its a rattle can😆. Dont let the brand scare you...it's secretly better than an axial, just no cool stuff like front dig, or axe esc.
Fully agree with what the wendigo is. Also your style of doing vids is good and relax and on point plus music makes it feel like a chill video. I have a Gen8 bought cause it caught my eye didnt read reviews or anything and im glad I got it. Havent had issues with mine yet but I do know they have some issues.

yeah his stampede isn't brushless 😂 or I guarantee there would be no chance for the Wendigo.. wish the Wendigo had the same fast n easy speed settings as the venoline setup.. I'm actually thinking of switching my rustlers system into the Wendigo I know low speed control would vastly improve... my stampede makes a decent trail truck on the 3 blink mode...

I bought one. Loved it until I tried to crawl with it, me. Could only fly across the rocks and break stuff. Took it to the beach and the sand all over, that was fun. Took it mudding, that was fun. I'll redo the motor etc and get it to crawl and see what I think from there maybe add a drag break. Almost launched it into a river not realizing that. Good timez!
Nice job guys! I swapped mine for an axe 550 3300kv and LOVE IT! Mainly for trail walking though. I don't really use it as a crawler more of a fun day out on the trail that nothing can stop it. I threw some mud slingers on mine too, about to throw in some single stage proline foams. should be all dialed after that!

I like my HR Servo Saver, the only servo its ever hurt was stock blue case traxxas servos. And a toddler sneeze will damage those. I ran same saver and servo on my Blackout for 2 years. Even a cheap ebay servo at that. It's done me good. I appreciate the tip thou!
I like it, and I'm considering this basher. I've been a Traxxas fan (still am) since I started getting into rc trucks, coming from Helis. I have a few axial vehicles aswell but this Rock basher is a beast and its liked by many who normally considered Redcat as not worthy. I just purchased the New Gen 8 v2 and I'm very happy with it, this Rock basher may be my next purchase! Yes ser. Enjoyed the vid and the 🎶. 👍👍

I actually did convert my Wendigo to brushed with a 550 Holmes Hobby 12 Turn, ESC and Reciever from an old parts TRX4. The Wendigo is now my favorite crawler I have. Totally worth it.
@@abingham3747 well I watched a video on programming your esc.. n I just programmed my "punch" to 1 beep.. the softest setting.. now im ready to test drive at the local gravel pit.. has loose hills steep steps n shelves.. n pretty fun place with crawlers n bashers alike.. if this isn't satisfactory.. its getting an overhaul to brushed.. I have 6 motors to choose from... prolly try the stock gen8 first... I actually liked it a lot.. but a 5 slot was way smoother n now thats my daughters rig...
@@billknepp1965 that's really cool that you have a local gravel pit to run at. With the brushless system in the Wendi I just really didn't like it all that much, it was cool but just super uncontrollable at almost any speed. That and honestly rock racing and all those stock plastic parts just weren't gonna work out well. Powering down to a brushed system was great and now I have a brushless system ready to throw in a roller. I hope you find success with the esc programing!
@@10thScaleGarage actually the redcat caldera 10e would be more comparable probably and handles 3s just fine, and with the 1/8th scale driveline and a arms, Dude, either one would be a great addition to your fleet. Gentlemen... wondering if I could pick your brains a bit.. bought a Wendigo.. ran it stock a few months till the motor seemed to hang up.. thought it was just brushless load up n surge.. but i just swapped out my original gen8 scout motor n esc n now im getting a weird pulsing like of power when I run it.. almost like something is going tight n letting loose in the drive train??? any ideas as this truck was the smoothest n quietest truck ever prior to this.. not it sonunds like my gen8 meat grinder I gave my daughter 😂
I lost the input gear and ring gear in the rear diff on mine. It did the same kinda thing briefly before the driveshaft broke. The rear diff is just 4 screws to take apart. You might want to check that. If that all looks good it might be an ESC issue. Redcat has a pretty awesome warranty service.

I found my new amazon beadlocks were rubbing the steering bar ends.. could have ground them but decided to make some shim washers out of soda 12 pack cardboard for behind the offsets on my front wheels... works perfect again... a body reamer n scissors is all it took.. yes motoring down n dropping to a 9tooth pinion.. (marksman) pinion will save a lot of headaches down the road im hopeing... brushless bashing was fun.. but I like trail running n crawling more lol.. thanks for the reply .. make more vids.. you are awesome to watch... redcat should use your vid as a Wendigo ad... id have still bought one after watching it lol I had already ordered it...lol

Yeah! I have a few videos on the Lightning. I have the electric version and the nitro version. Any 200mm 10th scale car body will fit on it. It drifts great out of the box, but with a bit of work you can make them perform really well.
it's gonna be a shame to put my orignal gen8 motor in it.. but its just to damn fast n tourqey for its own good.. I have brushless bashers in my. stampede n rustler.. they aren't 4wd.. but they enough for bashers.. Im wishing ID bought the marksman as im told its just. a slower Wendigo.... only got mine yesterday.. so ill give a few rips before swapping out the motor n esc... shame to shelve the brushless though
update.. I've programmed my esc n took the "punch" from 75% to the softest setting at 1 blink n switched the 0% drag brake to the 6th or one long beep n one short beep... muuuuch better.. wish there was a way to cut power by 50% but it really does help knocking the punch down.. It's now my most capable loose gravel pit climber.. it goes places my gen8 wouldn't with brass portal covers installed.. but thats the daughters rig now.. gen7 pro about to be ordered... I need a crawler... n that looks to be the best for the money going..
It's one of 2 redcats designed and made by redcat. The gen 8 and wendigo are all redcat it's why there's 3 levels of gen 8 with hardware differences and this is built off of it. It's better than a wraith.

Honestly, it would probably be about $150-$200 to get the car back to running condition, excluding a radio and body. Not sure how much shipping would be. Maybe $20?
It’s actually a pretty decent crawler. Just because it doesn’t want to go slow, doesn’t mean it’s a bad rock crawler. Given the fact that I talk about how much I love it, I don’t think people will watch this and think it sucks, but people are free to have their own opinions. I’m not here to sell anything. I’m here to tell the truth.

I have the wraith spawn, too. The spawn is a crawler, where as the Wendigo is almost a crawler inspired basher. Both are awesome.

Yeah. Not a fan of them on those either. It’s a piece that I prefer not to have flex. I want them to be rigid. Love the truck though.

Man I can't keep my Wendigo running. I keep spinning hexes/rims and twisting driveshafts. Thinking about converting it to a brushed 3s crawler.

Im wishing ID bought the marksman as im told its just. a slower Wendigo.... only got mine yesterday.. so ill give a few rips before swapping out the motor n esc... shame to shelve the brushless though
update.. I've programmed my esc n took the "punch" from 75% to the softest setting at 1 blink n switched the 0% drag brake to the 6th or one long beep n one short beep... muuuuch better.. wish there was a way to cut power by 50% but it really does help knocking the punch down.. It's now my most capable loose gravel pit climber.. it goes places my gen8 wouldn't with brass portal covers installed.. but thats the daughters rig now.. gen7 pro about to be ordered... I need a crawler... n that looks to be the best for the money going..
It's one of 2 redcats designed and made by redcat. The gen 8 and wendigo are all redcat it's why there's 3 levels of gen 8 with hardware differences and this is built off of it. It's better than a wraith.

@@10thScaleGarage if it's not to bad ill take it as a project car to make something crazy....cuz I only got toy grade rcs but I did order a wltoys k989 for my first rc...it took like 6 7 months to save for it..but I saved up n got it lol
Honestly, it would probably be about $150-$200 to get the car back to running condition, excluding a radio and body. Not sure how much shipping would be. Maybe $20?

a rock racer is not a rock crawler. people will look at it's inability to perform as a crawler. then make negative assessments about the rig.
It’s actually a pretty decent crawler. Just because it doesn’t want to go slow, doesn’t mean it’s a bad rock crawler. Given the fact that I talk about how much I love it, I don’t think people will watch this and think it sucks, but people are free to have their own opinions. I’m not here to sell anything.
