Yes, finally some more Deftones! * - * To me, Minerva is one of the best songs in their entire discography. I remember hearing it for the first time, I was shocked by how big it sounded and how beautiful Chino's singing was! The lyrics are great, too: so simple, yet so powerful. A little cryptic, as you would expect from Deftones, but they work so well with the song! Greetings from Italy, can't wait for more Deftones reactions :P
I knew you were going to love this one man. The song itself is from their 2003 s/t album and it's probably one of my favorite songs in their discography. It's sounds so big and there is a heaviness to it but the vocals are so warm and soothing, it just washes over you in a unique way I can't point too in many other songs. Good call on the video looking expensive, this was probably one of the last eras that Warner Bros was handing out huge budgets to rock bands for videos. Glad you are back on the Deftones train and really looking forward to future reactions. Here's the next few Deftones song you should check out after the next 2: Birthmark Feiticeira Diamond Eyes Romantic Dreams Hearts/Wires Other bands to give a listen: Glassjaw - Cosmopolitian Bloodloss Far - Mother Mary Failure - Another Space Song Faith No More - Everything's Ruined The Dillinger Escape Plan - One Of Us Is The Killer Cave In - Big Riff Deafheaven - Dream House Nothing - Dig Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock The Cure - Fasicination Street I'm listening from Long Island, NY btw
Fantastic reaction man, totally genuine & your review was spot on. I remember hearing this song when I was like on the local Alternative station back near release, I was blown away then & even more so now. The first word that comes to mind with this masterpiece is Monolithic. An absolute Monolithic tidal wave of sound, with a heart achingly beautiful melody. The older I get, the more I appreciate this
Amazing thoughts on the song, man, the sound on the song is so big and massive as you described (which is the amazing shoegazing/dreampop Deftones element) because it is about a goddess, so that's how divine a goddess would sound, and the desert totally exposes this idea of immensity, amazing dude, greetings from Laguna, México P.S. you should react to their Rosemary + Goon Squad, both of them together, cause it is as one song
Aye, my dads from Scotland! Langholm down by the border. I’m from California but live in Ohio for now. Keep up the Deftones! I recommend My Own Summer or Digital Bath. Those two are my consistent Deftones playlist songs
You need to listen to Deftones new album released Sept 2020. Long time fans saying it's one of their best albums. Radiant City would be my favorite, but the album is great. Deftones don't age, they reinvent themselves.
If you pay attention really closely to the guitar in the background it sometimes has a really cool almost mysterious Melody going danadanadanadaba donadonadonadona sorry for that description of the guitar 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Originally we wanted to shoot it in Greek Colasuiem .....in Pompei....Likle Pink FLyod did. But the Iraq war was going on and Greece was on the no Fly ZOne.....so We shot in the Imperial Sand Dunes on the border of Califronia and Mexico..the concept was to shoot from Sunset to Sunrise
@@paulfedor9828 dude, big fan of your work. Love POD's youth of the nation video and hoobastanks running away. Do you find yourself ever doing music videos again? If no, how come?
@@OmarOmarOmar Thanks! No i do Not do videos anymore due to the budgets are so small these days. Very hard to acheive the quality now that we had back in the day...when MTV was off the hook. Music Videos 80-90's-to early 2000's ....was a special time for music and film making. I would definitely direct music videos again.....because they were so much fun......and like yourself....I was a tremendous fan of the music. I retired from directing and I now do VIsual FX for Big movies.....(so least i can say im still film making in some level). Look forward to the POD review! LOL. Youth of a Nation has a great story behind it.
@@paulfedor9828 man thank you for replying. Can I ask, how on earth did you get into directing music videos, especially large budget stuff like the stuff you've done. I'd be extremely interested to know your story.
If your not familiar with this track, it's like getting a fly by dick slapping from a shuttle launch. Or like getting pepper sprayed in face with debris from a category 5 hurricane.

Cherry waves and Rosemary are some great songs too. but i would agree that Minerva is up there
When the heavy riff comes in and when Chino sings "ALL" and that climb down of the scale at the end of that "ALL" vocal part is such a good intro
It's impossible to get that signature Deftones sound without Frank Delgado. Change my mind.
No one will cuz its absolutely fax
Word up!

Been waiting over a year for Circa Survive reaction bruh. You said you would... Northern California, USA.
Also, Deftones - Smile. It is an 'unreleased' song from their album 'Eros' that never got released due to the death of their original bassist.

The melody chino is singing is really complex musically and it really gives the required dissonance
Yeah it's bizarre how this managed to be a charted single with how odd the melody is.
