God John this is the tip top episode that you have published to date. I was very impressed by Jons factual story as I have good friends in Tyrone who have regaled me with many stories which Jon have indeed colobrated. Had to smile when he was comparing the Tyrone boys with our own West Cork Brigade. I knew Tom Kelleher who was a famous member of Barry's unit & he stated when asked about the difference between his IRA & The Provisional's was ''SEMTEX''.
Fascinating stuff. Well done Jon, it's lifted a lid on what we're very dark memories from my childhood. I hope you and you're family are doing well. Roy
A Rep of Ireland Govt memo released 30 years later alleged Gerry Adams gave MI-5 the tip, It read that Adams and Lynagh were having a dispute about the war and talks, Lynagh wasn't getting updates On the talks so he told Adams they'd carry out a major attack as planned. The memo didn't go too much into it ,just Adams and Lynagh were at odds. I find it hard to buy
Just read the book and what a fantastic read. Extremely detailed even down to dates and times of operations carried out in east Tyrone. Some of the stories in this book are astonishing, brutal but down right astonishing to fine details of covert ops by security forces. Also I would point out that Johnathan Trigg wrote this book as a running chronically Tyrone diary and there was no predudice for or against any side of the conflict in his writing. If one side had carried out an atrocity it was noted as an atrocity regardless if it was PIRA or UVF etc. Highly recommend this book.
One lad survived. The SAS saw him and they knew he was one by them by the look of him but he drove past. He must have spoke with them when they first drove past?!?
He is virtue signalling to an Irish audience , Ira murders are ‘killings’ , loyalist murders are ‘disgusting murders’ , He seems to portray this gang as virtuous altar boys . I forget the name, but a senior Ira man from cork , who was seconded to Tyrone, wrote that they were more interested in killing Protestant farmers than fighting the British army , I don’t think I’ll be buying the book.
Castro's Guerillas shocked Batista's army by gaining a foothold in the Maestra mountains and the US army panicked to rush out a book to combat this trend.
