Enid’s a hugger. Enid also respects others are NOT huggers. Wednesday steps back to not be touched or to get a bit of personal space and Enid acknowledges that without making Wednesday feel bad about her boundaries. Respect.
@@rexibhazoboa7097 can you give an example of what that would look like? Because Wednesday seems to show appreciation by retaliation against her important people's enemies, ie the piranhas
agreed, i really appreciate that enid respects people’s boundaries. in school i always met a lot of people who didn’t respect that i wasn’t a hugger or a very extroverted person. it was so annoying
@@rexibhazoboa7097 Yeah I made a bit of a ranty comment about how I didn't like the hug being returned, 'cause it genuinely seems like Wednesday doesn't enjoy hugging up until then, and it kinda undermined that. Made her seem more like she was just trying to be a broody teen rather than legitimately someone who isn't fond of touch.
@@SanguinaryBlade I personally saw it as a show of how Wednesday has grown to be extremely comfortable around Enid and trusts her enough to be okay with physical touch with Enid. Some people prefer specific degrees and types of affection with specific people, and I think the hug also shows how the strong bond between the two is.
One thing that I appreciate about Enid is that outside appearances aside, she is a very strong person. She holds the people around her accountable for their behaviour, and doesn't let anyone treat her as a doormat.
@@raro344 Yeah, her 'arch' is her learning to stop trying to be a people pleaser, to be a little less concerned about what people think of her, in the same way that Wednesday's is learning to be a little MORE concerned with what people think of her.
This was such a great video, thank you for making it. I don't often find shows I enjoy, and when I do, I don't always know why. That's why I enjoyed this video so much. It was really enjoyable to see this discussion about Enid versus Wednesday and how their friendship grows across the season.
What I love about this show is that it doesn't do the unnecessary and frustrating misunderstanding tropes just to drag on the plot, characters say what they truly feel and it is really refreshing.
@@Lasanga95 I know, right? I'm 29, and in the early 2000's, we would've never seen a female character doing that, and they sure didn't have actual personalities like this back then. I'm glad to see media progressing like that, because that kind of thing would've never happened on tv when I was a kid and teenager. Also, kudos to the gorgon dude for just being honest with Enid as to why he wasn't there, even though that must've been deeply embarrassing for him. He isn't afraid to be vulnerable on that one: This frankly wouldn't have happened for male characters in the early 2000's either, unless they were gay. Glad to see a (presumably) straight dude be open about his feelings for once.
Have to say that in my experience in life people saying what they mean is not actually realistic. It's much more realistic to people to drop hints but never actually say what they mean unfortunately. And then they get upset with themselves or upset with you because you didn't realize the subtle hints are being dropped. And they assume that you do realize it and just don't return the feelings. The idea that in TV shows a lot of misunderstandings would be resolved people just for more honest is from what I've seen true about life as well.
The Addams said Wednesday is allergic to colour AND they made a special uniform to accommodate her. The headmaster then rooms her with the most vibrant and colourful person in the whole county. That's like placing a kid with a nut allergy to intern at a peanut butter factory. But then again, Wednesday might like being that close to danger. That is her thing isn't it.
i dont watch the show but from what i know, this is exactly the kind of school that would place a kid with a nut allergy and an intern at a peanut butter factory
Wednesday needs to bring Enid home to her parents. Morticia would never shame her for not wolfing out. She would adopt Enid and admire how sharp her claws are
Plus Morticia would not only accept Enid for who she is but she also give Enid some sage advice in the form of "If and when you do "wolf out" it will be on your time when you're ready to do it, not when someone else tells you to do it my dear but when you're ready to do it."
It's refreshing ... but also very nostalgic. Nowadays if Tv wants to make a strong and smart female, they just make them masculine, bulky and grumpy. I wonder when femininity has been labeled as a weakness, when it's actually the engine that makes the world run.
Enid's transformation finally occurs when she is running into danger to help her friend. She makes that decision prior to knowing that she would have the power to confront the monster, but she goes anyway. After the battle, and even though she she is injured, her first thought is for Wednesday. Everyone deserves a friend like Enid, but few find them.
She also didn't get to "wolf out" until she truly learned to love and accept herself and that she might not ever be able to. To be herself. And I think she learned that from Wednesday.
@@RandomSkyeRoses lots of us in the autistic community found a lot of ourselves into Wednesday and accepted her as autistic. But hey, if other people find themselves in her too, I'm not going to argue against it
4:37 I took something different from this scene. 1: Enid makes it a transactional situation, speaking to Wednesday in her own language 2. She put Wednesday in a position where she has to compromise, which earns Enid some instant respect.
And she does it for someone else! She takes the hit (of doing something she doesn't want to) for the pack to reconnect. So she uses Wednesday's language in a way Wednesday never would (until the end). This scene is what made her my favorite character in the show.
I think the thing I really loved about their shared hug is that at first Wednesday pushes back like she normally does. Right up until she sees her friend's face. Right until she sees how badly Enid needs this. And then she is the one that pushes the embrace the second time. And even when they are embracing you can see almost confusion on Wednesday's face as her eyes dart because I think she is surprised by the fact that she needed it too.
Enid went in to bat for Wednesday, put her own life on the line and quite literally saved Wednesdays life. The least she could do is give her a hug no matter how hard it might have been for her.
@@judgegiant8951 Im not disagreeing? I am just saying that it is emotionally more impactful because of it. And for someone that disdains hugging it is that much better.
My favorite thing about Enid is that she’s such a breath of fresh air from all the “baddies” and tough characters we see all the time She’s genuinely sweet, kind, and friendly while not being an airhead and it’s not seen as a weakness but as a strength She has heart and energy that I see in myself Enid made me feel better about my own sweet personality because it’s really easy to feel like you’re naïve or too kind in a world we’re everyone is outwardly tough but she showed that being kind is it’s own strength and you can indeed be your own person while helping others Thank you, Enid!
I do love that even though Enid is a hugger and super bubbly, she's also really fast on picking up on Wednesdays social cues and signs of affection even though they are completely contrasting to her own. Like when Wednesday took a step back when she tried to hug her, she instantly recognized and respected that signal, which is something not everyone can do.
I love how a bunch of characters in the show deal with Wednesday's general personality. There are moments when they give her pushback and she sometimes does need to hear that. But there are also moments where especially Enid recognizes who Wednesday is and she just works with it. She doesn't try to give Wednesday one of those "makeover scenes" they often have in shows, Wednesday is never forced to wear things she doesn't feel comfortable in, Enid gives her a Snood in her signature colors, she doesn't try to force Wednesday into a hug and doesn't get mad at her for not being a hugger. Also, despite how the relationship went later on, I loved it when Tyler planned a picnic in a crypt for Wednesday. Same thing with the birthday party for Wednesday in the crypt. Even when she didn't really react to the party, I still love how much effort they put into making something for her that's personalized. There's just so many cute scenes where they all accept Wednesday for who she is as long as she isn't actively hurting someone or something and I love it.
I think my favorite Enid moment is when Wednesday tells Enid that she never asked her to do those friend things for her and she responds loudly “you didn’t have to, because that’s what friends do!”
I know people ship the two of them but I think it was so important first that Wednesday learned to have and be a friend. I think they are both very similar too. They have strong personalities and while they grow they are not going to change who they are at their core to appease others. Wednesday isn't going to be perky to get people to like her. Enid isn't going to be gloomy to get people to like her.
Im a sucker for opposites attract trope 😂 I know it's more common that people who have a lot in common will likely end up together but I think thats why I prefer opposites attract trope. It shouldn't work but it does. The fact that two different people with different views on life, different lifestyles and different appearances manage to not only care about each other so much but also create a bond with each other that's irreplaceable Hopefully there isn't gonna be an arc where one of them gets a friend they have a lot in common with and the other feels jealous and a third wheel 😭 Cause I see that a lot with opposite attract tropes
@@remyhavoc4463 I mean in a way, it kinda hinted at it with the mentioning of Enid's new roommate. While it may come off at surface level as a sassy remark to get under Enid's skin...when they had that fight, I think part of Wednesday was kind of shocked and felt some emotions to Enid leaving. Obviously she doesn't want it to show and she tries to deny it to herself. But I still think that she was partially hurt by it. And then bringing up about Enid's roommate gives of a small, tiny ounce of jealousy. Something she doesn't want to admit to herself or others, so because she's like that for everything...it gets masked again. I feel like it comes together when she's packing up and Enid was looking for the nail polish...I think she realizes that Enid still cares and that's partially why she is questioning Enid about why she has came back 3 times.
I am bubbly af and I looove Enid. I see myself in her and it’s so awesome because opposites do attract. My bff is calm and timid and quiet, and I’m loud and well, bubbly. She’s also not a hugger, which I accept. I am 100%. I just see myself in her and I hope she never changes cause darling, Enid’s world is beautiful
Enid was the perfect character for Wednesday to play off of. She is an incredible bubbly, charming werewolf next to a dark cloud of a gothic witch. And she has self-esteem issues related to "wolfing out." She also won't take Wednesday's crap for too long. I didn't initially catch that her anxiety was why she couldn't transform. That works really well, and so does your Enid cosplay. I buy you as a grown-up Enid.
One scene that you left out which I thought was important is when Enid embraces her Father. He tells her that he is proud of her and you can really tell how much that means to her.
At one point, Enid admonishes herself to not be a doormat, "no one likes a desperate little furball." But she's really not. She accepts Wednesday the way she is "not a hugger. Got it." And she doesn't let people walk all over her: "this kitty has claws, and she's not afraid to use them," and "go apologize and I'll reconsider helping you." Not that she'll help her, she'll reconsider helping her. S, she is stronger than people give her credit for, or even she gives herself credit for.
Am I the only one who watched their dynamic and thought to themselves; 'it's like the two halves of my personality are seperate and they were turnt into roommates.' Enid is much like my default mode, and Wednesday is kind of like my serious mode, as well as the way that I deal with people who I dislike or have severely disappointed me.
Glad I’m not the only one. I can relate to Wednesday because I have depression and how she acts is how I feel when I’m depressed. Enid is when the depression isn’t as bad lol
I really liked the whole ending sequence with Enid walking out of the forest, I thought Emma Myers really showed her acting skills in just this short clip alone. You can see the shock in her eyes, then when she asks where Wednesday is and nobody says anything you can see her backing away a little looking around as if she was frantically searching for her, because you can see her thought process "are they not saying anything because she's dead?". Then when Wednesday and Bianca show up and she sees people walking up to them she takes these few steps forward and you can see at first that she is a little hesistant, probably because it's dark and foggy and she doesn't really know who it is yet. But when she realizes it is actually Wednesday she immediately runs to her, because in this moment she is just so relieved that her friend actually came back. I probably watched that scene more than necessary, but I just loved her acting in it so much.
Enid putting her arms behind her back when she talks to Wednesday show 2 things, she is open, honest, trustworthy, and she also respects Wednesdays bubble and privacy, nice touch
One of the things I love about this show is the way they show complimenting and contrasting personalities interacting and evolving off of each other. Even rivals who don't necessarily become friends find ways to work together for mutual benefit (Wednesday and the siren). Not since Arcane have I seen as realistic a portrayal of opposites interacting as realistically.
Finally a therapist reaction for Enid! I find her intriguing. I've been wanting to hear an analysis of her personality. She's a total opposite of Wednesday but they complement each other
One of the things my therapist is working on with me, is disproving my negative self talk. Which is a debilitating problem for me. Being bullied for my interests and for being Autistic, have not only made me negative, it has also made me very angry and anxious.
Just looking at therapy in a nutshell as well on YT, really compliment this as that one is really body oriented. Having tools to not only analyse but getting to the stuff stores in my body is provning really helpful and helping me to figure out what I need not only in my head but to get all of me .
Something that really makes me love this show so much is how the characters are so realistically portrayed. There are so many different personalities, backgrounds, struggles and strengths and they are shown genuinely. This show really opens your eyes to how everyone has their struggles whether as bubbly and positive as enid, or as powerful and confident as wednesday.
Tbh I love the word “normal” because when I am misunderstood or rejected for being “weird.” I just remind myself that I’m not the problem. Society just has strict ideas & expects too much from most groups. That is society’s normal. The problem isn’t always me, sometimes it’s just that I’m not what is expected
Honestly I related so much to what you said about Enid's character putting all her chips on the table. When I made the move with my now boyfriend I couldn't take the anxiety anymore and thought either it goes well or I finally know and try and move on.
I wish there was people in my Country talking about psychology publicly like this. So much ! All the knowledge displayed here about spirit and emotion really should be recognized as being of public utility !!!
I think Enid would have taken on the Hyde as herself if she had to. She let go of whatever was holding her back because her friend was more important. That let her become what she needed to be.
I feel like a whole episode could be dedicated to Wednesdays and Enid's room. Since the fact the painted side let's in less light then the clear side. It has a bit of yin yang feel
I have a very good friend who is really open like Enid... she's been burnt multiple times, but it's still her nature & she's so genuine & generous emotionally! ... it's so valuable to have a friend like this ... i'll support her to the end of the world!!
I really love the scene where Enid stands up to Wednesday. Admittedly, I did cry, but when I first saw it, I had been having a really hard time reaching out to a friend who was isolating themself. We live pretty far apart, so I would try to text them, but get no reply. I even visited them but they just stayed in their room the whole time. So Enid’s lines “tonight was the icing on the birthday cake you couldn’t be bothered to cut” and “I’ve tried really, really hard to be your friend” spoke to me a lot.
A lot of people were annoyed at Enid, which I get, but honestly I fell in love with her character. It's the bubbly, kind hearted, understanding friend so many of us needs, but not many of us have
"Yin and yang is a Chinese philosophical concept that describes opposite but interconnected forces." That's what Jenna and Emma were to this show. The highlight of the whole season for me was the friendship between Wednesday & Enid, both Jenna and Emma gave beautiful performances, they had such great chemistry & nailed their respective characters! I really hope we get a season 2 because there's so much more to tell about these two!
Given all the cat references, and the "conversion therapy", I thought Enid was going to turn out to be a werecat. Given the long saber teeth on her wolf form, I'm still not unconvinced the writers/directors weren't originally intending that.
That's a strange thing to fixate on. Werecats aren't mentioned at all in the series, and they're rare in general pop culture. They made it clear that lycanthropy is genetic, and Enid is a late bloomer. The cat stuff is just a sign that she's weird for a werewolf or maybe a bit of rebellion haha
Yes, Enid is not a big scary werewolf, she’s a dog, a werewolf puppy :) Or maybe a golden retriever 😅 She’s always positive and supportive, she likes attention and hugs. There was also a scene where she was sleeping while hugging her trophy after the competition - like her favorite toy 🧸 Also, yes, she has A LOT OF toys. And at the end, she also didn’t hesitate and jumped right away to save her friend from a monster, even if the powers might not have been equal. I wish I had a friend like Enid.
@@GeorgiaDow a fierce puppy, I totally agree! And thank you so much for checking out my channel and for your kind words about my work, this truly means so much! ♥️ I love psychology and always try to create deep relationships and grounded conflicts between the characters in my music and stories and, I have to say, your videos really help put things into perspective and compartmentalize things that I might naturally gravitate to, but, perhaps, not know the language to properly describe. I love that LOTR Ice Troll video a lot, by the way, perspective matters! 🙂
They did something right with Enid, and I cant put my finger on it. Usually this character archetype isn't for me; the bubbly, excitable energetic character is the type I'm quickest to ignore. Enid ended up being my favorite original character from the series by the end. Wish I could pinpoint why...maybe I'm just getting soft in my old age
I have some ideas, though there's no guarantee it's what you're feeling. She respects boundaries. While she herself is a hugger, she doesn't put Wednesday down for not being one. She's willing to help Wednesday despite being visibly uncomfortable. Even if she's being manipulated (and knows it) and goes into a perilous situation to help her friend. She even proves the manipulation wasn't necessary. All Wednesday had to do was ask, and despite the violation of trust, she still cares enough not to leave her friend in danger. Wednesday is used to danger, so it wouldn't have been wrong to leave her, yet she stays anyway.
Characters that look like Enid, blond girls always wearing pink, are almost always cast as the mean girl. The antagonist who embodies both the shallowest most toxic female stereotypes and also white supremacy. Enid subverts this trope by being none of these things. Instead she is nothing but loving and supportive. She can admit to being vulnerable without putting others down.
Oh Enid, I just want to protect her at all costs. She's absolutely adorable, excepting, and just wants to give everyone a chance. I liked her the moment she came on. And yes, it made me happy Wednesday was able to accept a hug from her; that's legit character development right there. It also shows that Enid was relieved to see she was okay. Also, thank you for saying courage isn't being not afraid but going in in spite of the fear. That's something that few people acknowledge or talk about. Thinking being brave is without fear, but I 've always disagreed with that. I doubt the marines at Normandy Beach in WWII were without fear. They were terrified I'm sure! But they did what their duty and helped free France.
I initially read Enid 's "bubbly-ness" as a form of anxiety, as if she was trying to project an "everything's sunny" vibe to cover her insecurities about not having completed something that is a significant milestone in her family and community.
kudos to the writers of the characters! these characters really do have, characters. the consistency of their personalities and self-images even allowing a therapist to analyze, deep dive n elaborates those characteristics as if they were real people. i enjoy this video ;-)
Your breakdowns are delightful. Enid is empathetic and very protective of her friends and loyal (wonderful dog trait). Enid is gentle even though she’s a werewolf.
I really like that Enid offered hugs throughout the series but never makes Wednesday accept them or be mad when Wednesday declines them. Enid knows and understands that it isn’t her Wednesday just isn’t a hugger. I also love that before the canoe race when she found out her teammate was sabotaged she didn’t ask Wednesday she was planning on finding someone else because she respected when Wednesday told her no when she first ask her if she wanted to participate.
Although it was a surprise, i think the talk that she had with Wednesday was a foreshadow to that. I went from, "oh my gosh stop being annoying and popular" to, "okay, you definitely are not an a-- and i want to see you be cool bc i now know that you can be" just bc of that conversation that Bianca had with Wednesday at the dance
Enid knows how to be a good friend! I wonder if that was born out the competition with her brothers and the rejection from her Mom. I was entirely frustrated with her Dad's behavior. He just stood there silently watching his wife be awful. Hyper awareness of other people's emotions sometimes are born from people just not caring or being careless with your own.
This is such an interesting video! I love so much this series and your take during this video! Enid is such an interesting character cuz she's bubbly and super optimistic, and over-excited, but at the same time, she's not lying to herself and scared to say her opinion and what she is or believe. Towards the end, when she comes back and say that they work, and that she will not excuse herself for being who she is bc that's literally who she is, like embracing herself, i found it super interesting; i believe it shows her strength. Cuz not only is she's already labbelled as an outcast, but bc she couldn't transform she was an outast in her family (or for her mom in a way), and i love how she's just still positive. She's not lying to hersekf. In a way, she's somehow similar to Wednesday. It's an interesting dynamic that these two share and it's amazing to see their relationship (and enid personality) grow, too! Thank you for this vide.
0:26 Wednesday stepping back is me 100%! I wanted the shrink away when Enid came up to her with open arms. That was too bubbly too fast for me, and I grew up with a friend who was bouncing off the walls constantly!😅 I don't like being touched by strangers, so I try to us body language to show that. Saying such tends to make things more awkward(in my experience, at least). Once I get to know someone physical touch is okay, a hug here and there, but I prefer not to most of the time. I'm glad Enid respected Wednesday's body language immediately.
9:29 I view Wednesday as my depression/ptsd and Enid as my adhd and positive hope filled self that’s able to drag me out of multiple depressions in my life. I loved when Enid has that moment when she’s fed up with Wednesday pushing her away...it felt like the moment my hope starts to leave and depression starts to set in. When I’m depressed I forget what hope and joy and positivity looks like and when I see it in that clouded state, my depression lies and says it’s not real. I start to view the Enid version of me as silly and naive and a joke bc that’s how so many people have tried to make me feel about that side of myself and I start to devalue that very important part of myself-she saves me. We need the Enid’s of the world and ourselves. They keep us going. They are what keeps the good in the world and they create more of it. Watching this show was really eye opening. Edit: last thing, it also makes me realize that my Wednesday/depression/ptsd side comes out to try to protect me from more harm when I meet my final straw as my Enid self. If everyone is going to hurt me and make fun of me for being positive, soft and kind, I’ll just turn cold and distant so no one can hurt me anymore.
The amount of subtle hints to her own insecurities and inner issues is truly impressive especially if you notice the people she hangs around with the most
Back when I was 20 I was hard working yes man I couldn’t say no and I was always finding positive in things and I learned the hard way mostly from my mom and dad That the world will take advantage of people like that so lately I’m learning to be firm with myself not afraid to ask for help and also learn how to not feel bad for just saying no and taking time for myself Still sometime I feel bad but than again in life you can’t always make everyone happy
I was actually really annoyed that Enid finally transformed into a werewolf at the end. I've seen this trope done a bunch in shows where you have this "late bloomer" kind of character with all this willy nilly "will they wont they" get their powers, and it always ends the same way, with them acting like they don't care and don't need it and are fine without it and then they get it at the very end when they need it to pull off the big save and big win at the end. The reason I dislike it so much is because it feels like they didn't actually learn anything or grow at all because their powers that they said they were totally fine without are what is NEEDED to save the day at the end and they are super stoked they got their powers too. I think it is a much more profound story if they NEVER get their powers. If the threat of "it may not happen" is actually followed through on. While I can think of many characters who follow the trope of "maybe/maybe not get their powers then gets it and saves the day", I can only think of ONE SINGLE character that goes through the same experience but never develops their power and actually, truly does learn to accept not having it and never getting it. That character is Scootaloo from Friendship is Magic. She had smaller, underdeveloped wings and while it was never expressly stated it was a disability, thats basically what it was. Throughout the entire series run, people wondered if she would ever get the ability to fly or not, because she couldn't, and so many people wanted that for her so badly, especially since she also wanted to fly so badly. But she never did. She is the only character i'm aware of who actually went through something like this. I guess this trope bothers me a lot because it does remind me of disability so much. Writers love to try to turn disabilities into "strengths" or giving you extra powers or that you spontaneously get over your disability and are then fully functional, etc. It just irks me to no end because that isn't what happens most of the time. And you aren't learning to live with it by constantly yearning for it and then suddenly getting it when the plot sets it up for the payoff. And in THIS show, they frame it like sexuality almost, even saying "conversion camp" and stuff like that, implying her mother somewhat rejects her because she "isnt right" and is trying to fix her. So the show is basically saying her problem is that she is gay, then she finds out she was actually straight the whole time and its framed as very celebratory and the happy ending because its what literally everyone wanted all along. Whether its sexuality or disability, it just feels really wrong and bad to me that the show is basically saying theres something wrong with her, then suddenly shes instantly cured and now shes normal and totally fine. Also, consider Enid's mother. She's going to be so much warmer toward her now and proud and etc. I think Enid's character and story would've been FAR more interesting if she had never fully wolfed out, and she just had to learn to live with that, and her mother had to get over her issues too to learn to love her daughter for who she really is instead of who she wanted her to be. That story would've been more profound and interesting, to me at least.
I love Enid not forcing a hug on Wednesday. A lot of people I know have wonderful, bubbly personalities, and accidentally forget their standard of physical affection isn't a universal one. But Enid does. She's respectful of others' boundaries and not pushy.
I love Enids nails in this!!! The characters are so well written and the actors are the icing on the cake. What a great production and I really enjoyed the show and the perspective it took. Feels like I've been waiting for show like this for centuries!
The hug scene was so perfect. Even when Enid hugs Wednesday in relief, she pulls back when Wednesday tenses up because she respects that Wednesday doesn't do hugs. But she also communicates how much she needs that with her eyes and Wednesday also recognises this and equally grateful that Enid is okay, notices she's had a tough time and needs this hug and decides that she can put aside a little discomfort on her own part in order to give her friend what she needs. And as others have said, realises that she needed that hug too.
I really like the touch that this therapist dresses into the character in order to understand it better. You really got my attention with such level of detail and immersion 👍
Honestly I wish the show was longer and we had episodes that focused on the other characters too because I definitely want more of Enid. I get that the shows name is literally Wednesday but I can dream right?😭
Love your analysis, any chance you consider doing one specifically on how Wednesday and Enid's friendship evolves? I was just rewatching the series and I found very interesting how in her own way Wednesday starts hinting that she cares about Enid, in that scene where she tells her "If he breaks your heart ill break his" without even looking but showing she's starting to engage in that friendship. :)
Ms. Dow, you are very gifted at non-verbal communication. Posture, hands, affect, facial expressions, eyes - the whole sphere integrated. 80+ percent of good, honest communication comes not from the words we use, but the way we use non-verbal cues. I absolutely did not realize until I was listening to one of your videos when I was cooking a meal. I glanced over at the video and immediately the point you were talking about became immediately clearer just by body posture, etc. You are an examplar of very clear non-verbal communication.
12:52 2 lines from a song I like that I think kind of relate to Enid and/or Wednesday are these You can't find yourself, when you are constantly forced to conform. Scars that cover wounds can't hide the self inflicted pain.
It‘s honestly crazy how opposites attract, and even help each other. I‘m generally a very quiet and anxious person, and I don‘t really like leaving my comfort zone unless I absolutely have to. My girlfriend is someone very loud and bubbly and maybe a little crazy, and whenever I‘m around her, it‘s so much easier for me to find that new, bigger bubble of comfort and do things I probably never would‘ve done without her. I just find it interesting to look at the brain work and thought dynamics between those relationships, because you can look and see how someone changes around different people and in different settings. I find it absolutely fascinating and so cool how our minds sort of automatically tell us, “Hey, different place, different people, so different act.“ Unless, y‘know, you‘re Wednesday Addams and literally couldn‘t care less.
love those two. perfect opposites attract, they grow to respect each other and have their emotional arcs truly complete each other. the dynamic is golden. truly hope we get to see the friendship grow into something more, there is such potential for an amazing story there.
You just described exactly how I feel about receiving complements and why they make me uncomfortable. I can never believe people are being sincere. And if I do think they are earnest I can't help thinking they are wrong, they are not seeing as I really am. Guess I might have a little impostor síndrome too.
Your remark on empathetic people being able to give more thoughtful gifts is spot on. From gifts to secret santa poems, I even written one for a total stranger once as a girl at this art center whom I followed cartoon drawing classes with didn't knew what to come up with for her classmate. I'm good at figuring out what someone likes and taking it into consideration.
I love that she chose to dive deep into Enid instead of Wednesday, even though Wednesday is the more obvious case study. Not only does it show what a lovely character Enid is, it also provides insight and contrast to Wednesday as well. Made for a richer video IMO. And fascinating info on people and relationships as well. Loved it!
Enid and Wednesday compliment each other. They're the perfect friendship. Enid brings out the light in Wednesday, and Wednesday brings out the dark of Enid.
not me getting halfway through and realizing i am very much like enid... this quote really punched me in the face: "people that are often super positive, that's the fear--they're so positive and caring and loving because they're so worried about being rejected and that if they were ever mean or confrontational or difficult, they would be pushed aside"
I think the reason why Wednesday changed the room and was a bit colder than usual was because she saw Enid gossiping about her. She will strike back if someone does something to her.
15:00 that whole scene hit hard. Like I’ve never been to conversion “therapy” but it reminded me of my relationship with my father, and how he refuses to accept me despite knowing for years that I’m queer. At this point I’m mostly numb to it, but there’s times I get jealous, because all I got was avoidance and intolerance from my father, and not comfort and acceptance. Ig im more like Wednesday in that fact lol- like I don’t trust many easily because I’ve been hurt emotionally by my family so much that I repressed it. Like- not that I don’t care about others, but the fear and trauma I have from my other relationships makes it hard to want to know other people.
You are absolutely right about "normal". I hate the term normal for the same reasons you described. There is a song with lyrics that perfectly sums up my thoughts: "Normal is not the norm. It's just a uniform"
Haha the video we all needed! I love this duo, they have the classic dynamic: Enid is the human embodiment of a golden retreiver while Wednesday is the black cat. I love Enid the most in this show. I am more of Wednesday type of person (not to that extend though) so I always happen to have friends that are very bubbly and lively, opposite of me. It's very tiring but if you can balance it's great. The problem is not always me getting tired of their high energy after a while but it's also a matter of me showing that I care about them because sometimes people like them take it as if I don't wanna be with them or don't like them or at least it shows like that. It's the opposite though, and I am definitely attracted to people who are more bubbly and friendly like a puppy. I just say "if I wanted to see someone who's always tired, sarcastic and grumpy I'd just stay at home and look at the mirror all day." So I prefer people opposite of me. Also, nice nails and cosplay Georgia! I don't know how people wear them either, it makes me very uncomfortable to have acrylic/prosthetic nails. I think wearing those in itself is a privilage since you shouldn't be doing any cleaning, cooking or any other hard work with them on your hands and just sit there like a doll. I also have a feeling it must be hard to wipe your bum and it could be a health hazard if you used those hands to knead a dough. Don't know about the wiping though, illuminate me since you have them.
What you mentioned the beginning of your video. Reminded me of my 1st day of kindergarten. We were in the gym I think for some kind of orientation. I remember there was a sugar cube on the floor. And that I was debating with myself on whether to pick it up and eat it or not. Would it make me sick would it give me super powers. I remember debating with myself in my head. To eat the sugar cube or not. My kid self That rarely got to have any sweets or treats, Strongly wanted to eat the sugar cube. My responsible follow the rules self. Was saying no because it was on the floor. I think I entered up picking it up and throwing it away. But I bring this up because. It was that moment that I realized I was thinking. I had always had thoughts where I was talking to myself inside my head. But it wasn't until that moment that it occurred to me that my thoughts had a voice and I was talking myself in my head. And I looked around at the other kids and I saw their eyes and some of them are talking and I was wondering if they thought too. Did they think and hear themselves like I did. And then I tried imagining myself behind their eyes. Does their thoughts sound like mine too or do they sound like their own voice. And I just remember that being like an epiphany moment kind of thing. I was 5. But then we had to lineup to be shown another place in the school. I might have actually eaten the sugar cube I can't remember if I did or not. It Was an intense inner battle. That became completely meaningless and unthought of as soon as I became aware that I was thinking and the other people might think too. It was a thorough distraction from the sugar Cube I must say.
I really hated the allergic to color thing mostly because later we have some scenes where Wednesday is sitting on Enid’s bed and Enid’s side of the room (not breaking into hives) lol.
Enid’s a hugger. Enid also respects others are NOT huggers. Wednesday steps back to not be touched or to get a bit of personal space and Enid acknowledges that without making Wednesday feel bad about her boundaries. Respect.
They did hug at the end tho. It would’ve been nice if Wednesday showed Enid appreciation in her own way rather than Enid’s way
@@rexibhazoboa7097 can you give an example of what that would look like?
It’s so refreshing for her character archetype.
She is a doormat and clearly hate it. Is with wensday that she manage to said "enough"
Hufflepuff.
What I love about this show is that it doesn't do the unnecessary and frustrating misunderstanding tropes just to drag on the plot, characters say what they truly feel and it is really refreshing.
I really liked when Eind just straigth up said that she was flirting.
And how the situation where Ajax accidently stoned himself and she thought he stood her up got resolved fairly quickly.
well there's only 8 episodes in the season
I think so XD

Wednesday needs to bring Enid home to her parents. Morticia would never shame her for not wolfing out. She would adopt Enid and admire how sharp her claws are
Yes! Yes, she would! And she’d insist on meeting Enid’s mother and she’d give it Enid’s mother both barrels with wit, charm and grace!
She may comment “pastels?” but then Enid will say “that’s who I am” and Morticia will accept her for it.
maybe even compare them to her beloved Rose thorns :D
Plus Morticia would not only accept Enid for who she is but she also give Enid some sage advice in the form of "If and when you do "wolf out" it will be on your time when you're ready to do it, not when someone else tells you to do it my dear but when you're ready to do it."
I love that they created Enid to be a very feminine but smart and strong character. Bc those things aren’t exclusive to each other.
It's refreshing ... but also very nostalgic.
Nowadays if Tv wants to make a strong and smart female, they just make them masculine, bulky and grumpy. I wonder when femininity has been labeled as a weakness, when it's actually the engine that makes the world run.
@@ShinryuZensen You'd be surprised at how many really think being feminine makes you weak.
Let's not look outside for a friend like Enid. Let's be OURSELVES a friend like Enid

Not gonna lie. I cried.
It is one thing to hug a friend, quite another to do so with a complete stranger. Add in that her family is not into hugging much either.
Yes, I saw that too. Nice observation.
My favorite thing about Enid is that she’s such a breath of fresh air from all the “baddies” and tough characters we see all the time
She’s genuinely sweet, kind, and friendly while not being an airhead and it’s not seen as a weakness but as a strength
She has heart and energy that I see in myself
Enid made me feel better about my own sweet personality because it’s really easy to feel like you’re naïve or too kind in a world we’re everyone is outwardly tough but she showed that being kind is it’s own strength and you can indeed be your own person while helping others
Thank you, Enid!
fr she makes me feel better too!
Same, it reminded me of moments I’ve had with my roommate lol
I know people ship the two of them but I think it was so important first that Wednesday learned to have and be a friend.
I think they are both very similar too. They have strong personalities and while they grow they are not going to change who they are at their core to appease others.
Wednesday isn't going to be perky to get people to like her. Enid isn't going to be gloomy to get people to like her.
You know what they say, opposites attract
Im a sucker for opposites attract trope 😂
I know it's more common that people who have a lot in common will likely end up together but I think thats why I prefer opposites attract trope. It shouldn't work but it does. The fact that two different people with different views on life, different lifestyles and different appearances manage to not only care about each other so much but also create a bond with each other that's irreplaceable
Hopefully there isn't gonna be an arc where one of them gets a friend they have a lot in common with and the other feels jealous and a third wheel 😭
Cause I see that a lot with opposite attract tropes
ooohhh that makes sense-
@@remyhavoc4463 I mean in a way, it kinda hinted at it with the mentioning of Enid's new roommate.

Am I the only one who watched their dynamic and thought to themselves; 'it's like the two halves of my personality are seperate and they were turnt into roommates.'
Enid is much like my default mode, and Wednesday is kind of like my serious mode, as well as the way that I deal with people who I dislike or have severely disappointed me.
Kind of same! Wednesday is my depression and ptsd and Enid is my adhd and hope that drags me out of my depressions.
yes definitely, enid is how i am while masking. if i didn’t mask at all i’ve been told i can be harsh and a bit cold, like wednesday lol.
Glad I’m not the only one. I can relate to Wednesday because I have depression and how she acts is how I feel when I’m depressed. Enid is when the depression isn’t as bad lol
It's the opposite for me lol. I act like Wednesday on the outside to protect myself, but I feel more like Enid on the inside
Same, truly….
I love the scene were Enid's dad is slowly uncomfortably spinning the marshmallows on the stick. It shows he knows that the camp is a bad idea.
I also like the fact that Enid compares the situation in her way by calling it the icing on the birthday cake she never bothered to cut.
I now need to go back and watch that scene. Thank you for pointing it out.😊😊
Enid putting her arms behind her back when she talks to Wednesday show 2 things, she is open, honest, trustworthy, and she also respects Wednesdays bubble and privacy, nice touch
When Wednesday and Enid hugged in that last episode, I CRIED. Not just a few tears either, like full-on cried.
Watching the whole arc from being a niche TH-cam channel to a full blown community has been a delight. You're the best-ia, Georgia.

Honestly I related so much to what you said about Enid's character putting all her chips on the table. When I made the move with my now boyfriend I couldn't take the anxiety anymore and thought either it goes well or I finally know and try and move on.
My favourite bit was when she stood up to her mum at the end of term, and her dad was clearly proud of her!

Bravo to Emma Myers for making her so likable! Stand-out performance, breaking star one too!
Wednesday and Enids hug is the best moment in the show to me
I really love the scene where Enid stands up to Wednesday.

A lot of people? What is there to not like? Wow 😯 😢

@@ghostchannel4766 She also has incredible inner strength.
@@ghostchannel4766 that probably has a lot to do with it. I've always appreciated people who are self aware, and Enid is definitely in that category
I think it’s bc she is a full character instead of a one note optimist. I am not a fan of these characters either but she was my fave 🎉
I love when Georgia uploads. I find her analyzation of characters very interesting. Even the smallest details are explained! I love it
I initially read Enid 's "bubbly-ness" as a form of anxiety, as if she was trying to project an "everything's sunny" vibe to cover her insecurities about not having completed something that is a significant milestone in her family and community.
kudos to the writers of the characters! these characters really do have, characters. the consistency of their personalities and self-images even allowing a therapist to analyze, deep dive n elaborates those characteristics as if they were real people. i enjoy this video ;-)
Your breakdowns are delightful. Enid is empathetic and very protective of her friends and loyal (wonderful dog trait). Enid is gentle even though she’s a werewolf.
Wolves are very gentle animals, makes sense Enid would be. They are fierce when they have to be, just as she is
I really like that Enid offered hugs throughout the series but never makes Wednesday accept them or be mad when Wednesday declines them.
I kinda wanna see one of these on Bianca, the twist of her mother being full on manipulative and emotionally abusive was one I didn't see coming.
I love the character of Enid precisely for all these positive qualities that I myself do not dare to use
That was too bubbly too fast for me, and I grew up with a friend who was bouncing off the walls constantly!😅
I don't like being touched by strangers, so I try to us body language to show that.
If everyone is going to hurt me and make fun of me for being positive, soft and kind, I’ll just turn cold and distant so no one can hurt me anymore.
your comment made me cry..i relate
Yup Enid on the outside Wednesday on the inside
The amount of subtle hints to her own insecurities and inner issues is truly impressive especially if you notice the people she hangs around with the most
Back when I was 20 I was hard working yes man I couldn’t say no and I was always finding positive in things and I learned the hard way mostly from my mom and dad
That the world will take advantage of people like that so lately I’m learning to be firm with myself not afraid to ask for help and also learn how to not feel bad for just saying no and taking time for myself
Still sometime I feel bad but than again in life you can’t always make everyone happy
I hope the second seasons shows an escalation of the conflict between Enid and her mother.
Agree
I love Enid not forcing a hug on Wednesday. A lot of people I know have wonderful, bubbly personalities, and accidentally forget their standard of physical affection isn't a universal one. But Enid does. She's respectful of others' boundaries and not pushy.
I love Enids nails in this!!! The characters are so well written and the actors are the icing on the cake. What a great production and I really enjoyed the show and the perspective it took. Feels like I've been waiting for show like this for centuries!
Luv her claws 💓 my kind of girl
The hug scene was so perfect. Even when Enid hugs Wednesday in relief, she pulls back when Wednesday tenses up because she respects that Wednesday doesn't do hugs. But she also communicates how much she needs that with her eyes and Wednesday also recognises this and equally grateful that Enid is okay, notices she's had a tough time and needs this hug and decides that she can put aside a little discomfort on her own part in order to give her friend what she needs. And as others have said, realises that she needed that hug too.
Let's be real, though she'll never admit it, Wednesday needed that hug too by that point.
@@marcellacassab4331 She did.
it’s always nice to see more content with enid since i feel she was a little underused in the actual show
I really like the touch that this therapist dresses into the character in order to understand it better. You really got my attention with such level of detail and immersion 👍
You're so welcome!
Honestly I wish the show was longer and we had episodes that focused on the other characters too because I definitely want more of Enid. I get that the shows name is literally Wednesday but I can dream right?😭
Something you don't usually hear a psychiatrist or therapist say.." She's going to be loved whether she becomes a Werewolf or not"
Love your analysis, any chance you consider doing one specifically on how Wednesday and Enid's friendship evolves?
Thanks for noticing and sharing that. I’m sure some find it distracting but it’s just how I talk : )) appreciate you
12:52 2 lines from a song I like that I think kind of relate to Enid and/or Wednesday are these
You can't find yourself, when you are constantly forced to conform.
Scars that cover wounds can't hide the self inflicted pain.
Gosh, I always love how your look is inspired by the character you are analysing. This is such an Enid look and I loveeee the nails 🥰
Thank you so much!! Happy you are enjoying it = )
It‘s honestly crazy how opposites attract, and even help each other.
I find it absolutely fascinating and so cool how our minds sort of automatically tell us, “Hey, different place, different people, so different act.“
Unless, y‘know, you‘re Wednesday Addams and literally couldn‘t care less.
love those two. perfect opposites attract, they grow to respect each other and have their emotional arcs truly complete each other. the dynamic is golden. truly hope we get to see the friendship grow into something more, there is such potential for an amazing story there.
Loved it!
She really does show golden retriever vibes and she respects personal space. which is both a win win
enid and wednesday hugging at the end made me tear up cause it was so sweet 🥺🥲
Enid is a friend that every girl would like to have, a wonderfully played character, I love her
15:00 that whole scene hit hard.
Oh my gosh, The way she's so proud about being devious and even that little giggle. I do the same thing.
she is adorable for sure
I see myself in Enid. It's so refreshing to see a character that shows how you genuinely feel and react to certain situations. Can't wait to see more!
You are absolutely right about "normal". I hate the term normal for the same reasons you described.
There is a song with lyrics that perfectly sums up my thoughts:
"Normal is not the norm.
I really appreciate how you change your appearance to resemble the characters in your videos, it's a thoughtful detail!
0:04 lol Jenna perfectly recreated the facial expression an introvert gets when they see they'll share a room with an extrovert
That hug they did have at the end though, that's the kind of hug true friendship is made of ❤️
