I don't know whether you know, but the song was written by Mark James, an American singer/songwriter, who recorded it the year it was written. The best known version, however, was that done by Elvis Presley. It was his last No 1 song. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, Mark James is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of."
Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them. To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song.
The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aries (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family.
Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).
The vocal gymnastics she can apply is mind boggling. For sure, the most versatile
singer of different styles and genres I have ever experienced.
Absolutely phenomenal performance from the genius with a thousand different styles and vocals, the first two little girls in the video are Angelina’s cousins her Uncle Mikes children, Uncle Mike is also Angelina’s manager, the eldest girl is Angelina’s sister Juliette , production input from Angelina’s Grandmother Mery Zamani, Mery is a talented Iranian artist and poet, the pianist is two Times Grammy Award winner Rob Christie the musical director of republic records, RR Angelina signed with at 14 years old, Angelina is paying tribute to Elvis with her black outfit and her Red guitar and Priscilla Presley hair style, Cover of a Cover as the original artist Mark James who wrote and recorded Suspicious minds didn’t achieve with his original, then Elvis Covered the song and it was a hit, also Republic Records are really appreciative of Angelina’s phenomenal talent and dedication to her craft they built Angelina her own studio,and they allow Angelina the freedom to flourish and progress in her own way, apparently Angelina has written over a hundred songs and I cannot wait for more of her stunning material, great reaction thanks!

The baby and very little girl are Angelina's cousins - the preteen girl is Angelina's sister Juliette and the Piano Player is Rob Christie Director of the Republic Records Los Angeles Studio which is the record label that Angelina has been signed with since she was 14 years old.
She plays multiple instruments, speaks four different languages fluently,
is an Author, having written a book
"BETWEEN TWO HEARTS"
based on her true experience.

Angelina is just magical and amazing, in every word, elegant and very sweet, she penetrates you deeply, she always has that inner harmony and somehow (in a way only Angelina can process) she is much more emotional than the Elvis' version. That's why she's known as the girl with 1,000 voices. She can actually change her voice around quite a bit, and even though you hear quite a lot of the depth of her voice from 6-8, she really developed the low part of it at age 12. She's probably classified as a contralto and possibly even as a mezzo-soprano as well. Her range is huge, but she doesn't like to show it off. She basically has a toolbox of different tools that she'll use, depending on the artist she's covering, or even stick to her own tone when she's doing an original. I'm not sure if you'll become an angel, but the people who follow her love her like she's a relative, and I hope you continue on your Angelina Jordan journey. ❤

@@larryward9958 We have visual; evidence that she can play the piano and guitar but only comments from fans that she "plays" flute and violin. It has been suggested that the most likely is that during her attendance at the After School Arts program she had lessons in both of those instruments but had never pursued them.

Power & Pure Velvet Perfection! This vocal arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt in collaboration with a stellar team including Rob Christie & Mery Zamani her Grandmother. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentine’s Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. Thus the Antique store, She grew up studying and performing these classics. That is Rob Christie on piano. Sister Juliette and a couple of Uncle Michael's Babies. I think that makes them cousins not nieces. Full Black Leather Bodysuit, the guitar from his concert in 68 and the hair a homage to Priscilla Presley. Yeah! She can bring tears to your eyes.
I base my interpretation on my knowledge of Angelina's journey from an 18 month old little girl singing a "classic" of music history 'I Will Always Love You' . She has been listening to these classics on repeat on YOUTube since then under the guidance and inspiration of her Grandmother Mery Zamani.
She has been performing these classics since her first time in studio at 6 yrs old.. She has continued this journey through her 1st introduction to the world with her "Classic'" 'Gloomy Sunday’ and following with her many performances at her many Jazz Festivals, TV performances, Concerts, and charity events, studio recordings and practice sessions at home accompanied or not. The location in the Antique store represents these classics (like the furniture) of another era. To me she portrays wonder at all these classics surrounding her. as she has travelled this road. Her tribute to Elvis is at her present age, today, each stage represented by her cousins and sister and ending with Angelina herself on the couch still admiring all this history surrounding her. The beautiful rendition of the song, and other tributes are in the leather outfit, Guitar and hair a tribute to Priscilla. ♥👣

Thanks for your reaction Fabian. Angelina is a huge fan of Elvis and has become friends with his wife, Priscilla. While the Elvis version of the Mark James song, is upbeat and he dances a lot, I prefer Angelina's version because I think she does a better job telling the story of the song.

Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Angelina’s sister Juliet sitting there, she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day.
Elvis' version is great, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own.
When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 83 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched.
Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song.
The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammys), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers.
The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister.

Pretty sure the flute ( which I’ve read was a “recorder”) and violin were instruments she was learning when really young and didn’t pursue, she kept up with piano and is constantly improving on guitar, tastefully adding accents while her skills grow

This had all the trappings of a well produced studio recording with very professional video quality. Why then was it not released on Spotify, Amazon etc? I can only presume it was the cost of rights. Maybe in the future it might appear on a retrospective album.
