@@joycejnn It does matter. The more cases (if they are new infections) the more chance - via probability - of mutations. We've been here before where hospitalisations were almost zero but cases were high in the younger demographics: more cases, more mutations and it one mutation ended up being lethal for the planet killing 100,000s (the UK variant). We hope that the virus won't mutate into something that can bypass the logic of the vaccines i.e. how they provide immunity: if we keep infections low or near zero the virus in the UK will die off, and we'll only have to worry about foreign imports. The virus isn't behaving as you would expect, very odd - it's getting worse rather than better (for us). The Indian mutation seems to be taking out younger people now.

Something I have not had an answer to, despite contacting various sources was a statement in a BBC report on the "monitored" Liverpool concert. The organisers said that of those who had been able to buy a ticket (3000 +) for the event, on the day of the concert 10% were denied access and obtained a refund because they tested positive for Covid on the lateral flow test. Bearing in mind we are told the prevalence of the virus was about 1/1000 (0.1%), there is a problem somewhere. Either the lateral flow tests are "useless" with 100 times the number of expected positive results, or the prevalence in the young is very much higher than the rest of the population, or the organisers got their numbers wrong..

I said there was a willingness to learn with science and an acceptance that at some point its position will be proven to be incorrect or in need of adjustment. that is lacking on social media. I will take that standpoint all day long and hold my hands up whenever I'm wrong, which I am, like we all are. .There is also a huge difference e between being biased and being complicit. Everything and everybody is complicit. Sometimes because of bias and prejudice. I took issue with your bias statement not complicity. I have no problem with faith of any kind. Apart from blind faith. 2 questions for Tim & Zoe team.
    1. Is it possible that Lateral Flow - and even PCR - tests may not be picking up Covid, post vaccines/post Covid infection? As it may “present itself” differently? Or(in the case of multiple variants) actually be slightly different?
    2. I have tested as negative for antibodies, despite having had Covid 3 months ago and my first vaccine 2 months ago. What research is being done I to this? How safe are people like myself?

Tim, the uptick in infections are not due to the slight release of lockdown, its to do with the indian strain, mostly in the north west. bolton is being hit, the Manchester area in general, wigan, even liverpool now. Also close to me near chorley, a college was shut down after 30 cases, some confirmed indian. This strain seems to spread more easily, but hopefully it wont bypass the vaccine too much, although they are saying it may do a little.

Thanks for picking that up, I have been highlighting it in the last 2 weeks reports and not getting any reply. It is now acknowledged that the App users are like me the worried well and there are insufficient replies from the areas with high communities. The government is now vaccinating all in these areas so are now recognising the issue; I would say not before time. They should have been doing it a month ago, the next 4 weeks will be critical.

The arrogance of the British response in the face of the Indian variant is alarming. It's almost as if we have learnt nothing about our approach.
    1) Flights allowed for 4 weeks after the Indian variant become known.
    2) Indoor mixing continuing on the 17th of May despite the massive increase in Indian variant cases
These will be the driving factor behind our 3rd national lockdown and the biggest regret of the British scientific community in 2021.

I am 63 us older people are being given the Astra Zeneca jab . There is lots of bad reports about it being peddled by the media . Then there is the rollout by our Federal government which has been very slow not like the UK where Boris has rolled it out quickly .

What I can’t understand with this government is they knew the danger of the Indian variant way before it got to this country but chose not to ban in flights from India for several weeks before they eventually did but as usual to late so now the response is a total knee jerk reaction and the usual scaremongering. Their motto seems to be absolutely no reaction followed by over reaction 🙄

I think the blood clots has been completely over played by the media because bad news sells. I think if you look at the risk factors of taking paracetamol or contraceptives etc I bet the risks are no worse or possibly better in respect to some serious side effect. We need to get a perspective on this. I'm sure it'll be discussed ad infinitum, but since its already been completely over reported I don't really want to hear it again unless there is something new to say about it.
