I always thought this was an overly complicated process but this video makes it seem incredibly simple. I have a couple units in need of some TLC, now I have the best guide on YT to help me!
Thank you for the very kind donation and words much appreciated 🙏 I hope this video helps you out on your FDS refurbing adventures. By all means please share your refurbing progress with me when your done. 👍🏼👉🎮😃
I remember doing this years ago and wow... this guide is so much simpler especially with the alignment! I remember back in the day slowly re-adjusting the head over and over again!
OMG I failed aligning the drive and avoided the Springs disassemble so I bought another Disk System already repaired. This is the most simple and straightforward video I have ever seen and I saw a lot of others. I am going to save this and try it out next time I need! Thank you so much!
I just purchased a Famicom and Disc System in Akihabara that was refurbished and modded to allow it to be used on an LCD TV. :D Fired it up at the hotel and I'm enjoyed the enhanced soundtrack to a couple different games. There are some mods out there that allow the re-writing of discs. Apparently people have been doing it since the mid-90s.
Congratulations on joining the FDS club! Re writing disc mod is an interesting one i may venture into in the future. One thing is for sure the Disk System is a Classic.
Going to try this method for sure ❤ I normally use another method that called the easy belt replacement but it’s not working for all disk systems. Thanks for this one 😊
Great! Glad to hear it. The easy belt method sounds interesting. I wonder if it is the same way i think it is🤔 There is an easier way but this is the surefire way to get them working 💪 😉 Let me know how your refurb goes. 👍
Have a sharp twin famicom --- trying to follow this video -- assume its the same drive as in the stand alone FDS.....took the three springs out -- the top black piece does not want to move - your video makes it look like it just pops out ez pz. ...no such luck
Try pushing the yellow button. If that don't work there is a white translucent release towards the back of the unit it's under the black piece so you may need a small long tool to unlatch it. Oh and yes disc system and twin fami disc are the same.
So fresh and so clean. Clean! I’m around 300 nes games. As cool as it would be to have a disk drive famicom it’s also just another pit of money that I shouldn’t spend unfortunately. Still so cool to learn more about the system
So many little and moving pieces. As always I enjoy your sense of humor and sound effects make me chuckle. At the same time very informative as well. It's a shame it never left Japan but very cool you got it up and running. If you're able to find a Scruffy non-working AES Neo Geo it would be a great video but don't now how easy it is to find a broken one on the cheap.
Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate that you enjoy my shenanigans too 🤪 It would be really cool to get a scruffylookin aes. Im sure it will happen eventually 😉👍

This must be one of the best fixing/refurbishing videos I've ever seen. Great job!
Wow, thanks for the kind words😊 Much appreciated 🙏🏿

Thanks so much for this! I tried another method to align the drive, with no success, but your method was solid! Great video overall!
Glad it helped! Please share it with anyone who may need it. Thanks and happy refurbing

God tier video, great job Scruffy!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.
😲 this is the best video about fixing a FDS i've seen so far!! Actually i saved it in my downloads and famicom repairs lists for future reference!!
Wow, thanks! I hope your referb goes smoothly 👍
Nice work, Scurffy! I have one sitting around here and I'll use yours as a guide. I didn't know it was that dead simple!
Carl! Good to see ya man! Its not to difficult just a bit finicky at times. Please share your progress with me when you are done.
Awsome job watched video couple times and did it the first time in 30 mins
I'm glad to hear this tutorial was helpful for you 👍👍👍

I know the feeling. There are so many systems out there its impossible to collect them all. Thank you🙏
The best and easiest method out there. I am 3 for 3 using Scruffy's method. All 3 read both factory and rewrites.
Excellent Tom! Im glad to hear this method is working for you. Means a lot comming from an experienced FDS refurbishing specialist😉🙏

Great work on this video! Taking apart a Sharp Twin Famicom must be even harder!
Thanks for the support 🙏🏿 Taking apart a twin famicom is not so hard just more parts is all. the disc system is still the same fix.
This is excellent. Going to give this a shot with my Sharp Twin Famicom.
Let me know how it goes👌✨️
I am well prepared now before buying my first Famicom Disc System! :D
Glad to hear it. 🔧👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
What a great tutorial! Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video and I might have missed it but why would a disk system play disc games like originals but not re written disks?
Good questin. Could be just a weak copy these disks are magnetic and are getting older so the chance of failure is high in my opinin.
It could be that the writer had a slightly different alignment.
@@charles2133 after repairing a few of these now I think that is the case.
Well done!~ Jedi!
May the Force be with you🙏🙏🙏
Yeah they're great and informative refurb. Never owned one, maybe one day.
Any chance we'll see a refurbishing of a Famicom Twin?😁
A very good chance i would say 😉🔧👉🎮
Great video once again mate, help me out here, what is the model name of that trinitron?
Thanks! I think its this one here👉Sony PVM-6041Q📺
My FDS has exceedingly long load times. I was playing Gun.Smoke and it was like 1 to 2 minutes load times between levels. Any idea why that might be?
Could be the belt is starting to go.
I tried with the same kind of belt, but it always slip up the white wheel when I turn it to calibrate. If somebody have some advice about that...
I would try using a slightly longer mobilon band that should do the trick
