Great episode. No young tattooer I know thinks about money. Something that comes with age I suppose. First thing on one’s mind is how to build clientele. How to do good tattoos. Before you know it, you have to get 2nd job. Scariest of all is how inconsistent tattooing can be. If I’m not wrong, it takes 5+ years to get traction. 10 years goes by. And then retirement plans at last minute lol.
Ya I think you’re right about that. It’s hard for a new tattooer to think about retirement or savings when living pay check to paycheck. Forget about paying taxes lol.
I reached out and did the hour long call to see what’s up with it. They seem very authentic. But it seems like they can’t really help too much with artists that are not at a certain level. I was told it would be $4,500 to pay for the coaching. And that would be great If I had an extra $4,500. There are alot of artists like myself who are living paycheck to paycheck who need some sort of financial coaching and help. It seems like they are more oriented towards helping those who already make a decent amount of money save and invest that money. I wish there were some resources out there for folks like me who are just trying to get the ball rolling.
