I mostly do large scale session work by appointment, but I find that taking small walk ins from time to time is a great way to keep my tattoo fundamentals sharp. I love your videos and share them with my artists all the time.
Even as an apprentice I told a few other apprentices to think of stencils just as lines (when it's appropriate) instead of the full idea. It helps a lot when you can simplify things like that.
Does anyone know the minimum line spacing (in mm) between lines to ensure they don't blur together over decades? Like, I know you can't prevent it altogether, but...I'm actually surprised how little information there is on that kind of nit-picky stuff and I wanna make good decisions here. Great content, tho.
you probably dont care but does anyone know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me.

Quick question. I see how you are holding the machine at an angle and how the skin lifts up from the opposing side. Over time I’m guessing that this can affect how it heals and create a side shadow . Or does this depend on the thickness/boldness of the line?
gooooooood lecture!! Would have been useful for me 6 years ago.. but seeing a straight explanation about the "work-bases" and the structure of development makes me lucky. seems like I´ve followed the right experiences.. respect for the work and greetings from Berlin! :)
Tattooing's hard I'm not a tattoo artist but I got so many tattoos I know how tattoos are. You got to be in good rhythm when you tattoo you got to have a good understanding of what a rhythm is. Your tattoo needle and your tattoo speed has to be timed well with your hand speed everything works together. I know there's different shading techniques like whip shading and different shading like that different liners different needles stuff like that. And line work for a tattoo is pretty important cuz it's a fundamental of a tattoo. You got to stretch the skin to penetrate the skin to get the needle or I never understood how to read a tattoo tattoo stencil. But I know most all artists do the outline first and then they do the color or the shading.
Well said. I have never consciously thought of the stencil as anything more than a reference, but that may just come from painting. Your explanation of it really connects with what I knew. Having said that, now I am probably going to consciously think about it the next time I am tattooing. hahah
Thank you for the advice! I have anxiety issues, so I shake quite a bit; this was very informative on how to control it. I've watched multiple videos and they rarely express this.
during the first few years of apprenticeship i always had the same problems. through repetition it starts to drastically go away but even to this day i still get anxiety before a tattoo! less and less each time fortunately.
I just did my first tat on another person yesterday and started off shaky because anxiety but I was able to fix any shaky lines as I progressed the shakiness went away. I noticed this fella used his left hand to steady his machine hand, I'm going to see how that works next tattoo! Keep at it y'all! I love doing it too much to let some nerves and anxiety take it from me!

@@beatsbymanolo1584 riding the tube is when you throw the needle out to the skin depth you want and you insert the tip into the skin all the way up to the tip of the tube and drag it across the skin to maintain consistent needle depth the entire time. Floating the needle not that lol.
I have a question id like to ask I'm learning to tattoo I've been tattooing on my own for a few years I picked it up in prison. But I've been using the rotary pen style guns and ive really liked the mechiens and for sum reason some times I can't get a my lines to stick to well. I dropped my guns recently and they are running a lil rough is it me or my gun thats causing it?
hey bro, i can't really help you much coz i have not tried pen type machines yet but i'm looking to get one soon. anyway, if you only have one machine then maybe that would be the reason. go and get some new ones or if you have a friend that has a tattoo machine you can ask to use his/her machine for just one session and see how it goes. if you're confindent about your line work then it is probably your tattoo pen that's giving you issues with your outlines. are you having the same issue with your shading though? sorry bro, i cant really give you a spot on answer coz i've been using coils ever since i started tattooing. let me know how it goes.. peace bro

The "grain of the skin" is a perfect analogy for explaining why sometimes its easier to get the ink in, going one direction than another.
