My undergrad studies were in psychology (neuropsych mostly) but many of the psychological effects you touched on as relevant to successful fundraising/business strategies peaked my interest even more as I start to learn about the science of non-profit organizations in entertainment of my own ideas which have been back burnered for years , haha. What are some of your fundraising tips?! Share for everyone!
I have heard it said that people will give to people or ideas... meaning either have a solid enough relationship that they would give you what you ask for no matter what... or have a vision they want to see become a reality so much so they will give to see that idea tried.
I can see how using these psychology tips could enhance this concept and make it more effective... I mean if people don't feel positive about the person making the ask... then they are less likely to give.
Exactly! Yes, it is about trust. People are more likely to donate to a cause run by someone they know and like (and trust)!

Great channel.
You were talking about seeding the donation box. Something I heard that may take some thinking to use, was a punch card where some business was encouraging repeat business. There was normally a buy five items, get one free, but as an experiment they created a card with seven spots. Then when they first punched the card, they punched two spots and said, "since you're such a good customer". Having multiple punches encouraged repeat business by the customer.
@@mikefeddersen2476 YES! It's very similar to that! People like to contribute when there's some momentum behind something. It feels less risky to "start from scratch"!

Definitely! I compiled a bunch of research from various academic and professional sources on fundraising; studies on the psychology of giving and philanthropy, etc. Studies from Isen and Levin, Harbaugh, Lyubormirsky, and others.
You mentioned your company is kicking off a campaign to raise funds to launch an actual building. So to have your own office space!

Kinda - we're actually trying to launch a community center! Our offices will happen to be in there, but the purpose is not to build our own office space, but to build a community space. Of course, the Coronavirus has put those plans on pause for the moment...

Hmm, I'm not sure! What I've learned through making these videos is that each type seems to have their own style of helping others, which I think is really cool. I am personally an ENFJ.
@@AmberMelanieSmith Good point. People usually claim ISTP's aren't the helping type, but their technical acumen usually makes them amazing helpers. ENFJs are good at inspiring helping efforts by others and leading them.
Purpose and impact 🤔 I’ve been contemplating on a non profit organization for quite some time, mainly because i spend a fair amount of time looking to implement what i feel like i can offer but never finding a vice in order to do so. If you read this, reply with an okay and we can find an effective and professional way to communicate my idea. Your video of stating “understanding the need” was all too easy to figure out. Why should giving make the giver feel better? I thought the purpose of giving is to make the recipient feel better- at least that's why I give
Hey Ryan! I don't think it's that it "should" make the giver feel better - I think that, psychologically, it simply DOES make the giver feel better! In my opinion, it is fine with me if a giver feels good by doing good. Better than them feeling bad about it!

Ryan Hanks the purpose of giving is just to give. The outcome of how they decide to take that is for them to decide. What you’ve given is all that matters.
