Code Foils | 188 AR and 175 AR Tails

  • The 175AR and 188AR Tail Wings are the next sizes up of the already available AR tails. They offer more stability and bottom end for learners and riders who need a bit more low end from their front wing. If you want to go your foil setup to go to a lower gear, this is the tail for you.
    The tails in the AR range are scaled up versions of the existing tails, so riders will find them familiar. The right tail for you will depend on your weight, desired discipline, and ability.
    For example, a downwind foil beginner to intermediate user would find comfort on the 188AR. It will help them maintain height, power, and security via a lower stall speed once up on foil. This tail rolls well for its size, but if you want more manoeuvrability, you may want to size down to the 175AR.
    A reminder that our bolt spacing allows for Code tails to be used on other fuselage brands.     What would the difference in stall speed, and speed range, and turning between for example a 850s with 142 versus a 720 with 188?

      Hi! Comments below are my personal feelings and everyone's obviously different.
      Generally I find the smaller tail are looser, faster and more fun but they'll sink faster on the mast - won't leave you propped up as high for long. So like to use them in bigger or more nuking conditions. Tail size goes up as the conditions get smaller or more mushy. You can make the setup even looser with a short fuse but comes with less pitch stability. 142AR is a fast tail.
      The 850 and the 720 with the 142 or a 150 tail is where I want to be in any discipline, but when the conditions light and mushy I'll go up to the 175AR. Stall speed improves, so does sink rate but at the expense of speed and obviously turning. It becomes more locked in and you'll likely need to shorten up your fuse. I shim the big tails flatter (neg1 degree) if I want more speed/looseness. Downwind if the bumps are slow I won't so that I can slow down and stay with the bumps a bit more - like a bay run.
      I rarely go to the 188 personally as it gets a bit rigid and locked in. It's awesome when learning and bigger, stronger prone guys love it for how it holds you up on the pump out.
      The 175AR is a great balance in the bigger tails if you have some ability behind you, especially in the lighter conditions. Its a lot looser and easier to pump and still holds you high on the mast for longer. I honestly prefer the 175AR over the 188AR and with the 720S personally would never go higher than the 175AR. I don't prone much over here though so can't comment too much on that.
      The best is to get out and demo if you can, hopefully some of this info helps though.
