please never go away from making ads like this. this is the best advertisement ever on possibly any product. i keep coming back to watch this commercial because it’s pure cinematic excellence. i had no intention of buying a volvo until i seen this. this spoke to me, it says something about the creativity, and thought at volvo. i purchased an XC40 two weeks ago. all because of this.
That’s a powerful statement to end on; ‘By not owning things you are not owned by things’. Volvos publicity videos are beautifully made and say so much without saying anything at all. It’s subliminal messages - I want a Volvo.
This is the most beautiful car in the world, my dream to have one of these, just a miracle even, congratulations to Volvo, I am a police officer here in Brazil, if I won like the American Cops I would buy one today, now.
Ever since my friend, Timmy Ghiurau started working for Volvo in Sweden, I’ve become a big fan. By the end of this year I plan to purchase my first Volvo car. Not sure how the prices for the electric models will change but those Polestar models look insane. If I can’t afford an electric one, I will still buy the XC40.
It's a ridiculous claim. Instead, you can be owned by the financing company, Volvo Financial Services, without having any collateral to get out in case you need to.
Great to hear that you like the XC40! If you let us know in which country you're based we'll be able to provide more info on Care by Volvo that applies to your market.
I own things but those things don’t own me. Whatever Volvo, I’m still a fan. I’m just waiting for the New V60 CC as I just can’t justify buying a V90CC with that ridiculous price tag for a daily driver.
This is filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. You can see the distinctive CN tower in the background of the “city” shots. Especially at the end of the commercial.
@@anglerfish43 I meant the "By not owning things, you’re not owned by things." concept, not the soundtrack. The "raindrops and roses" song is actually from 1965 musical, The Sound of Music (song title: My Favorite Things), so the PATD song is already a cover itself. ;)
Volvo is one of my love brands. I already ordered an XC40. And I know a little about visual story telling. In our content agency we watched the video several times: Great pictures, good song. But the story line is befuddled. What happens to the piano? Why the parcels? Who is the woman? And not at least: The car effects what purpose? And are you serious I shouldn't own the new Volvo? Won't you sell anymore? I guess, the slogan "By not owning things, you’re not owned by things" is right for our society but dangerous for a car manufacturer. Maybe you can convince me with some answeres.
I think, they are trying to give new meaning for car manufacturing. Let's check BMW's X2 advertisement: th-cam.com/video/LrBLNEAb6tM/w-d-xo.html If we look to the title, it says: "Be the one who dares". That means, if you buy this car, you will have the power, wow! I don't want to go into details. But in this video, Volvo's purpose is not pumping someone up. Car is just a car, it gives what BMW gives. (Volvo gives better actually :P )
Hi Wilfried, thank you for writing to us. This campaign puts focus on conscious consumption and encourages to reflect upon the things we surround ourselves with. We know that many people wish to buy and own their cars, but with the XC40, we offer a new and simple way of having access to a car through subscription. The campaign message might seem controversial at first. But when we look at the future of cars, we see that people are more and more looking for access instead of traditional ownership. Already today we are used to subscribing to products and services. Depending on your current life situation and mobility needs, you might prefer to subscribe to a car one time and buy it the next. We think giving the possibility to choose whether you’d like to buy or subscribe will benefit our customers. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us and feel free to read more about Care by Volvo here: www.volvocars.com/intl/cars/new-models/xc40
Thank you for your explanation. It seems to me this is step two before step one. You are right keeping the trend to vehicles-on-demand in mind. But different from Mercedes-Benz (Car2go) or BMW (DriveNow) Volvo Cars has not an established on demand or rent system. This lesson is not learned by the customers who don't know yet what "Care-by-Volvo" is. But now I understand a little better: You put both topics - new service, new model - into one spot. I guess (and not only me, my team as well) this makes it confusing. From our point of view you - the story teller - should not tell the story faster than the audience can understand - otherwise there is a big danger you lose them.
This story is not befuddled to me. Here is my interpretation: The piano hoisted into the air by a massive crane represents the weight of purchasing a physically large and complex object. The relentless package delivery, the drones, the crowds, the neon screens... all of this represents the rising and unnatural pace of consumption. Take a close look at the story. The hero does not need the selfie sticks and neon screens. She is a sophisticated minimalist driving towards the light in her XC40. Her car cuts through all of that bull shit delivering her to sunlight and fresh air. This spot is incredible and fresh. I disagree about this being a step two because the moment I saw the ad all I wanted to do was learn more. Thank you, Volvo. This is a beautiful and powerful film.
Hello, Volvo actually do have a service like car-2-go and drive now, they call it Sunfleet. We have it here in Sweden but I don't know where else they have started operating yet.
Be a slave to your hatchback when you need an SUV on the weekend, unlike the volvo customer who will be able to switch the hatchback for an suv on demand. (eventually). Enjoy the panic of a costly repair bill when your engine goes boom, unlike the volvo customer who can just pick up another car. This isn't about renting its about volvo supplying you what you need when you need it. Enjoy depreciation, buying a 40 grand car and after 10 years its worth 5-10 grand etc etc etc.
geroutathat Do you really think car companies would increasingly be pushing customers towards leasing, hire purchase, finance and now rent purchase options if it wasn’t economically beneficial for them? Landlords who run successful property portfolios have their costs covered for them by their tenants, they make a profit. Since housing is usually an appreciating asset they also benefit from that. The same thing will apply here. I will buy my cars, you will pay for them for me.
It's a ridiculous claim. Instead, you can be owned by the financing company, Volvo Financial Services, without having any collateral to get out in case you need to.
In advance: NEVER AGAIN "CARE"-BY-VOLVO!!! Worst service when it gets serious. Especially after an accident, the service matters. But I had to run after the rental car myself. Nothing is taken care of or the care is limited to forwarding to external service providers, without checking the implementation. This had nothing to do with "care". And goodwill is only mentioned, but if it becomes necessary, they refer to the terms and conditions and other information. The main thing is to cover the costs. I'll mark it off as a "negative experience".
Hello, we are sorry to hear about your experience. Please contact our global customer care team if you would like to discuss this further. You can email them at international@volvocars.com
@@VolvoCars I have discussed it several times. It's like talking to a vending machine. They always answer the same: "Unfortunately, it does. If you need help or have questions, we are here for you". Like your answer.
It's actually "My favorite things," but then Ariana Grande remixed the song and popularized it with, "7 Rings," but the song in the commercial is a completely different remix.
Hi Jan, Care by Volvo is currently available in Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Italy, Norway, Poland and the United States. Over time, we will expand the subscription service to more markets. Just let us know if you have any further questions!
As availability and pricing may differ in each country, we would suggest checking your local Volvo Cars website to see the most up to date information.
I remember I red on the website that the monthly payments go towards the final purchase price. You can buy back the car after contract for cheap. Not 100% sure about the details as it was all in Finnish
What a pile of self indulgent rubbish. Advertising should detail product or convey lifestyle, preferably both, this does neither. It's not aspirational, it's not intriguing...what a wasted opportunity.
Stupid cars, even more stupid ads. All for a tin box to get you from A to B. Driver is the variable here not the vehicle and there are some VERY debatable variables out there.
I just got to say, what a Terrible song choice for spring!!!! irritates me so badly everytime the commercial comes on. Winter holidays is the last thing I want to be reminded of.

Many of you came here for the music but the video itself deserves so much credit. Genius work
Thumbs up if you came after the music.
Mr. Mike here's an extended version of the song >> th-cam.com/video/pfp_Mpf-it0/w-d-xo.html
same but here guys th-cam.com/video/RnHc9L2N8y4/w-d-xo.html
I never feel this like advertisement....But a heart catching music video...Volvo♥️
Only came for the music lmao
I ll buy the car just for the ad. A proper advertising lesson. Dream ads for dream cars.
mercutzzio if you think you will be happy after buying this car - you are wrong. It's just marketing. They sell your wishes :)
If you got anything from the ad, the idea is to own less things that chain you. :)

they took it from John Lennon though

Try to move to america and you might be able to afford one :p
I was more meaning that it would be hard to make a decent life in Brazil compared to it's relatively close neighbor america :)
The idea of the whole video is actually NOT having one 😉

if you’re wondering where the song comes from it’s a cover from the original “my favorite things” sang by julie andrews in the sound of music (movie).
I came here for the music.

Anyone still staying for the stunning cinematography and music?

A worthy successor to Apple’s 1984 Super Bowl commercial
Girl wants to leave the crazy world of shopaholics behind. Forks out $35k+ for a family car and escapes. Mission accomplished.
Nice tune btw.
