The fact the 5'6" suspect and a 6'3" skinny kid were seen as similar enough to interrogate and make an arrest is a crime in itself. Wow.

Eye witnesses get details wrong all the time, so picking up someone despite a height discrepancy is not a crime. Unless one assumes the police are of defective moral character and not trying to actually solve the case. Stories like these do not help with public perception and make crime solving even harder.

Please parents teach your kids at a young age to always tell the truth when it comes to the law and don’t admit to anything that u haven’t done to police officers or detectives. Don’t lie for anyone no matter who the hell it is. Don’t talk to the law without them being there or a lawyer being there if they ever find themselves in trouble. Ignore them if u ask for your parent or lawyer. It’s sad this has to be done at such a young age but that’s how life is these days especially for brown skin minors.

Those detectives need fired! It’s insane what they did to that 15 year old. They tried to destroy that kids life. If they would’ve did the tiniest bit of investigative work before they even arrested him in front of his entire school then they would’ve found out he was playing a damn basketball game in front of a lot of people. And the one detective saying he was there for him (the 15 year old) and not the other detective is horribly manipulative. They should be ashamed of themselves. They are grown men and know damn well that kids are easily manipulated. They knew they were wrong. Police should be charged criminally and fired immediately when they do stuff like this. Laws need to change to protect kids and even adults from situations like this. Police shouldn’t be allowed to lie, especially to children. Police aren’t held to the same standard as everyone else and it’s bs. Thankfully there was proof of his alibi. Those cops are a joke.

It happened to me. They literally told me to admit to something I didn’t do or go to jail!! What kind of choice is that? So I admitted to something I didn’t do, wasn’t there, didn’t know about it. But I just gave up, cuz they obviously didn’t want the truth. So I told them what they wanted to hear and I went home. I didn’t go to jail but I lost my job because of it. My mind was completely blown.

Didnt a guy recently get charged with killing his father even though his father was not even dead and the detectives found out he was alive but never told the man and still interrogated him into a confession. In Fantana, California.

They way the detective did most of the talking trying to convince this vulnerable child. Is sickening, the other detective watching looks very intimidating to me. Lord knows we must teach OUR children to NEVER speak with detectives without their parents or an adult they trust. What kind of society do we all live in when you can't trust the police! A very sad daily reality!

This is known as the Reed Technique:
"The technique is known for creating a high pressure environment for the interviewee, followed by sympathy and offers of understanding and help, but only if a confession is forthcoming. Since its spread in the 1970s, it has been widely utilized by police departments in the United States."
    1) Dont talk to the police. Get a lawyer. You are granted that right for a reason! It will *not* make you look more guilty.
    2) the things you say, not just can be used against you: it will be weaponized and used against you in court. For example: you get arrested, the cop asks if you take medication. You answer honestly "Yes sir. I have ADHD and have a prescription for Adderall" .....when you get to court, you will be met with "when arrested, the suspected admitted to regularly taking amphetamines."
    3) If you didnt do anything wrong, then dont say you did. Always have a lawyer present and make sure you listen to the rights being read to you! If you arent under arrest and just being questioned, oftentimes: youre free to leave. You can get up and walk out. If you stay and miss speak, you may wind-up in jail. 👍
    4) when youre being read your rights, understand that even the cops are suggesting that you not talk to them
    5) Cops usually can't make deals with you. So, say you arent a great human and you murdered someone. The cops will say something like "Maybe, things got outta hand. you felt threatened and defended yourself. Youre not a cold-blooded killer! Maybe you had to defend yourself and you killed them in a justifiable manner? is that what happened" ....they may already have enough evidence to convict you for murder, not self defense. All they need is for you to confirm that you did, in fact, end a person's life. They don't have to tell you what they know. They also are not lawyers or judges....so them suggesting that you could get less time or a lower charge, is often BS.

@@sunshinedaydream70 I agree. The Reed Technique often....doesn't work. It works enough to continue being used, but.... that's why you have the right to a free attorney. They will be able to stop tactics like this.
Forcing a false admission of guilt is a constitutional rights violation, as you have the right to not self incriminate. If you are coerced into it, then it violates more rights. 🤷🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️
So, I'm not sure why they risk it still... 🤔 🤷🏽‍♂️

These grimy cops never allowed the child to speak they kept him persuaded to just say yes and agree. I'm wondering how they were able to keep him so long because as a parent i would be suing the department since he is underage. These are how young black men are treated everywhere in America and we must be mindful to teach our sons to ask for an attorney and keep their mouths shut. This is just sad that the police are still employed when they're horrible detectives and their work shows it.

It’s not a big deal… he was 15 so even after Miranda rights were read… the kid is a minor so his parents MUST consent to their child participating in the investigation… without that consent the cops are wrong and the parents should sue… the cops shouldn’t be punished or fired though… they are supposed to figure out wtf happened… but now… of course by nonviolently destroying the rights of a child for the purpose of fighting crime could save their badges but now this kid gets A BUNCH OF MONEY!!! Congratulations Martel

Especially considering that it is legal to lie and manipulate a suspect in an interrogation, it’s absolutely ridiculous and disgusting that it’s also legal to question a minor without a lawyer or guardian there. This kid is not mentally challenged, but this reminds me of Making a Murderer when they coerced a false confession out of the slow cousin and convicted him. Kids and mentally challenged people can’t profess interrogation tactics and can be convinced to say anything.
I hope the Behavior Panel covers this.
