Just want to add a bit of motivation/positivity from my perspective- A levels can seem like they are going to be impossible and seem sooo much work and as if they are never ending.. but trust me you CAN get through it! I thought I would never be able to learn everything and I would never get the grades I wanted, but I managed to pull through and surprise myself. Yes it's not easy and the weeks before the actual exams were one of the most stressful times of my life... but it's now all over and I came out with grades that I am really proud of, and now the stress of A levels seems like a distant past time that I have forgotten about (lol how deep) It does end, and if you put in the work you will surprise yourself at what you can do!
whenever I watch eve I get weirdly motivated to work hard especially her school videos like it's 11.15 pm and all I want to do is maths revision. I'm so weird
Oh just thought I'd add English Lit is deffo the one I cry over the most, mainly out of frustration hahaha but yeah if u don't wanna cry all the time then don't take it!! (I also got another essay back and it was a high B again so progress is being made) 🙂
Revision With Eve you need to understand how clever you really are❤️ everyone has different standards & you obviously set yourself a lot of high standards and you have achieved them. Just treat yourself sometimes & believe that you can do these things because you can x
Revision With Eve , I'm also taking English lit at A-Level and it's by far by hardest one and I'm dropping it ASAP lmao, I got full marks at GCSE and at a level I physically cannot do it so I feel your pain, I would say hang in there but that would be very hypocritical bc I am dropping it Monday morning 🙂
They say that from the transition from GCSE to A-Level you will drop two grades if you don't put in more effort which shows just how hard the step up is. But the content does get finished in time (we finished at easter then straight onto revision) so don't worry about it!
You can definitely get through it! It feels like hell when you are going through it but it's worth it. I was achieving D/Cs around this time in year 12 and I left sixth form with A*AAB. Keep going!
I found my first year difficult,I struggled with the workload but Im finding 2nd year so much better!! I think its possible to learn everything just dont panic :)
It is most definitely possible to learn all the content by the end of year 12! I'm in year 13 now and in my GCSEs I got 4Cs,4 Bs and A and in my AS's I got two Bs and Cs ☺️ I honestly believe if you have a good routine for homework/study time you'll be absolutely fine! Like Eve I have around 12 frees a week including a Monday off on my new timetable! I really struggled with English lit/Lang at AS but I just did an extra essay every week and asked my teachers for practice questions which also helped time management! I find at A2 I'm struggling more with psychology than last year which stresses me cause I want to do it at Uni! However today I voluntarily did extra questions as I've been getting Ds in psych when I got B last year 🙃 anyway good luck eve and everyone else in GCSE/sixth form years!
I also continued with English this year and my teachers have said that my extra work I did last year is really paying off with the coursework I have to do now and I'm much better with structure ☺️ I dropped World development because I found it quite Dull!
You've given me so much hope. I got similar to you at GCSE, and felt pretty awful about myself to be honest, because I really wanted to do better. I got onto my A-Level courses, but am completely failing Biology. I'm hoping I can pull it all together.
Psychology can be tough at times but I know quite a few people who do it with maths and they can cope! It's my personal favourite subject but you do have to work hard at exam technique x
Emie Alice I'm a current year 10, but I do understand as my year is the first year where the 9-1 grades are in all subjects! They are so annoying though, wish it was still A*-G
I finished sixth form last year and although I can't say it wasn't difficult its definitely possible to maintain A* grades! I finished my A2's with A*A*AB and received an unconditional to UOB :) You're a smart girl Eve and I know you work hard. If you keep up like you are you'll ace AS and A2. Best of luck to you in your studies and don't worry if you aren't getting A's in every test throughout the year, it all comes together towards exams. It's a whole step up from GCSE but you can do it :) x
I agree with what you said about lit 100%. It's v v intense but the most improvement tends to be made at the v end according to my teacher so do not worry as you will get there.
Lucy Roberts I'm not eve obviously lol but I can give you some advice on GCSE options from someone who is in year ten: please please please know what you like, and know what you're good at. Don't convince yourself that you like something just because you think it will look better on a cv, or you think it will be easier, or you think that it makes a good combination with your other options. Don't listen to what anyone else tells you about the GCSEs that you're considering because anyone in your year nobody has done a GCSE yet, even if you or your friends have older siblings because they would have done the old GCSE. This new GCSE starts for my year (I'm guessing you're in year nine), and it's completely different to the old one. So absolutely nobody knows what they are talking about, unless they were involved in the production of the new GCSE syllabus and exam. Basically what I'm trying to say is know what you truly like, because you would surprised how ridiculously easy it is to convince yourself that you enjoy something. Put as much thought into choosing your options as you can, and work super hard this year because it will help you for year ten. Hope I helped! Good luck xo
Lucy Roberts I'm in year nine right now and we picked out subjects in year 8 so we could get used to the new GCSE and have enough practise so that by Year 11 we're used to it. I picked Business studies, P.E, History and Triple Science. My best advice is pick what you like and make sure you know about what you're picking. I'm horrible at homework so I made sure the subjects I picked on my own (I didn't choose Triple Science, I was forced to) had less homework. Go to the teachers of the subject you're doing and ASK? I know some people in my year were scared of asking SOO they ended up picking subjects they thought were easy but actually needed a lot of work done at home. Also, don't be worried about the New GCSE. It's not easy but since year 9 are the first doing the full new GCSE's the grade boundaries will hopefully be lower except for the 9's. Just make sure you do your work and know what you're doing.
Hi Eve, I'm in year 13 at the moment and DO NOT PANIC about the amount there is to learn! When I was in at the stage you are in in year 12, I felt really overwhelmed by the volume of information to learn (I did English lit, geography, RS and Drama) but it is possible to learn it and come out with good grades, especially somebody like you who is really good at revision technique. English lit is a tricky one, but just make sure you keep on top of making revision cards for quotes when you can and don't feel disheartened if your grades are lower than you were expecting. The quotes really made me feel anxious last year but when it came to learning them, you know more than you think and in the exam you don't have to write it exactly - you can give an overview of what it says if you have a blank! Sorry for the long comment, but I hope that helps you feel reassured :)
Get the CGP revision guide and do loads of past papers. For every question you get wrong on the past paper, make notes on the part of the topic you got wrong, if that makes any sense :)
MYGCSESCIENCE not even messing i owe that man my gcse atm and also for physics try 'mr pepperell' on youtube. For both watch the videos and make notes throughout then put all the info on a colour coded revsion poster and then make revision flashcards on each unit. If youre taking AQA honestly, mygcsesciene. Its normally £50 for sepearate sciences or if youre taking combined and applied its probably a but cheaper but my achool got a discount but honestly its 100% worth it xxx
Same! I need a lot of help with science ! I'm trying to use flash cards but I don't know how to set it out etc. Can someone explain to me how I can revise most successfully with flash cards?
Hii, I have finished A-levels and now at uni! Not going to lie it is hard but you will get through it, it went soo fast for me. I did all essay based subjects and to get a B at the beginning of A-levels is amazing, most people I know at A-levels dropped around two grades. If your worried about getting the grades don't stress, as long as you get enough to go to what you want to do after then it doesn't matter (I say that I can understand the pressure to do well when your in the middle of it) however most people at my uni got well below what they needed to get in. Good luck!!!
Lee hey, I know you were asking Eve and not me but I found if there was 2 TH-cam videos I wanted to watch (just as an example, Tv programmes etc work) Id do 2 pages of revision then watch them. And so on and so on! 😊xx
There's many ways to motivate yourself: 1. Listening to music as you study 2. Having some snacks to keep you going 3. Setting yourself targets and rewarding yourself when you achieve them 4. It seems impossible at the beginning of year 12 that you're going to know everything by the end but honestly it's all fine!!! I'm in year 13 and everything worked out! But yeah English lit is v hard at the beginning....I would recommend making like a mini book of quotes now instead of doing it all at Easter 😘
I'm currently in year 13, I completely agree with what you said about year 12😂 and yeah I felt the same, I thought it was impossible to learn everything ! But it is possible! trust me, start revising just a bit earlier and you will get there😊 good luck for the rest of year 12!! x
Thank you so much for uploading this, my depression is eating away at my motivation and seeing how you're dealing with it and seeing that you're in the same boat as me makes me feel a bit better edit: not with the mental aspect but with the whole worrying about how much there is to learn
I'm currently in year 13 studying business, English language and English lit and at the beginning of year 12 I was already wanting to drop out. I hated it! I thought I'd made such bad decisions with the subjects I chose, I barely knew anyone in my lessons and I just couldn't get my head around some of the things we were learning. Now, I'm pretty happy with my chosen subjects and I don't hate it as much. English lit is definitely the subject I don't like the most. I'm studying Emma, an anthology of 12 poems, twelfth night, the importance of being earnest, the kite runner and the handmaids tale and I have a three hours mock in a few weeks on ALL OF IT. It's the most time consuming subject for me as it's just constantly reading, redrafting coursework and making notes. Despite this, it does feel pretty great when you get an essay back to find out you haven't done too bad. I feel like the way you're going about A Levels is definitely the right approach, I regret not spending my frees last year doing work - instead I walked around Durham and did some shopping. Not good for my brain or my bank balance! You're making life so much easier for yourself and I'm sure you're going to do great. At the minute I'm attempting to juggle homework, revision for mocks, coursework, note making, a part time job, driving lessons, my UCAS application and a blog and I'm stressing like mad. This video has definitely made me want to write a blog post about how I'm currently finding A Levels as I feel like I would've loved watching the type of videos before going to sixth form back in year eleven X
Really enjoyed this video! I'm in year 13 now so I can say, don't worry! You will manage and trust me, you're already so firm in your foundations just by keeping on top of work as you go along so keep doing that and I PROMISE you that you'll be absolutely fine! Remember that at A Level you really can trust your teachers too because they're more expert in their subjects than at GCSE. This year my work load for music seems impossible, and I really struggled to manage it last year. But this year I know the teacher knows what she's doing and I 100% trust her because she got me through last year! So you're doing the right thing getting to know them and following their advice. Also, Bs in your first essays?! That's so good! You still have so much time to improve so you'll definitely be on solid As by the end. As for language speaking, everyone freaks out at the start. You go from that lovely GCSE memorisation to complete spontaneity at A Level! I'd recommend getting a speaking buddy to practice with on a more regular basis and naturally your grammar will improve. Your grammar is still growing as well at the moment so I wouldn't worry about it too much at this stage. I'm studying El Labriento del Fauno this year too, although we've not started it yet, I'm on the old spec so we started with the play (la casa de Bernarda Alba) but you've got me looking forward to the film now! I think with languages you just have to continually expose yourself to them- reading news articles, listening to the news and writing summaries in the language, pen pals etc. I got As in French and Spanish last year and I can say it just takes practice. Don't get disheartened if you don't get As in your first writing and speaking assessments- it's not only the language you have to get right, it's the new style of exam technique. My French teacher openly admits that he purposely lets us fail at the start so that we then listen to him and take on what he says. Honestly, you're like the dream student. Putting in the work from the very start is how you succeed. There are students who won't start working until about April so you can count on them to lower the grade boundaries! xx
But it's totally possible to learn it all! Honestly, start revising by christmas it will help SO much more when it comes to your AS'. then taking it on to A2's you'll have the information cemented more. Also, 100000% drop a subject at A2, life with 4 A Levels on the go is basically impossible! Good luck!! x
The thing I find disheartening with A levels is that an A/A* at GCSE is equivalent of a D/C so I feel like Im doing shit but really I've improved from GCSE it just feels like I haven't if that makes sense
My A-levels were a bad time for me. I constantly was in tears and didn't understand the high level of work- I ended up dropping out. I'm now finding the university level course I'm doing so much more achievable!! Don't be discouraged if you feel that Post-16 is not going well for you. It really feels like the end of the world, until you find your new path.
I'm now in year 13, I studied subjects such as philosophy and ethics, and psychology which both had SOOO much content that we had to learn, I promise you by the end of the year you will be able to learn it all. The whole year I believed I was going to fail because there was too much to learn, but by the end of the year you will have gotten used to it and it becomes a lot easier and I came out with A's in all my subjects! Keep doing what you're doing Eve!xx
I finished my A levels this summer and got AAB in English, Maths and Biology. I felt overwhelmed at the start of y12 with the volume of content but it is possible. My main advice would be do not feel like you have to continue 4 levels in year 13, it is 100% NOT worth it, Universities only want 3. A fourth will not give you a higher chance of getting an offer, its more important to have an amazing personal statement (thats a fun thing to do at the start of year 13 along with all the work :) ). All that happens if you do 4 A levels is uni's will probably offer you a space based on all 4 and it puts so much pressure on. Focus to three i cannot stress it enough!!! I really wanted to continue all 4 but exam time is so stressful theres no way I would've got the grades I did if I had done 4. Have fun though honestly, sixth form years were the best years of my life!! Good luck xxxx
Year 12 is hard but you can do it so long as you start revision early, I actually started revising later than I did for my gcses and I came out with AAAB last year which is way better than my GCSE grades
Hey, I'm in year 12, doing English Literature too and I've found a great app that helps with both critical quotes and normal novel/play quotes called 'Memrise'. It's really helping me for A Streetcar Named Desire and The Tempest, so I hope the books you're doing are in the app too ☺️.
You had to do that anyway😊I did lit this year and got an A😀Best way to remember quotes is to write them on post it notes or colourful pieces of card and stick them EVERYWHERE in your house and i mean EVERYWHERE😂I had a few on my ceiling above my bed, the TV, the microwave, the front door etc. This way you see them when just caring on with life and learn them with 0 effort as in like opening a book. It helps soooo much to do that. I remembered every single quote I needed to know and more because i decided to write more quotes than was needed. Hope this helps
I'm in year 13 now and honestly you will be able to remember the content. I got 4As at AS and you just have to constantly go over your stuff the whole year through and treat your mocks as the real thing because then you truly know where you are at! You sound like you're doing the right thing though!:)
It is entirely possible to learn everything by the end of the year Eve, I'm currently in year 13 and I have no doubt that you'll do amazingly well because of how focused and driven you are. So don't worry, keep going as you are and you'll smash them all! xxx
I'm in y13 now. I found the start of y12 not bad at all, as they were slowly getting us into it rather than throwing us in at the deep end. I found that after Christmas it gets tough, but even so y12 does not compare to y13! It gets tougher and more demanding. Advice for anyone in y11 is not to pick English language! I got an A* at GCSEs and now getting D's. It's very very different and challenging
I'm in year 13, don't worry you'll be fine! As long as you put the effort in like you always do you will do fab!! Don't worry you'll learn it all!! Love you lots xxxx
I'm German and I still love your videos about a-levels and school in general! I find it so interesting to learn about other country's school systems by people actually talking about their experiences! And you get me so motivated too!
Having gone through college and gotten to university I can very much relate to how you feel. Alevels are all new to you, and you really are still just finding your feet. You will notice as you go along that it gets easier (particually at A2) to know how to manage your time and revise, as well as what revision techniques work best for you. I stuck with most of my revision techniques from GCSE but a lot of people had to change things up. Your doing so well so dont panic!
Loved it eve ! I've also just started sixth form and I agree with you idk how I'm going to get through everything but a lot of people have and I'm sure we can too !! 😚 Love u xx
I'm in year 13 eve, and honestly it seems really bad now but you can do it. Just make sure you actually do the revision which obviously you will and the exams are not as bad as you expect, it seems a lot when you're learning it but when you have finished the course and go back to revise you'll realise you already know a lot! Just try not to stress because you will be okay!! Xxx
I finished my Alevels in June 2015 and honestly when you finish and get your grades it's the most rewarding feeling ever. Getting into uni is my biggest achievement so far and all the hard work pays off whatever path you choose for after college xx keep going gal xx
Year 12 is a struggle as you don't realise how much of a big jump it is because it doesn't really seem like a huge difference. Although, you may not get the grades you want as you don't realise it's so much harder but it's a lot easier to then get a really good grade in year 13!
I am currently in my second year of A level English Lit and I totally get you, my grades went the exact same route as yours, however I am making slow progress and my teacher apparently believes Im going to make it to an A, so have faith, work hard and don't overthink it. I also found it overwhelming to learn the quotes and critical quotes, but I picked a bunch, memorised them and I didn't have trouble at the end of year exam with forgetting them or not having a quote to apply to a point- I hope you enjoy it more as the year goes on!
I'm in year 13 and don't worry you can learn it all. You've done the right thing by starting to make notes early and you will honestly be fine by the exams. I was the same and didn't know how I would learn it all but I had it all learnt by the exams. Good luck.
I'm in my first year at King's College London so have just completed my two years at sixth form. Learning content is definitely doable!!!! Think you've definitely got it covered as you mentioned making revision notes as you go along - that's the biggest thing I'd recommend. Good luck! Xx
Hey Eve, I just finished year 13 at the end of June, it is possible to learn everything but my main tip is revise all year around, if you start doing light revision in the beginning of the year then it's easier when you come to the exams. Also I took English Literature and I got sooooo stressed in my last year that I completely screwed myself over in the exam so I'm retaking my exam again this year. Don't stress over it, there's no rush to finish A levels in 2 years, stay sane my love x
Rebbecz well a revision time table would help, but then some people do certain things to revise, and like do something before it like exercise before revision and stuff and set treats
Eve I am in year 13 and I have hated every day of AS. I thought it was all to much. But to my surprise I got through my AS's okay (B,B,C and a D), but honestly I thought I was going to fail the whole thing. I think my problem with A-levels is nothing comes together till right before the exam. It's not like GCSE when things are done a few months before the exam then you can just revise and that stresses me out. The thing I love the most is frees because I can grab a coffee and get on with the endless list of things. Year 13 is better I think because you get into the swing of things and have one less subject on your hands. I mean UCAS is a pain, but my top tip for that is work on your personal statement and right at the beginning find out all the exact modules for your exams at the beginning of the year before the stress kicks in, other than that it's simple. Sorry for the rant, but it will be all good and worth it in the end. X
I finished doing my A2 exams in the summer, but I totally agree with all the stuff about English Lit. The abilities of the English Lit classes were very mixed ability, but for me it was quite a shock because I was an A/A* student (for English that is) at GCSE and I just struggled so much at A-Level. I didn't end up doing it at A2 because it just wasn't working for me 😪 also amazing that you're doing politics! I did aspects of politics in AS/A2 history (I did the making of modern Britain for my course!) and wasn't interested at the start but by the end I loved it! British politics is my favourite so I've got my place at Newcastle Uni to do politics next year (I deferred a year) good luck with everything! 💕
I've done my A-level in Spanish as a native speaker this October and it's not as easy as you think I mean is compulsory at our school but if you don't necessarily enjoy lit (like me) you will have to work on it. I'm also doing french A2 at the moment and languages are complicated but they require much less studying. (International A-levels)
I'm a Year 13 student who is doing A2 in Business, Maths, Computer Science, French and Spanish (just finished). At As I was doing those subjects (AAAA) plus Physics which I dropped this year because I got a C. Just in case anyone has questions about my subjects
Hello!! Im currently a year 13 student and gosh i understand how you feel.. i felt like that, infact i still do!! Work work work is my tips however, you really need to not over work yourself, and actually your teachers will help you a lot i promise!! I didn't realise how much they support you, and it is possible i promise just make sure you are learning early (Like you are now) and you'll ace it!!!
I'm in year 13 now and it will work out how you want!! Just make sure you go over your work quite a lot and it will stick in your mind. It is really tough and you do get stressed but the most important thing is to have a lot of sleep and give yourself time to relax as it will reduce your stress. It is unlike GCSEs where I stayed up revising for hours and only got 5/6 hours sleep - A Levels you need a LOT more but you will get there!!
it's honestly fine, I'm at first year uni studying medicine and I got 4As at AS you really don't need to do much more than the homework, remember if the year above you survived it, you will too!
Dora Barnes which uni do you go to? Because if you're studying medicine I believe you want to be a doctor, nurse, surgeon, paramedic etc? Don't you have to get an A* for that?
Helin_ M. I'm at birmingham & I did get A*s at alevel. I only mentioned AS because Eve is currently at AS level, where you can't get A*s, also, most unis, for medicine, don't require A*s. Look up newcastle and Manchester for instance. It's even possible, if you come from a failing school to get an ABB offer xx
Don't worry about English Lit! I was the exact same as you, I cried all the time and wanted the highest marks because of how hard I was working for it, but the hard work usually pays off at the end rather than immediately, I always wanted an A in lower sixth (AS level) and I got a B, despite all of my hard work. However, in Upper Sixth, at the end of the two years, I jumped from a B to an A*. Just keep working the way you are, it will pay off! x
Eve you will honestly be fine. I'm in year 13 and I managed my alevels being the most unorganised person with b's. When I was doing AS philosophy we had to learn and memorise a crazy amount of essays and quotes and I had a mini mental break down often doing those but I did it and you'll smash it because you're so organised and good at planning and also your attitude is so positive and you can really tell you want to do well!💖💖 hope that helped 💖💖
I'm in year 13, and you will get through all the content! I thought that about chemistry and maths last year. you may finish the spec in mid April like I did,but of you keep on top of revision from the earlier learnt stuff then you'll have plenty of time to prepare for exams. As grades aren't the be all and end all either. my targets were CCC and I got DDC. Tthis year my targets are BBB, but I need AAA for uni, it just takes a lot of hard work, and you're clearly cracking on with that now.
I would like a video on different ways to revise like things on the computer and like mind maps and bullet pointing things and maybe a video on how to organise your desk since you said you are getting a new one xx
Ive just finished year 12 and I went through the whole of it worrying that I wasn't going to be able to remember content and quotes and stuff, especially with English and history, but I managed to come out with b's at as so it does turn out better than you expect! I even managed to drop 2 marks in one of my English exams which extremely surprised me!
I finished 6th form last year and after Christmas in year 12 is where it gets really hard, I honestly mean this, good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour.
It's possible to learn!! I promise you! I'm in my 1st year at University now and I was exactly like you are right now by I got my 3A*'s. My ultimate tip is revision notes as you go along! Makes like a whole lot less stressful at the end. 100% you are doing more than anyone else! xx
Hi Eve! Could you please make a video on how you revised for your English lit exam as I have to take mine at the end of this year (even though I'm only year 10!) and I have no idea how to revise for it properly. I just had my mock and I'm pretty sure I completely failed it so I was just wondering if you had any tips? xoxo
I'm in year 13 and trust me when I say this, you can definitely feel the change in revision and pressure wise as you're wanting to get the grades for your top uni (if you're going). I completely agree with you and having that relationship with teachers!! You can honestly talk about most stuff you wouldn't be allowed to in GCSE of lower down in the school. I'm studying Media Studies, Photography and English Language and it's quite good tbf but you do have to keep revising. When taking exams, I'd say for the hour before the exam, just do something to relax your nerves, but like don't make yourself forget everything.
eve omg your skin looks really nice in this video also your eyebrow are looking fab lately! please do a room tour i think we would all love that. but for this channel could you do videos on motivation to study and do well? and maybe how to stop procrastinating!
I started sixth form at the same time :) im finding it amazing, its so much LESS stressful than gcses 100%. Im only doing three - geography, biology and chemistry, but I absolutely love it! 😬💖
immiajo Yeahh!! But deffo think about doing chemistry too depending on what you want to do in the future - theres not much you can do with biology degree wise without doing chemistry aswell & it link in SO well. x
I am in my first year of uni now and I found year 12 so difficult to adapt to but you learn how to deal with it. The best thing I did in year 13 was revise as I went along like go over everything once you have learnt it and make revision notes and flashcards etc so at the end of the year you aren't wasting your time doing that. You will fit it all in and you will go over everything continuously with your teachers so by the end of the year it will be stuck in your brain. Your grades will go up as you carry on and learn how to write differently. You sound like you are working amazingly at the moment so I guarantee by the end of the year you will be absolutely fine!
It is manageable trust me, I'm currently in my 2nd year at uni. A levels are challenging, but you need to devise a schedule of revision, so what subject to revise at what time. Yes, there is a lot to learn but if you're doing it as you go along and coming back to it you'll be fine! :)
it's genuinely possible to learn everything i promise! i'm in my first year at uni and when i was at your stage i was freaking out about all the content but once you step back and plan your time (which i know you can definitely do having watched your revision videos before!) it'll all be put in perspective and you just have to get through everything and make sure you know what is the key information and what is the context! seriously i stressed out for the entire 2 years at sixth form especially because of the pressure of getting the grades for university and it wasn't until results day that i realised i was fine all along - if you know your stuff you'll get the grades! i was expecting like abd or so thing after sitting the exams but i ended up with a*aa and i couldn't believe it! you'll absolutely smash it eve don't stress too much :-)
We've done our mocks already this year and my advice would be to start revising early honestly do not leave it to the night before because you will most probably have lots of exams on one day. On one day I had 3 exams. I would also stay very organised because it will make you feel more calm and focused. I hope that helped in some way 😂 goodluck !!💗💗
Phoebe Mountain treat them like a real exam, honestly it seems soo silly to take them extremely seriously but you should, i didn't take mocks seriously and now i wish i had. Although i never did 'bad' in them i know i could have done better overall if id have tried in mocks x
Make good notes (revision cards, mind maps etc just whatever works for you) and keep them for your real exams honestly, try really hard for your mocks and you will have less to revise when your real exams come
I'm in year 13, and you'll get there! You might not get the grades you want 100%, but on the most part they don't count, so it's okay! There is a lot of work, but when you start looking at universities and what you're going to go on to do, it gets a lot easier to focus!
Hey Eve, im in Year 13 and honestly it is possible to learn everything! it depends on each subject, mine are english literature, psychology and sociology and they all have a ton of stuff and names etc. but it is possible! definitely! especially with your good work attitude:-) Hope it goes well for you:-)
It is most definitely possible to learn all of the content for both AS exams & A2 exams by the end of the school year! When you start it can sometimes feel like teachers are asking too much of you but as long as you keep up with all the work and use your free periods productively you will be absolutely fine. :)
I am in year 13 at college and I agree that there is so much more freedom and the banta with teachers is great ahah! I definitely think that you can learn it all for your exams, my year is the first to not have AS levels counted towards A level so if you mess up its not all bad news as you retake them all the next year anyway x Good Luck with you'r exams lovely x
Hi Eve! I'm a first year uni student studying French, German and Spanish! I studied French, German and English Lit at a level so I understand exactly what you are going through! I can assure you you will get through it- with English Lit I agree with you it's the biggest jump from GCSE to A Level. I started the year with B and C grades having got an A* at gcse- but you will improve I promise! You are doing the right thing with the amount of reading you are doing. For quotes I wrote them down on a revision card- one or two quotes per card- and organised them on my wall so that I could visualise them- I would organise them into themes for example or literary techniques. I read them out loud once a day and it was the best thing I did! I would also say that you made such a good decision doing English Lit with languages in terms of your analytical skills and also how language works. It's fab to see how much you love languages- I'm obviously with you there- and there are lots of degrees that offer politics and history modules alongside language modules! I still find speaking the hardest and I'm at uni- watch TV, listen to news broadcasts and listen to French songs- this will help immensely! Good luck with your AS levels- my twitter handle is @gracekirb so if you had any q's about uni, languages or english lit I'd be happy to help :) Keep doing what you're doing! -Grace x
hi, im currently doing year 13 German and found year 12 very hard in the first term but the Vocab step up really pays off especially in the final term- you can see your ability basically rising by the week! And if you work really hard at this stage it definitely pays off in the run up to exams! Good luck for all your A levels :)
Hey Eve. Great video. Do you think you could do a video showing your mind maps and talking about how you do them? And also talk about how you revise? Xx
I'm sitting my GCSE's this year and am definately also struggling with all the quotes. We have a new system for English literature, language& maths which requires you to learn a ton of quotes for the whole text questions and practically the whole section you've studied in the poetry anthology... Keep pushing at it and you'll get those grades:)!
you will get through year 12:(!! all the crying and sleepless nights towards exam period i got through it !! and im sure you will do extremely well! i got 3 A's and a B in AS &&& you are sooo smart so you will pull through and get your grade's don't worry☺️☺️x
I'm in year 13 now and I assure you that you can learn everything by the end of the year but you have to make sure you work outside of school which you do. Don't stress about it too much you will be fine, if I can do it you defiantly can❤️
Don't worry about English Lit! I regretted taking it all year and genuinely had breakdowns everyday about it. Over the year your exam technique will improve and the amount of quotes you remember will increase. I was in the same position as you, aiming for an A but by the end of a year I would have been over the moon with a C, but I still managed to get an A. As my Lit teacher said see it as kind of journey because it's so so different from GCSE! xxx
You're so right about everything. I'm doing y12 in a British school in Spain. About the teacher they do get much nicer, they start talking different to you and telling like more personal stuff and I've also been called things by my teachers😂 I'm sooooooo stressed because of y12 and there are days I just cry. And this year not only I'm doing Spanish and English but I'm also taking German classes and CPE English classes and I've noticed a big difference between the CAE and CPE
I'm in Year 13 and you do learn the content in time for AS. At my sixth form we had a technique for Y12 revision leave, we had to spot our areas that we hadn't quite understood fully and work on those and that really helped. Also you do actually know more than you think you might!
For A-levels I am thinking of taking Chemistry, Biology and Spanish but I'm most hesitant about Spanish... I really enjoy it but I'm not very good at speaking it. Please reassure me it's possible to improve... Loved this video btw. Please do a GCSE mock exam tip video next! :)
I've just finished my A2s and am now at university and there's absolutely nothing to worry about! Just stay on top of your work and you will know everything by the time exams come around! Usually colleges/sixth form will put on revision sessions closer to exams which will go over all the topics incase you feel like you've missed something. It feels like it at the time, but it's not impossible! 💪🏻📚
i'm year 13.. i don't want to sugar coat it and say it gets easier because it genuinely doesn't, but with hard work and using your time wisely you'll get there! I take biology, health and social and RS (i am wanting to do midwifery hence my subjects) and i have had to prioritise biology as it is a hard subject with alot of content..my school advised us to drop a subject when we moved to year 13 to make things easier for us which meant i dropped sociology. I can guarantee you will do amazing in your exams.. just carry on with it! there are days when i have absolutely 0 motivation and sometimes they are the days where you need to move away from your work and take some time off as you won't learn anything! just keep going, you'll do it!
also i totally understand where your coming from about having a good relationship with your teacher.. one of my teachers has taught me since year 9 and we are literally best friends - makes my life soooo much easier!
I dropped a level French after about a week because my teachers were speaking in French for the whole lesson and we did basically all speaking activities in class and I'm so shy and I hated it so I left and took up sociology instead which I honestly hate too😩 I also take psychology (which I hate so much and I cannot understand it at all) and business which I love😂 I'm honestly considering dropping out at the end of the year and going to college🙁 I hate a levels so much!
I'm doing English Lit, I agree it's definitely a big step up 😞 I have been studying Streetcar and it's honestly a great text, quotes are much easier to remember too because it's so short! Hope this gives you a bit of hope for after Christmas 😊
I have just finished yr12, and its possible to do it! most subjects have become linear so this years exams are just practice, you can see what you know and what you need to work on ❤️ When you talk about english lit, i completely feel the same way what books and exam board are you doing! Just keep working hard and you will do great.🙈
I am british but I live in spain and I am fluent in spanish. I take english in a spanish school so what you are doing in spanish, I do in english. As i am fluent in english as well, when speaking a different language it doesnt really matter about the grammar so dont worry about getting the grammar correct.
Yes it's not easy and the weeks before the actual exams were one of the most stressful times of my life... but it's now all over and I came out with grades that I am really proud of, and now the stress of A levels seems like a distant past time that I have forgotten about (lol how deep) It does end, and if you put in the work you will surprise yourself at what you can do!
sophdoesnails omg soph you watch eve too!
whenever I watch eve I get weirdly motivated to work hard especially her school videos like it's 11.15 pm and all I want to do is maths revision. I'm so weird
Oh just thought I'd add English Lit is deffo the one I cry over the most, mainly out of frustration hahaha but yeah if u don't wanna cry all the time then don't take it!! (I also got another essay back and it was a high B again so progress is being made) 🙂
Revision With Eve I think you are so inspiring it just shows all the hard work pays off
Revision With Eve you need to understand how clever you really are❤️ everyone has different standards & you obviously set yourself a lot of high standards and you have achieved them. Just treat yourself sometimes & believe that you can do these things because you can x
Salimah thats what im doing this year and im just crying all the time
Revision With Eve , I'm also taking English lit at A-Level and it's by far by hardest one and I'm dropping it ASAP lmao, I got full marks at GCSE and at a level I physically cannot do it so I feel your pain, I would say hang in there but that would be very hypocritical bc I am dropping it Monday morning 🙂
Revision With Eve a
They say that from the transition from GCSE to A-Level you will drop two grades if you don't put in more effort which shows just how hard the step up is. But the content does get finished in time (we finished at easter then straight onto revision) so don't worry about it!
Good luck to any year 11 who have their mocks soon!! I'm terrified lol
ItsCatMat my mocks are in December right near Christmas.. yay! 😪
Same good luck
ItsCatMat my sister has done them already, and for me it was one of the most stressful experiences of my life
Same
Mine are on Monday 😑
You can definitely get through it! It feels like hell when you are going through it but it's worth it. I was achieving D/Cs around this time in year 12 and I left sixth form with A*AAB. Keep going!
I'm in my third year of university doing history! I got A* A* A A and honestly you will be fine! It's more than possible ! You got this
You should make a video explaining your whole GCSE experience and how you found it x
Mountium X NOT ONLY IBZ MO, BUT U WATCH EVE BENNETT TOO
GEEZ MAN ICU EVERYWHERE!
DO U WANT TO GO TO CAMBRIDGE TOO? 😂😂
I found my first year difficult,I struggled with the workload but Im finding 2nd year so much better!! I think its possible to learn everything just dont panic :)
Please do like a motivation video for gcses! I usually use your results video because your grades are my goals!
Ciara Martin hey, would you recommend taking psychology for a level or would it be too difficult to take along with maths and history?
You've given me so much hope. I got similar to you at GCSE, and felt pretty awful about myself to be honest, because I really wanted to do better. I got onto my A-Level courses, but am completely failing Biology. I'm hoping I can pull it all together.
I'm glad I could help! Just keep working hard and ask your teachers for help, you'll get there! X
Psychology can be tough at times but I know quite a few people who do it with maths and they can cope! It's my personal favourite subject but you do have to work hard at exam technique x
Current year 11s: Don't you find the new 1-9 grades annoying?
Emie Alice honestly no idea how it works
Emie Alice I'm in year 10 but I have the 9-1 specification, it's soo frustrating.
Emie Alice its literally the most pointless thing 😂
Emie Alice I'm a current year 10, but I do understand as my year is the first year where the 9-1 grades are in all subjects! They are so annoying though, wish it was still A*-G
Emie Alice I used to but I understand them now more than I did before
I finished sixth form last year and although I can't say it wasn't difficult its definitely possible to maintain A* grades! It's a whole step up from GCSE but you can do it :) x
hint of blush hi what a level subjects did u do
I agree with what you said about lit 100%. It's v v intense but the most improvement tends to be made at the v end according to my teacher so do not worry as you will get there.
+Ella Metcalfe that makes me feel so much better x
Revision With Eve please do a video on picking gcses
I would like how to revise for gcse science!! xx
beauty bears search Mr Thornton get a c in your gcse. His videos are great :)
beauty bears get a revision book and go to town on flashcards :)
Do you have any tips for motivating yourself to study?
Lee hey, I know you were asking Eve and not me but I found if there was 2 TH-cam videos I wanted to watch (just as an example, Tv programmes etc work) Id do 2 pages of revision then watch them. And so on and so on! 😊xx
Hey Grace, thanks for the advice! 😊
There's many ways to motivate yourself:
1. Listening to music as you study
2. Having some snacks to keep you going
3. Setting yourself targets and rewarding yourself when you achieve them
4. Studying with friends. Collaboration is the best way to learn and retain information
4. Stay positive.

But it is possible! trust me, start revising just a bit earlier and you will get there😊 good luck for the rest of year 12!! x
A video on how to stop procrastinating/ study motivation would be so helpful 💜
Thank you so much for uploading this, my depression is eating away at my motivation and seeing how you're dealing with it and seeing that you're in the same boat as me makes me feel a bit better
edit: not with the mental aspect but with the whole worrying about how much there is to learn
Remember that at A Level you really can trust your teachers too
because they're more expert in their subjects than at GCSE.
There are students who won't start working until about April so you can count on them to lower the grade boundaries! xx
In depth history revision video please
But it's totally possible to learn it all! Honestly, start revising by christmas it will help SO much more when it comes to your AS'. then taking it on to A2's you'll have the information cemented more. Also, 100000% drop a subject at A2, life with 4 A Levels on the go is basically impossible!
Good luck!! x
This is irrelevant, but I'm looking at this and how tiny you were and how much you grew and changed - nostalgiaaaaa
The thing I find disheartening with A levels is that an A/A* at GCSE is equivalent of a D/C so I feel like Im doing shit but really I've improved from GCSE it just feels like I haven't if that makes sense
Phoebe Kate a D is equivalent to about a B , definitely not an A* xxx
Hey Eve, pls could you do a mind map video and how you specifically revise. im struggling so much with finding an effective revision method
You feel like a big sister to me
I'm now in year 13, I studied subjects such as philosophy and ethics, and psychology which both had SOOO much content that we had to learn, I promise you by the end of the year you will be able to learn it all.
You should do a video on how you revise for these alevel subjects and show us some resources
Year 12 is hard but you can do it so long as you start revision early, I actually started revising later than I did for my gcses and I came out with AAAB last year which is way better than my GCSE grades
Hey,
I'm in year 12, doing English Literature too and I've found a great app that helps with both critical quotes and normal novel/play quotes called 'Memrise'. It's really helping me for A Streetcar Named Desire and The Tempest, so I hope the books you're doing are in the app too ☺️.
Eve I'm in year 13 and in History and Sociology last year I managed to remember enough stuff to get Bs so keep going! 💞
Haha, we have to learn quotes in the new 2017 GCSE for literature 😂
You had to do that anyway😊I did lit this year and got an A😀Best way to remember quotes is to write them on post it notes or colourful pieces of card and stick them EVERYWHERE in your house and i mean EVERYWHERE😂I had a few on my ceiling above my bed, the TV, the microwave, the front door etc. This way you see them when just caring on with life and learn them with 0 effort as in like opening a book. It helps soooo much to do that. I remembered every single quote I needed to know and more because i decided to write more quotes than was needed. Hope this helps
Chelle Belle Thanks I'll definitely use that 😂
Nebula - Agar.io yeah I'm having to do that this year too. cry for days 😂😢😢
Georgia Leigh Yup quotes with structure and form points too haha!
Omg no not the poems 😭
And the 3 closed books, yey 😑
Could you make a video on gcse English language? Im really struggling this year (im in year 11) with this whole new spec
Please make a video on how to get top grades in english lit or history / how to revise for these subjects x
Revison routine
Sophie Xxx you just revise you don't have a routine for it wdym
Rebbecz some people do have a revision routine, because if you have lots to revise for, they set a routine so it all gets done
Ella Bella you mean a revision time table?
Or a after school routine
It is unlike GCSEs where I stayed up revising for hours and only got 5/6 hours sleep - A Levels you need a LOT more but you will get there!!
it's honestly fine, I'm at first year uni studying medicine and I got 4As at AS
you really don't need to do much more than the homework, remember if the year above you survived it, you will too!
Dora Barnes which uni do you go to? Because if you're studying medicine I believe you want to be a doctor, nurse, surgeon, paramedic etc? Don't you have to get an A* for that?
Helin_ M. You can't get an A* at AS, only A level
For a revision video: How did you revise/get through GCSE history? What resources would you use to revise? Techniques? Thankyou :)

Biology is soooo hard omg😂
Julie Laightwood Is geography and biology good?? I've applied for them to do next year 🌟
Meg Walker I feel like there's more to memorise
immiajo Yeahh!! But deffo think about doing chemistry too depending on what you want to do in the future - theres not much you can do with biology degree wise without doing chemistry aswell & it link in SO well. x
immiajo biology is alright but does takes up a lot of my time because of how hard it is 😂 I was good at GCSE now I hate it 😂
I am in my first year of uni now and I found year 12 so difficult to adapt to but you learn how to deal with it.
it's genuinely possible to learn everything i promise! i'm in my first year at uni and when i was at your stage i was freaking out about all the content but once you step back and plan your time (which i know you can definitely do having watched your revision videos before!) it'll all be put in perspective and you just have to get through everything and make sure you know what is the key information and what is the context! seriously i stressed out for the entire 2 years at sixth form especially because of the pressure of getting the grades for university and it wasn't until results day that i realised i was fine all along - if you know your stuff you'll get the grades! i was expecting like abd or so thing after sitting the exams but i ended up with a*aa and i couldn't believe it! you'll absolutely smash it eve don't stress too much :-)
although i didn't do any of your subjects tbf so can't talk about the content of those - but i did economics, maths and geography and it ended up fine
Mock exam tips for gcse please !! Xxx
Phoebe Mountain yessssss
Phoebe Mountain Omg yes please!!
Good luck with your AS levels- my twitter handle is @gracekirb so if you had any q's about uni, languages or english lit I'd be happy to help :)
Keep doing what you're doing! -Grace x
hi, im currently doing year 13 German and found year 12 very hard in the first term but the Vocab step up really pays off especially in the final term- you can see your ability basically rising by the week! And if you work really hard at this stage it definitely pays off in the run up to exams! Good luck for all your A levels :)
I would love to watch a q&a on six form and what it's like
Can you please do a video on how you revise and revision tips
i'm year 13.. i don't want to sugar coat it and say it gets easier because it genuinely doesn't, but with hard work and using your time wisely you'll get there!
Just keep working hard and you will do great.🙈
"I've been called a 'geek' and 'nerd' by my teachers, so that was nice" 😂😂😂
I am british but I live in spain and I am fluent in spanish. I take english in a spanish school so what you are doing in spanish, I do in english. As i am fluent in english as well, when speaking a different language it doesnt really matter about the grammar so dont worry about getting the grammar correct.
