I think Gatsby's capacity for wonder is what sets him apart from the other characters in the novel. Although he might not be 'great' in the sense of his morality, compared to Myrtle or Tom whose lives are formed around wealth, for him money is just a way of closing the gap between himself and Daisy.

Also usually yellow/ gold stand for wealth but in gatsby they are very much linked to the opposite. The yellow car that brings death, the yellow eyes (framed in yellow glasses) that watch over so many bad things that keep happening.

Thanks for the video. Can you make another one on test papers on the Great Gatsby and how to answer them and perhaps, through some model answers. I’m doing edexcel and got 18 and 20 out of 30. 18 is a B and 20+ is an A. I want to secure the higher marks but I am not sure how exactly, especially with us moving ahead so fast in lessons.

nothing for mine is open book even (OCR too) and I have five texts plus an extract question but the extract can be from any gothic text ever…at all so theres no preparing for it except trying to learn about the genre as a whole
and i need critics for all- the fun of A level lit

go over specific quotes for characters, how those quotes and characters link with themes of the book, have at least 3 quotes memorized for each character (that is if you're doing the new gcse) and make sure you can talk about those quotes, how they link with the book, the character etc. ALWAYS link back to the question do it like every 3 seconds lol. And don't stress! It doesn't matter if you don't get the quote 100% right, as long as you get the key words right, you'll be fine! Also, again if you're doing the new gcse, exam boards aren't going to throw something absurd at you, the exam boards are pretty skeptical as we're the guinea pigs, so don't stress babe! you got this! x
